About damn time I say...More young people have stopped going to theaters now that everything has become available.

They are piloting these programs in January in Boston and Denver and will take it from there. AMC Theaters is quite big in the New York tri-state area so this could be a major win for us guys who like to go see movies all the time.

The pilot partnership with AMC will allow MoviePass members an option, for $45 a month, to see films in any format, including Imax and 3-D.

In January, AMC theaters in Boston and Denver will begin working in concert with MoviePass to offer monthly subscription packages for $45 and $35. More cities will be added later. “The data will determine how fast we go,” Ms. Sternberg said. “Sometimes you first expand the test, sometimes you accelerate the deployment.”

Under the MoviePass business model, theaters get paid full price for every admission. To make money, the service depends on traditional subscription-service economics: More people pay than go.

Maybe they could just lower the cost on a per ticket basis and people would actually go to the movies.

Flat screen TV's, HD, in home projectors, have hurt the "theater experience." If a family of 4 can go to a theater for $40, plus pay for overpriced soda and candy, why not stay home, buy the Blu Ray for $25, have some friends over, get 2 pizzas for another $15 and make a night of it.

TLDR: the movies are too expensive.

This is interesting. Considering movie tickets are around 8-11 dollars range, interesting. One movie a week gets you back to around that normal price of 11 bucks per primetime viewing. Anytime you can go more that 4 times a month you probably end up "ahead".

Where are these movie tickets $8-$11?

In NY they are $14.50 - $14.75 for an adult unless we go for a matinee ($9)

Ohhhh good call. I've been using discounted movie tickets already, I'm not sure actually how much Boston is. The discounted ticket is around 8-11, can't remember.

You can get discounted tickets from CostCo, about $7 each at AMC, even in NYC. For the rural states it's like a 50¢ discount, but in NYC its a 50% discount. Easier to just keep a stack of discount tickets and just see whatever you want for a fair and reasonable cost.

This is cool, but even for a big movie fan like myself, not sure it is worth it. There are not enough good movies to justify paying that much a month.

Lol yep and like $16 or $18 for 3d movies, what a joke, 3D is no different than 2d from a cost standpoint for the theater, other than those 10 cent glasses they hand out.
