The church owned the entire property which Jewish owned Freddy's Fashion Mart leased, the black owned record store subleased from Freddy so when the church raised Freddy's rent he raised the record stores rent. The record store did not want to pay the increased rent and that was why they were being evicted. That was when Sharpton and Powell got involved.
