Well we will probably lose Mariota to the Titans or the Bucs..... um, who are in Florida, CENSORED CENSORED Really CENSORED. I better quit this post before I say something about that state.
I agree with the premise of your post but Jacksonville is not NY. People want Idzik out already so imagine trying to sell the idea of being patient with a rebuild?
Cut him take the hit if you can't move him. the guy is averaging more then a turn over a game. That is a waste of a qb spot because at that percentage he is not good enough protecting the ball to be a back up
I'm not interested in having the Jets future so up in the air at this point. There are too many variables involved and too much money being thrown around on the professional sports scene right now. If the LA Clippers were worth $2B what are the NY Jets worth on the open market? Think about it.
If Mariota or Winston are available when our time to pick is here, we have to take a chance on either one of them...... But I'd like Hoyer or Ryan Mallet to be a stopgap until The rookie qb shows he is ready to roll as a starter..... No more just giving a rookie the job..... It's time they earned it.....
Another name is brock oisweiler. Don't know much about him other than being in the 2012 draft and being coached by gase and playing behind peyton. Big body guy.
Just heard Ira Kaufman (TB Bucs Beat Reporter) on Chris Russo's show. He said the Bucs are leaning towards Winston at this point. They believe Derrick Brooks can take him under his wing and get him on the right path. Long way til the draft, but interesting.....
thats not good for us. winston slipping to the 3,4,5, is more likely than mariotta. if winston goes 1 mariotta goes 2.
They could trade for Cutler and draft Mariota. It's something I'd be on board with if we were in their position.
Whisenhut just went 2-14, and their GM may be on the hot seat after next season. They can't afford to stash a rookie Quarterback , when they have much greater needs. And I'm not sure they're ready to give up on Mettenberger.
Lots can happen in the run-up to the draft. Bridgewater was the consensus top QB early-on and slipped after his pro day. Aaron Rodgers was supposed to go number 1 overall (and in hindsight should have). Even Geno was supposed to go in round 1.
Winston is a dangerous pick, surprised people like that. Winston in New York sounds like gasoline in fire. Too much uncertainty with this kid. Too many opportunities to be like Johnny football in a big apple.
The Bears surrounded Cutler with plenty of talent, and he hasn't produced to expectations, however he does have 28 TD's to 18 INT's to go along with 3,640 passing yards in 14 games so he hasn't been terrible. The fact that the Bears give up the most points per game, the 3rd most yards per game and are 31st in the league against the pass are much more telling reasons about why they're struggling this year. It's really not Jay Cutler who has been the problem. Not to mention that even with all of these problems they still have 2 more wins than the Jets!
If Idzik is the one drafting, I would deal all of our picks in a heartbeat for the right to draft Marcus Mariota. We had 12 picks last year and that produced 0 quality players, including a 4th round pick that got cut before week 4 and 1st and 2nd round picks that suck at football. Is there a Jet fan alive who wouldn't trade all 12 of our crappy picks from last year for Russell Wilson? If you believe that Mariota is as good or better than Wilson, that he is a franchise QB, you do what it takes --within reason -- to get it done. If you don't have a QB in this league, you have nothing. If you have a QB, you have a chance, no matter how bad everything else around him is.
