This thread could get a little rowdy, but please try to behave well and represent your smartphone ownership group well. That's right, we're talking about smartphones. For some inexplicable reason, people desperately care about what kind of smartphones other people use, even though it doesn't affect them any more than what brand of car they drive. Maybe it's because unlike cars, most people can afford to buy absolutely any smartphone they want - you can be a restaurant server and have the same smartphone as a movie star. Anyway, select your favorite smart phone manufacturer. It does not necessarily have to be the phone you own now, it can be a phone you regret switching from, or a phone that you wish you had. On the other hand, if you don't use a smartphone, please select the luddite (anti-technology) choice at the bottom. (Unless it you don't own a smartphone purely for economic reasons, in which case pick the company that makes the phone that you wish you had.) We handled the Abortion Debate Club Thread with very little acrimony, so I do believe this board can keep this discussion from degenerating. This is not a political/religion issue, so it's fair game. (I am endeavoring to stay away from political/religious issues, despite that one abortion thread.)
You left the top phone off your list. And BlackBerry? I am not even close to being up on all the newest trends but isn't BlackBerry kind of like last decade.
Not a fan of apple products and my Samsung is better than its predecessors (HTC and Blackberry), so that's where my vote goes.
I had a Motorola Droid, and now have the Samsung S-4. The S-4 is much better, larger, crisper images and it has a TV remote for when the kids lose...or the dog eats ours. I didn't care for the blockyness of the IPhone or the hoops you have to jump through to add music.
This thread is not about the top phone. This thread is about the top smartphone. Nokia is popular for non-smartphones, but we're only talking about smartphones here. Apple, Samsung, Windows, and Blackberry combine for probably +90% of the market share in the US, so I did not leave any major players out. Blackberry was the dominant smartphone maker 10 years ago, and is now largely irrelevant, yes. But some large corporations still provide Blackberries to their employees, because 10 years ago they chose Blackberry when it was the only option. They could have a long term deal to only buy Blackberries, or their company software might be somehow compatible with Blackberry and annoying to reconfigure for another platform. Or they might not like employees using company smartphones for private stuff, and therefore just have the employees carry two smartphones. There are still a fair number of people who use Blackberries in the business world. A lot of older businesspeople prefer blackberries because that was their first smartphone, and they are too afraid of learning how to use another interface. Or they don't like the idea of a touch screen keyboard, and prefer the tactile keyboard of a Blackberry. To me, that's an interesting concept and that's why Blackberry was on the list- if someone prefers the weird outdated Canadian smartphone I'd like to hear why because that'll make for an interesting discussion. The ones that you should have been weird about me including were the Chinese and Russian smartphones, which are not really sold in the US (at least not in most stores where you'd buy smartphones.)
My Samsung has blown away the iPhone numerous times. In fact, my entire family and girlfriends family is all switching to Android now. They are fed up with Apple and want no part of it anymore.
Android is all I've ever used. I had the Razor phone when that was big, and have fiddled around on a blackberry. I have the 4G LTE now. I didn't know it when i bought it, but it's the commercial where people roll down a hill in a big bubble ball at night, and people take pictures. I guess it's a popular phone, idk. I hate advertising, don't pay attention. But that's what I picked out somehow lol. I dig it. Works great, like all other phones now, too many new features that hardly make sense, but the battery is good (enough), and games are fun, texting options rule. That's all i need.
I only like my apple products jailbroken. Without the jailbreak i'd hate my phone & ipad. The regular ios system is just trash. Unlock it though and iphones can do anythingggggg 1000000% customizable to exactly how you want it. Plus free shit... everybody love free shit!
Figured I would use this thread for my question on tablets. My wife plays some facebook games, I know android OS tablets can not get up to date flash player, which most FB games use. I realize I could get archived flash downloads on adobe's site but would rather not. Question is, tablets that run windows 8.1, is there any issue with flash player? Can it be downloaded? All my wife would be doing on the tablet is her FB games while she is sitting in her car between shifts as a crossing guard. Any answers are appreciated.
I know that Facebook games should run on iPads, but I don't know anything about Windows or Android tablets. This doesn't answer your question but it's all I got.
Thanks, being it would only be used for those games I didn't want to lay out too much $ but after reading your post I took a look and the IPad mini is only $219. Not sure why but I thought they were more, must have been looking at the IPad Air before.
You're welcome! The mini is pretty affordable, but the iPad Airs (which are now the main regular iPads) are usually +$500, which is overkill for mobile gaming, like you said. One woman I dated loved that her iPad mini could fit in her purse, and also in her white doctor's coat pocket- so there's a big convenience factor. It'd be easy for your wife to keep the iPad Mini in the glove compartment with a car charger, and carry it in her purse if she wanted. If she's within WiFi range when she'll be using it then she can get the regular cheap version- otherwise you'd need an expensive data plan and all that BS. For the Facebook games, all of the popular ones have their own separate apps, so you just download them and link your Facebook account. Glad that this thread was actually helpful to someone!
Yes, figuring the mini would work for her and she uses the school WiFi since she works the corner right in front of the school. Thanks again.
Best corner in the county. She carries a Tec-9 and if anyone messes with her she puts a cap in their ass.
