Alright Gentlemen we're back in the war room. Just how bad is Bryce Petty and is he a reasonable second round option, considering we pick Amari Cooper?
I have a feeling Winston will be a jet. Actually, if we stay in the 6th spot, can we draft Vernon Gholston again??
God this sucks. At 6, I dont think Mariota(obviously), Winston or Cooper will be there. I actually hope we trade up
Way things are going we could be in contention for him next year. I really want Connor Cook as our QB.
sounds exciting…i said that last year about mariota and we can't get him…this stupid team would do the same for cook
I read somewhere that teams were doing their homework on him as if he'd be in the draft, and expect him to be a top 15 pick if he entered the draft. He's considered the best pocket passer of the prospective bunch.
Him and Winston are right there - though I think Winston is more refined at this stage. Cook's an effortless thrower though unlike Winston. Just the way Cook throws the football, it's completely natural. I encourage you to watch his games vs Ohio State on Draftbreakdown. The ball comes out quick, it comes out smooth. Winston has that awkward somewhat slow release.
I am a big fan of Winston the prospect. I like him more than Mariota and am crossing my fingers that the Jets have a chance to draft him, but you are right he does have a strange and awkward release. I haven't watched much of Cook but I will now.
Winston is a better pro-prospect than Mariota just as you said. Mariota's got that good guy thing going for him and that's the reason why people like him more. Winston has complete command of the offense. Winston has that aura around him that even when the chips are down, he will find a way to get this team back in the game. I really like that about him. I think the release issue can get better def with good coaching - if the character issues don't become a concern post-draft - he's going to make a franchise very happy. I think you have to monitor him like a Dez Bryant and give him stipulations in his contract as well. If he's there on the clock - I think the Jets have to take Winston. Here's an interesting scouting report btw on Mariota v Winston. Winston could start from day 1 where-as Mariota, I don't think so. http://tam.scout.com/story/1491535-breaking-down-winston-and-mariota I can't stress enough the importance of having a pocket passer.
I would be overjoyed if we land winston but if the draft order is set and tampa and tenn are picking before us or jax/oakland (trade partners) I say somehow drop the seed that we will guarantee cook a selection in the top 10. I watched a lot of tape on him during the weekend and he seems like he would be a great prospect. He has great command of the offense and the arm to effortlessly make any throw. he also does not play in a gimmick offense and is a big kid, with the fire/moxy of a brady/farve type which I find is very important in a QB, other then flacco i cant think of many QBs winning a super bowl that were semi-emotinless/robotic when they play (flacco did have ray lewis though)
Neither of these guys are the answer. You go with the smart pick in Cooper Round 1, you pray that a guy like Sam Bradford is available to serve as an interim QB. Maybe pick up Connor Cook in Round 2 or even trade up into late round 1 and hope to develop him into the franchise QB. Best pocket passer in the draft IMO.
Maybe somebody can work on Winston's release between the end of the season and the draft? You know coach him to be a better football player as opposed to just a winning QB? Worked for Tim Tebow.
My thoughts exactly. Out of Cooper, Winston and Mariota I see Amari as an immediate contributor. If Cooper is there, it's an easy pick.
This time last year a lot were projecting Manziel #1 to Houston. I think Mariota has less questions, but there's still almost 6 months left until the draft.
