Yes it is past time for a change but please don't descend to the level of Gary Myers and the other writers in the New York press. Coaches all do their best but sometimes it doesn't work.

rex was exactly what we needed in 2009 and will be a great fit for a few teams next year, atlanta being the best fit. unfortunately, his system is not for a young team, either his system is too complicated or he does not know how or doesn't have the patience to bring along the younger players to keep the window open longer.
thanks for the 2 great years rex.

I love Rex Ryan. But I think he failed to grow enough as a head coach. He was still doing the defensive calls. The offense sucked. The special teams sucked. The defense underachieved: virtually no turnovers. In all, I just felt throughout this season that the Jets weren't going to win. He kept saying how shocked he was at the results, but I wasn't.

Moreover, I felt he was coaching scared. He seemed desperate. There were times where his defensive calls--all out blitzes when coverage would have been the better call--lost games for the Jets. In all, he had ZERO control over the offense. And his defense under-performed. And when fans (and probably players too) expect to lose, it's time to hit the reset button.

that said, I would LOVE for Idzik to go with him. He's done nothing I think is admirable or noteworthy in a good way. And I don't see how anyone else could possibly be worse.

I'm honestly so dissapointed in Rex regardless if this is a glorifed expansion team or not.Yea Idzik deserves most of the blame but I really belived in Rex and can't belive he hasn't been able to get us back to the playoffs .He lost something a quality he once had I just can't put my finger on it

In 1994 after firing Pete Carroll, Leon Hess made Rich Kotite Coach and de facto GM. So yes, it can always be worse. Be very careful when making that statement and then finding out the hard way.

Well, yes, I see your point. That said, I'm willing to take my chances that there are few credible choices that would botch an offseason as Idzik has this last one.

He's just not a head coach. He needs to go off and be the loud mouth, sloppy, overrated defensive coordinator he truly is.

Your first line says it all-Rex is not a head coach. He is a glorified cheerleader. The players worship him because he instills no discipline, he befriends every player, none are scared of him, and it shows on the field. When Bill Parcells took over the Patriots he announced at the initial press conference that "if the players don't do everything my way, they won't be here very long." THAT is the kind of NOTICE a real coach should serve on his players, not Rex's "we all love each other" philosophy.

we are 2 years behind because our idiot owner didnt see the writing on the wall 2 years ago when he got rid of the gm. absolutely the dumbest thing he could have ever done. it was pretty obvious to me that it would not work out and it surely hasnt. and yes idzik is an asshole for undermining rex, but that is the position that the moron owner put him in.

there is a reason you dont bring in a new gm with an old coach. it doesnt work.

I've been gone for awhile, I come back and you are still spewing this stuff. Do you ever look at reality? Who cares if he took us further than anyone else? It was a long time ago, and your constant acceptance of, and even STRIVING for, mediocrity is mindboggling to me.

Again, Junc - you need to stop striving for mediocrity and start expecting something from this. Arguing for a guy whose recent record is 17-33 because it's 'better' than 4-28 makes absolutely no sense and is, in fact, kind of embarrassing.

How can you call him a "complete" failure? He took a Cleveland team to the playoffs after it was nowhere for so long, and coached New England for, what, a year before Brady took over? LOL Yet you want to keep giving Ryan passes at the end of his 6th year just for not being as bad as Kotite?

    Green glasses today:

I think they would be a solid team if they can keep it together and add a few pieces on offense and the secondary next season. They looked good today

    smh, who are these Jets?

If Rex and Idzik go, just make sure Bradway goes too, as we need someone who can find this team some players in the draft.

Know why the Jets won today? For the first time in 6 years, when Ryan had nothing to play for, not even his job, the Jets ran an actual modern NFL offense, taking the shackles off Smith and throwing the ball down field. Where has this been? It took six years for Ryan to figure out that a passing offense is a good thing? That is why he will be fired. Because for six seasons the Jets offense resembled the 1934 Chicago Bears. The past two seasons have been painful to watch until today. Who were the stars today? Decker and Smith. The "lack of personnel" did not hurt the Jets today. The CB s did not hurt the Jets. The Jets won in a very Un-Ryan way, by passing for almost 400 yards. That is why Ryan needs to go. He doesn't understand offense in today's NFL. It took a meaningless game for him to let the offense play offense. Bye Rex.
