Sad to say, but I really believe if Rex had a competent QB from day one, he be a beloved coach in spite of his flaws. Sadly, it's too late for the Jets, time for a FULL house cleaning top to bottom.
Maybe Idzik can get a job as an intern in the player personnel dept. of some team. He could use all the experience he can get.
Let's just keep this thread alive for the next GM who will have his neck on the chopping block in two years, too. Just change the name but everything else stays. This is the kind of organization and fans we have.
Yes Idzik has done wonders since arriving. I hope he can draft us another Geno Smith and miss on almost every single draft pick.
Every single pick. That's news to me. I guess Sheldon Richardson is a bum. An 8-8 record in his first year after a disastrous 2012 when the previous GM was fired. As for Geno. I guess to you he's washed up after only two seasons. Funny he didn't look too bad last Sunday against Belichick.
Did you not see the almost? Or just trying to push your agenda. Glad to know going (17-27 210 Yards 1 TD 1 INT) is a selling point for Geno now. Let's not forget he was only pressured on 7 of 29 dropbacks or costing us the game by not knowing how to throw the ball away.
Although Idzik had his share of blunders, picking Smith in the second round was not one of them at the time. It's not like we had outstanding QB play in the years before Smith got here. Something had to be done at the QB position, and Smith was the top ranked QB in the draft at the time of the pick. The CB position is one that gets the most hate as an Idzik miss, but what were the options? There were maybe 3 people here that wanted Cro back, a few who wanted Revis back on some fairy-tale cheap deal that was not gonna happen. We had Milliner who looked promising and a few others who should have been able to fill in as CB, along with the draft. We were in pretty decent shape in April. The draft was in May, well after most FA's were already signed, and well before our guys went down. It sucks yes, but that's the way it played out. I think he did all he could after that to bring in players to try out. I've done a 180 on Idzik since April when he didn't bring Cro back. He has done a fair job as GM, but he also missed on a lot. He did save a ton of money to acquire new talent this coming year and the next few. He missed on 1 WR, and still to be determined on another. We are a much better team now than we have been in the last few years, despite what our record is. If Milliner comes back healthy and we add another CB, find even an average QB, we are a decent team. We have a lot of youth and a core of good players locked up for a few years. It's not as bleak as it seems right now, one 3-13 year is not really any worse than another 8-8, 6-10 season. Lose by a little or lose by a lot, it's still just one season.
According to Mel Kiper he graded Idzik a B in 2013 and said that Geno was the best Qb in the draft and the Jets made a good selection choosing him at 39. Cimini whose been after Idzik gave him a good grade for selecting Pryor at no. 1 in 2014. Here are some of the key players Idzik drafted: Milliner, Winters, Aboushi, Bohanon, Pryor, Amaro, McDougle, Dozier, Reilly, Saunders. If you want to you can give him an F. Or you can wait and see. And btw a good number of the 12 he selected in 2014 were higher round supplemental picks. It is not expected that most of these guys make an NFL roster. But most of them have either with us or another team (active roster, practice squad, IR). So you can give the guy standard time in evaluating drafts or join the crowd shouting "Off with their heads!"
