Rex would fit right into the Giants, that team looks ready to blossom on offense if they can fix the line. Defensively they are bad, but Rex could change that, plus they had one of the worst defenses last time they won the Super Bowl so even an average defense would get them by.
If anything, the team will be taking HIM to the super bowl. This wanna be HC will be a DC on his next team where he belongs.
No one has done LESS with as many first round picks on defense as Rex Ryan. Six consecutive number 1 picks on defense and the jets defense still stinks. Did you see the game Coples had against the Titans playing his natural position of DE? Makes you wonder why Rex has stubbornly been wasting him at LB the last 2 years. You can't convince me that Rex wasn't calling the shots drafting all those guys on defense and that is why we were playing the likes of retreads Greg Salas and since released David Nelson at WR a lot this year.
I love how fans overrate Ryan so much. You honestly think he will just come right in and just make the defense for any team he joins instantly better? Have you not seen the the less then stellar defenses he has had since Revis left? His defenses are nothing more then average without elite CBs to play his style of defense. Any team who picks him up is in for a rude awakening if they are expecting a dramatic turn around just by bringing this glorified cheerleader on.
Isn't that what we were supposed to see with the Jets though? We haven't seen any dedication to the running game since TJ was here. Ivory could easily be our GnP back and he's lucky to see 10-15 carries a game most of the time, even when he's playing great. I think Rex's GnP philosophy is a big myth - he seems to have no sway over the offensive side of the ball whatsoever. There have been countless games that I feel may have turned out in the Jets favor had they just actually played with the GnP style that Rex was supposedly going to bring. It's baffling to me. He may be welcomed in CHI due to his father's legacy but I don't think there's any reason to think that hiring him would have any bearing on the offensive strategy at all.
Wherever her lands, I wish Rex all the best. Things didn't work out as planned in NJ but I'll always be a fan of the guy.
I predicted that 2 weeks ago, when Rex said that if he got fired he wants to go to TV. He wan't saying TV. He was saying he wants to stay in NY. It was ...simply... a power play telling Woody...yeah, keep Idzik, I'll stay here, and make you look like a fool. Idzik, by ditching Nacho, and Cro, on our way to 3-13, is playing checkers. Rex, clearly plays chess. Nacho, and Cro are going to the playoffs. The Jests suck at QB and CB...nuff said.
The Vagiants acquire talent. Then make it work. The Jests acquire talent...then defeat it. The only thing keeping Rex from being the Vagiants DC if Woody is dumb enuff to fire him, is Coughlins fear of his job. Best outcome for the Jets, is Idzik gets fired, Rex helps pick the next GM. The GM in this situation needs to be more actuary, less boss....We need a GM, that has an offensive background, to build that side of the ball balanced against Rex's constant defensive needs (ahem...Kyle Wilson at 22)... But Rex has taken this team where no one else has, since Weeb, so everyone saying well, lets part ways..Just like they did with nacho, can SMMFD. The Vagiants and Stillers win, because they are PATIENT. We lose because we are stupid. Ironically enough, the only time we were patient, was with Schittenheimer. Ruined Penny,A year with a legend, and Sanchez. Psst. St.Louis...Is right behind the Jets in total offense....LMFAO.
Considering the nest egg of Woody's money that he has, Rex will start working Improvs and comedy clubs to hone his craft. He will then take over the 12:30 am late night slot currently held by Seth Myers on NBC.
Rex Ryan is better than at least half of the head coaches in the NFL, and some lucky franchise will find that out. Just like Coughlin escaping the Jags and winning super bowls with the Giants, or Shanahan escaping the Raiders and winning super bowls with the Broncos. (Pete Carroll, Dick Vermeil, and Bill Belichick are some other examples that come to mind) History teaches that losing franchises fire coaches who then go on to win super bowls with their next team. Rex is just the latest example of this trend.
Jury is still out on Tannehill. He could be very good or he could be mediocre, it's not clear which yet.
If Rex was 10 years younger he'd get another real shot somewhere. That would be the Belichik story. He's 50-odd already and unless he gets a real shot somewhere in 2015 he's probably done head coaching. His best shot at a HC gig if he doesn't get a job somewhere would be to take a DC job and wait to to be the heir apparent there. That or get an interim job if his HC got fired in a bad season. I think he's going to find that he likes the schedule of a network broadcaster. It'll let him be at home more often and at more reasonable hours. It'll pay as well as coaching does, maybe better in a few years if he's really good at it. It'll let him say all the outrageous things he wants too and as long as he's right more often than not and doesn't get too controversial he'll be golden. He should be working with a straight man who laughs easily.
You under-rate Rex's defenses. He really does do more with less than just about anybody else. The problem last year was he had rookie toast and an injury on the other side. The problem this year was that it took him too long to adjust to the fact that the Jets needed to play a Cover 2. He never fully adjusted to that fact. The one huge shortcoming in Rex's defensive scheme is that he is over dependent on really good CB's. There are a lot of guys who have coached defense in the NFL over the years who have gotten by with average CB's and even made them look good in the process. Rex is about his attacking scheme most of the time and if the CB's aren't productive the defense suffers.
No, the one huge shortcoming is Rex's defensive scheme is that your team also has to play offense too. But when a coach like Ryan spends his last 6 number one picks on defense, and two of the top three picks the last four years on defense, you end up with retreads like willie colon, greg salas, david nelson,, and nobodies like jeff cumberland and brian winters, etc. on offense and your teams stinks. NOBODY has ever done less with so many high picks on defense than rex ryan.
He already won a Superbowl as a coordinator and has a 4-2 playoff record as a head coach. He has nothing left to prove as a coordinator its never gonna happen
