Would be great to get Cooper though, and every-time he catches the ball for a big gain or play the Meadowlands yells "COOOOOOOOOOOOP"
This years draft is even deeper at WR than last years. WR like RB is one of the positions you don't need to be and shouldn't be drafting in the top 5. A solid WR can be had in rounds 2 or 3 ( I would be happy with any of Green- Beckham, Justin Hardy, Josh Harper just to name a few). I would much rather draft Scherff and begin making sure our Oline is where it needs to be.
Man. I was hoping we would suck more to get a better pick. But I saw the Knicks play the Blazers. We are pretty good.
While it was a costly win then aren't all wins costly? It does not look as near as bad for us as our win last year against the Dolphins that dropped us from 11th to 18th or from Odell Beckham to Pryor. But sometimes you win getting dropped. We got Wilkerson at 30. With a higher draft position we would have likely done much worse. We could win again by missing out on Winston and get a blue chipper like Cooper who may end up much being better in the long run.
Because if Idzik is fired its an act of desperation. And the number one point of frustration is doing something noteworthy with the Qb position to curtail all of the criticism. A trade up might not be worth the price: possibly two number ones plus more. Paying way over market value. I wouldn't do it and don't think Idzik would either. Because he's fiscally conservative. I can also see them overpaying for a cornerback. Again to address criticism not necessarily to improve the team.
I disagree. In fact, I think retaining Idzik as a GM on the hot seat will actually create more desperation on his part than for a new rookie GM and Head coach. In fact, if Idzik is kept and believes he needs instant success to secure a longterm job, he may trade up for his Qb. It'll go against his conservatism but he may feel it necessary to keep his job a year from now. I don't think we'll trade up either way, but I don't think your scenario makes very much sense.
Then again if Izzy is on the hot seat then drafting a rookie QB may not be the way to get off it. A rookie QB can take 2-3-4 years to get it together. Idzik may be more inclined to get a semi-decent FA QB and surround him with the best o-line and weapons possible, something like the Chiefs tried. This ain't a receipt for winning a SB but it is almost guaranteed to garner more than 3 wins a season, which is exactly what Idzik needs to hold on to his job.
So far Idzik has been conservative and he's been bashed for it. He did move fast to obtain Harvin. And was even criticized for that, too. I don't think Idzik will act out of desperation if he stays.
I agree... If a new GM looks at the main criticism of Idzik which is the recent two drafts, he's more likely to be conservative and go with a surefire prospect like Amari Cooper or Ronnie Stanley. Geno Smith was a second round pick and still caused big part of Idzik's downfall. A new GM who takes a top 5 pick on these quarterbacks will be wedded to them.
So we're desperate if Idzik stays and desperate if Idzik is fired. Got it. I don't see us getting on the high draft pick QB again. Going to sign a FA QB and draft BPA. Gregory looks like the OLB we've been missing for years.
We need to go oline. Brick is getting older and is on the verge of retirement. We need to draft and develop his replacement.
This is exactly why this whole thing with the GM is retarded. There is a reason why everyone (EVERYONE) gives GMs 5 years or so unless they just do something completely deal-breaking. You need time to put your plan in motion, and to build a team, you need some stability. If a GM doesn't have that, which of course now WILL be the case, whether Idzik stays or is replaced, they are not going to make decisions for the long term benefit of the team, but ones to cover their ass.
