http://nbcbayarea.csnbayarea.com/49...y-after-season?_osource=SocialFlowFB_BAYBrand On CBS yesterday they said that if they wanted to trade him the team trading for him would have to follow the Rooney rule and interview a minority canidate. There were also a couple other things that would draw out the trade and they said it wouldnt be possible for it to happen immediately. So based on the report above it sounds like they are just firing him and not even bothering with the trade process.
If true, Woody should be in San Fran the second he gets fired. But we all know that's not Woody's MO.
by the time Woody hem and haws about Rex & Idzik and then fires them... And then decides he needs a hiring committee of suits.. and then takes time assembling his public relations committee... who then recommends Harbaugh by analyzing the business standpoint of consumer perception and marketing opportunities... Harbaugh will be holding spring practices already as HC at Michigan
Harbaugh is unlikely to come to the Jets. I believe the only way it happens is if the Jets decide to make a historic contract offer, making Harbaugh the highest compensated HC in NFL history and likely with the most guarantees on the way in the door. Michigan or Oakland are my best guesses right now. That's home x2 for Harbaugh. Oakland is the low risk destination. Low expectations there and nowhere to go but up. Michigan is the high risk destination because he will be expected to win a National Championship within a few years and will have to get the Wolverines into the top 10 next year at some point. The Jets are like a burning fire against that backdrop and I think they will have to pay extremely well for him to even seriously entertain their offer.
Woody should make him the highest paid coach in NFL history. He is by far the best available option if he is fired.
I'm not sure a guy coming here just for a huge contract is such a good idea. Money is a great motivator but a lousy way to tie somebody down after they've collected it.
I think he's probably pretty motivated to win a superbowl seeing he hasn't won one. Besides, I don't see how you get around paying the guy. What do you want to tell him he needs to prove himself?
This is true. I'm not saying that you don't ever get your guy when you pay him a huge amount to get him. Parcells was a record-breaking contract at the time and he remained focused right up until Vinny's achilles trashed the Jets Super Bowl chances. Then he was just an overseer from that point on until he left at the end of 2000. To be fair he was hired by Leon Hess to win a Super Bowl in 2 years or less and when Hess passed away so did Parcells primary motivation for coming to the Jets at all.
I remember when it came out we either interviewed or wanted to interview Harbaugh after we fired Mangini and the board was up in arms w/ Tannenbaum for even thinking about it. How times change. This is the only guy I want outside of Rex, hopefully we have a shot.
I am sure Woody will be ready to pay but I am sure there are more desirable destinations for Harbaugh. I hope we get him though. Draft Mariota or Winston and bring in Harbaugh. Let the fun times begin.
8 million a year for 4 years is his offer from Michigan. Even though he played at Michigan and was an incredible college coach, I think it's too soon in his career to go back to college. 3/4 years he went to the NFC Title Games to go along with a SB appearance, he would've won if they called holding that last play. Harbaugh has some unfinished business in the NFL. 10 million a year is worth it. Harbaugh might be only option to get us on the fast track to success,we need him no matter the cost. It's not like it goes against the cap, it's Woody's job to overspend what the other owners are offering and bring him in here if he wants to be looked at as a good owner.
Harbaugh is an asshole -- The Niners know it and are tired of his shit. STAY AWAY WITH A TEN FOOT POLE!
