This Sunday will most likely be the last time Rex faces NE as our HC. Let's take a look back at his history against them.

    2009:

Home: coming off the season opening domination in Huston the Stadium was loud all game long and our D shut down the Pats O. Rex asked for crowd noise during the week and he got it, one of the best atmospheres I have ever seen for a Jet homes game- especially a game in September. The last time we beat a Brady led Pats team was 2006, the last time we beat a Brady led Pats team at home was NEVER. This was our first home win against the Brady Pats and our first home win over NE since a Monday Nighter in 2000 where we had a great late comeback.

at NE: this game would be our 6th loss in 7 games but we would only lose one more before the AFC Championship Game after this one. they overwhelmed us and our rookie QB was awful.

    2010:
    Home:
This time we were coming off a disappointing opener vs. Baltimore the week before and that poor play continued early into this game as we fell behind 14-7 at the half as Revis was burned by Moss for a TD late and came up injured on the play but we dominated the 2nd half, outscoring NE 21-0 and showing signs of what we could become that year.

    at NE(reg season):
much hyped showdown btw two 9-2 teams on Monday Night Football. It was over before halftime.

    http://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/201012060nwe.htm

at NE(divisional round): in the biggest game ever played btw the 2 teams the Jets weren't given a chance based on the humiliation on the same field about 6 weeks earlier. The first drive for NE looked like a continuation as they got it inside their 20 and were marching downfield at will but one play changed everything.

the only negative was he was so slow he was caught from behind on what should have been a TD and after a bad run and a fumble we lost yardage on O and Folk would miss a chip shot FG but defensively we controlled the game after that play.

NE would got down the field again and a big would be TD that was dropped by Alge Crumpler led to a 3-0 deficit but another win for the D.

The big play on O was a 3rd and 6 near midfield trailing 3-0 in the 2nd where Sanchez bought time, redirected Braylon and threw a strike down the sideline.

LT would catch the TD to end this drive and we were up 7-3 and would never trail again.

The next big play was the 4th down fake punt, the refs missed a bad hold on Eric Smith but luckily he was able to fight through and get the stop.

after a nice LT run it we had a 3rd and 5 and Mark would hit BRaylon for the 1st down and Braylon would do the rest.

The Jets went in up 14-3 and after NE cut it to 14-11 w/ a TD and 2 pt conversion the next big play happened.

Jerricho Cotchery would take a short pass and turn it into a huge gain setting up the TD to put us up 2 scores again w/ a 21-11 lead.

the NE O would work the clock for some reason and after they cut it to 21-14 late we recoevered an OS kick and Shonn Greene finished it off.

I was going to post the rest of the games but I want to pretend 2011-2014 never happened.

Yeah, great games and great wins. Throw in the Stephen Hill drop game, Geno's embarrassment in 2013 and this year's game and Rex could have easily split with Belichick.

got blown out at NE 2009 and 2010, had the blowout buttfumble game in 2012 but other than that had a chance in every other game we played them.

Great writeup! To be fair not all of 2011-2014 was bad. The past 3 games were all extremely close and well fought.

You mean 2009. We won the 2008 game with Mr. Favre at the helm.

I was thinking about this recently: The last three losses in NE (The Stephen Hill drop game, the Geno 4th quarter meltdown game, and the blocked fg game) are probably the three most crushing regular season losses in the Rex Ryan era.

I think the most crushing was the 2011 Giant game. we win and we are a playoff team again most likely, the way we lost w/ what he wrote in his book then seeing NYG win it all. that was the worst loss.

yeah, good point. I hate thinking about that game. What pisses me off is that Giants team wasn't really any better than either our 2009 or 2010 teams.

they were not, their '07/'11 teams were very similar to our '09/'10 teams but they caught/made some breaks in title games and we didn't.

    Nice Thread Junc.

Deliver us one last gift Rex, beat the Pats this weekend.

Edit: Belichick is such a bitch so is Brady. Watch the end of the game in the 2009 video. Brady runs off the field like a whiney coward and Belichick - Sanchez handshake is awkward as heck.

Hate to bring Mark Sanchez into this thread, but watching the videos junc posted, it's ridiculous how little credit he gets from Jets fans. He made important plays to help the Jets get key victories, including those Patriots games. I hate the misconception that he was just around for the ride. He contributed. Maybe not to the degree that an Aaron Rodgers or Peyton Manning does, but he was still important.

So many bad moves after the 2010 season. I don't know what Tanny and Rex were thinking. They should have brought that team back, hell or high water. They made just a bunch of terrible moves that off season that we are still paying for. The worst two being- naming Holmes Captain and Promoting Wayne Hunter to starting RT.

Wayne Hunter effectively killed Mark Sanchez career/development

we had cap issues, we went for it and just fell short.

Naming Holmes captain didn't kill us and neither did Wayne. Remember Woody wanted to retire and we nearly made the SB w/ Hunter starting. they thought he was an ascending player- they were wrong. Made mane moves that backfired.

Holmes is not a Captain, that was a bad character choice and a pretty obvious bad choice. Cotchery is/was a Captain. Holmes is/was a flashy player, not a character guy.

We had some great running backs. Jones, Washington, Tomlinson, Greene, even continuing into Ivory, Powell and Johnson. Going back to 1969 the Jets won the Super Bowl because of running attack not Namath. The Jets only ever needed a game manager at Quarterback. We should go back to our roots and that is running the football.

I know Edwards got injured anyway so the point is moot. I really think he was coming into his own at the close of 2010 season though. His hands got much better, he wasn't dropping the football anymore. He was so physical on the field. Great blocker down field. I remember watching him on SNY boxing in the off season after 2009. It seemed like he really liked being on the Jets. He really seemed to like his teammates. He wanted to win here and he wore the uniform pretty well. The td catch before half of the Pats playoff game was all Braylon. If only they could have kept a better eye on him when he was off the field. That receiving corps really needed to be brought back together, they were good for each other as a unit. I think Sanchez was comfortable with that crew Cotchery, Holmes & Edwards. Keller too. T Rich was great for the huddle, just a very good, versatile team.

Losing Woody was just awful. Hunter killed Sanchez. watching Sanchez in 2011 is painful stuff. He got killed in Oakland, Baltimore and New England. He never came back from that. Faneca was a bad loss for the Oline too. The Jets really need to put in some work this off season on the line. It's just imperative at this point. There is no pocket to speak of. It's a collapsing wall that only holds up for 3 seconds. No quarterback can throw out of that mess. It's mind boggling that our offense now is so pass happy. Geno development has effectively stopped bc of that oline and MM as well.

    2010 awful moves:
    Front loaded contract to Holmes
    Naming Holmes Captain
    Wayne Hunter front loaded contract
    Naming Wayne Hunter starting RT
    letting Cotchery slip away
    letting Edwards slip away
    Mark Brunell only "legitimate" backup
    Plaxico Burress acquisition
Greene was a solid back too, but he was not a feature back. With a complement he was a nice 2, to a 1-2 punch.

Holmes was very much a leader on that 2010 team.

I agree about Cotch and that move hurt more than others. they should have told him it's a business and not released him.

we never had any great RBs, we had good ones though but we swapped Jones for LT and they were both old. Greene not developing into an every down back hurt us.

    I hated losing Braylon.

Woody was a big loss too. I actually sat next to him at the Dallas opener in 2011 and you could tell how he wished he was playing.

The Dallas home opener (9/11 anniversary game) is my 2nd all time favorite Jets game. The first being my first game against Carolina in '98. The Dallas home opener was magical if you were there. I really enjoyed that game.
