It's a good move regardless who does it. The only issue I would have if Idzik was to be the one to do it is would be what he would he do with the draft pick.
Honestly he is in the group below JJ and needs to realize that. But you cant loose him for nothing and you need to keep your home grown players 10 to 12 million is fair for him. trading your players you drafted is a mistake. you cant be cheap all the time because then how will you attract the other players you need Bradway I need to ask are you being realistic because 7-9 was out of the question the minute the gm failed to adequately address the corner situation. I am going to enjoy the new group coming in so they dont make teh same mistakes as before and hopefully you might learn something in meantime
So I'm new to the board but long time Jets fan and wanted to chime in w/ my two cents only working off of what I've read/heard/seen from the jets: 1) Seems as though Casserly/Wolf are coming on board and I'm very happy we'll have experienced and well respected football people advising Woody...this is a great first step in recognizing the problem isn't just hiring a new GM or Coach...it's about trying to learn what a successful football organization needs to look at when hiring people who will be in charge of making football decisions and leading football operations 2) Despite Woody's shortcomings, I think he has the makings of being a great owner (i.e. he's not pretending to be a football guy and trying to make football decisions ala Dan Synder, and he's not a media hound either)...just that he doesn't seem to know how to build a solid foundation for his football structure. I'm from MA originally, and Kraft used to be a media hound of sorts and used to pretend to be a football guy until Parcells came in and set him straight...and living in D.C. I've seen the Synder act up close and it's not pretty...I think w/ Woody, once we get this going in the right direction we'll be lucky to have him...assuming we can get it going in the right direction, and Casserly/Wolf's hiring has me optimistic 3) The rumors of GM/Coaching names are going to start swirling for sure as they already have...but think we need to remember, we'll be hearing a lot of names trickling out from different sources...doesn't mean anyone in particular is a frontrunner...and although I think the GM will be hired quickly (I think that's key to get a start on the HC hiring, draft prep, roster decision making etc...) any names we're hearing right now are probably just due diligence to starting building the list of prospective candidates 4) I have to admit, not knowing anything about Idzik when he came on, I liked what seemed to be a professional/organized approach to team building (i.e. through the draft) and a clamping down on Ryan's bravado...but good god was i wrong there! From a distance (who can ever know what's really going on inside the walls) the guy really doesn't seem like he's got a clue. At first i thought he was using the season as a staging for 2015 while firing Ryan and using the cash for his new coach...but then looking at a totality of the issues (using all 12 draft picks w/out successfully moving around in the draft, missing on FA whom (if you believe what you read) he wanted to sign and couldn't close on, ignoring blatant wholes on the roster) and then the press conference where he actually seemed like he was trying to win this year...and if he was actually trying to win this year and this was the product, 2 years is enough of that.... 5) I actually think Ryan is a good coach (not great) and w/ a talented team he can obviously deliver...but think in this day and age, you need to be a well rounded coach to be successful...I think he obviously controlled the team from the side of the ball he knew (the D) which left us always taking D players in the 1st round of the draft and more or less watching the O fall apart in front of our eyes...I think you can win as a specialist in this league as a HC, but not from the D side of the ball...I think an O specialist can really impact a team because of the way the league is now officiated and regulated. But think the best coaches are delegate who have a O/D coordinator to leave the HC to concentrate on the big picture...Ryan, while a great D mind, never seemed to embrace that overall concept and always reverted to over managing on the D and under managing on the O...Time to go for Rex...albeit i won't be surprised if he wins somewhere else if he already has elite O talent in place w/ whatever team hires him... 6) I'd be lying if i said i knew who would be the best HC for the team, but the most important hire will be the GM...has to be a football guy/great talent evaluator! You can supplement a GM, who's already a good talent evaluator, w/ other cap guys or money management guys...but the converse isn't true...The good talent evaluator will also know who other good evaluators are to bring them in to build out the rest of the college/pro scouting staff...the "business first" GM, won't necessarily have that knowledge and is left to totally rely on people to judge talent w/out knowing if his people know what they're doing or not...bad way to go, and think we're seeing it play out in front of us right now...And we need to get this guy hired soon
It's not a matter of being cheap; it's cap management. At some point Richardson is going demand a big contract. Do you want to tie a significant chunk of your cap on 2 interior defensive linemen? If we did not have Richardson, then signing Wilkerson would be a no brainer.
lol I thought people were defending the Idzik hoarding cap space to give us room for Mo...now we don't have room for him? Figures
Mora? The one at UCLA. Who just got a contract extension a year ago. Maybe Mark Helfrich will leave Oregon for Jacksonville next.
Your arguing against equally bad rosters. Do you not understand that? There is a reason we have not been to the playoffs in four years, it's because we haven't had a good roster for the past four years. There is a reason for that. All those stats don't mean a thing to me, I look at the coaching and how the lack of talent on this team plays despite the deficiencies that this team has had for years now. Especially at the QB position. The roster quality absolutely matters. Just look at your own stats you put up in this thread, the years we went deep in the playoffs in comparison to the past four years. Every team has bad games, every single one. You think the Jets should be the exception? I mean just look at some of the games played today. The Patriots are being slated as the Superbowl representative this year for the AFC, how many points did they lose by to the Bills today? Your argument doesn't make a lick of sense to me. Sorry.
if either stay I would agree they should start with a new gm and let him determine the staff. that needs to be made clear the GM has final say
Idzik is fuking horrible just look at his, drafts he deserves to be fired for that alone.....I could have made better picks
Honestly, I don't have a problem with this scenario. I like Rex and as the Steve Beurlein pointed out today, he gave the Jets an identity they hadn't had since Parcells. I think wherever he goes, he'll be successful. He just needs a better support staff. Having said that, I expect him to be fired. I'm hoping Idzik is showed the door as well as Terry Bradway and many of his scouts.
Big picture. He hit on some players he missed on some; some it's too early to tell. 2 years.. not a lot of time to judge a GM
Jim Mora Jr.? I'd certainly entertain that scenario....at least to bring him in and see what he's got in the thank. With 4 or 5 yrs NFL experience, he has what Rex did not...HC experience. His record was near .500 with an NFCCG to his credit too. People forget, Coaches grow too in addition to players..only their shelf life is longer. The Genius in NE was sub .500 in his first 5 years at CLE...how'd that work out for them? Mora probably has a bunch of contacts in the NFL circles as a prior NFL coach too. Not a slam dunk, but on equal footing to any 'hot' present day NFL coordinator IMO.
Can't wait to hear you bitches moan about wanting an offensive minded HC when the likes of the Raiders and Jags run up 30-40 points on us in a 'close game'. The only saving grace is our defense is set (with guys coming back) and even Donald Duck could coach the Jets to a top 10 defense next season. But that momentum will run out pretty quick with guys like MoWilk, Snacks, Richardson, and others jumping ship to follow Rex as soon as they possibly can.
sadly there was a reason for that "With the top seed in the AFC playoffs already clinched, the Patriots used quarterback Tom Brady for only the first half and held out tight end Rob Gronkowski and five other starters."
Bill lucked into a HOF QB - that is what makes him a genius - not the experience he gained with the Browns.
Harvin, decker, ivory, Pryor, Williams, amaro, Richardson Geno, milliner...? Got out of cap hell. I see steps
