bad pass w/ some bad luck on the tip. it happens, can the D get a stop? hold them to a FG? they got the bal back in a 1 possessions game, get a big 1st down and the TE fumbles but I am sure that was Mark's fault too.
The other teams seem to get big stops, holds, TO's a lot when Sanchez is on the field. Does that make their defenses the right kind of defenses or does it make Sanchez a mediocre QB? The flip side of "the Eagles defense couldn't hold a lead" is that the offense had 3 TO's in the 2nd half and two of them were on the QB. How many games should a team win when it is down 21-10 at half time and then the QB throws two picks in the 2nd half? Who was responsible for the Eagles go-ahead TD in the 2nd half? The defense who forced a TO on the Cowboys 18 yard line or the QB who handed the ball off 3 times to get the Eagles a lead thereafter?
Oh, the defense was terrible. No question. But, Sanchez has always been too mistake prone. And that pick was a killer. Is it the only reason they lost? Of course not. Far from it. Mark's untimely turnovers are still the biggest flaw in his game and they still hold him back from being the player he could otherwise be. It's been pointed out a million different times in these circular debates, but the more Mark is forced to throw (i.e. the higher his pass attempts are), the more turnovers he commits, the worse his individual statistics are, and not surprisingly, the worse his teams tend to do. Until that changes, Mark isn't going to be the player you make him out to be, particularly not in a league that gets more pass happy each and every year.
the last INT was in garbage time. they had 2 TOs, one was his fault for a poor throw, the other his TEs fault. they got the lead, it was a new game and the D allowed Dallas to march right down the field to take the lead back. The D allowed 38 points. STs and the O put them in a few bad spots but why couldn't they hold Dallas to a FG once in a while? the INT they got it at the Philly 42, that means they can't hold them to a FG? The D was why they lost, Mark and the O put up 27 pts w/ little run game. they got the lead back after trailing 21-0, the D allowed Dallas to go right down the field and score- that was the biggest possession of the game.
I'll also reiterate that Sanchez has done a solid job stepping in for Foles. Anyone claiming that he's been a disaster or has "sucked," simply isn't being fair. He's been ok, and to me, he's pretty much done all you can expect from a backup. I've been very pleased with how he has played. But, that's just it, he's a good backup, not necessarily a good long-term starter, and certainly not an upper-echelon quarterback.
it was a bad throw and a bad TO but why couldn't the pick up the O and hold them to 3? Mark wasn't great but he was good and a performance like that will win many games in this league.
he has been better than Foles this year, not better than Foles 2013. Foles 2013 had a better OL, better run game and Desean Jackson.
But again, you approach each and every assessment of Sanchez from the perspective that the rest of the team is inherently charged with cleaning up his mistakes and never from the equally valid perspective that he, being the starting quarterback and most influential player on the team, should sometimes clean up the rest of the team's mistakes. To me, a good starting quarterback isn't someone who consistently makes the mistakes that Mark tends to make. He shows flashes of being very competent, but until his consistency improves, I just don't think he is the long-term answer for a championship caliber team, week in and week out.
He's been pretty similar to Foles, perhaps a bit better. And Foles wasn't very good before he got hurt this year, so that's not exactly saying much.
He was awful when they were down and when they had a chance, Mark did his typical let me step back like 10 or 15 yards and take a sack. No wonder he's only won 1 game when his team is down 10 pts. His awareness is AWFUL.
mistakes happen, good teams win games. sometimes the D or STs makes a mistake and the O needs to pick them up, sometimes it's the D that needs to pick up the O. The O picked up the D/STs to get them back in the game, the D then blew it then after a mistake by Mark they folded again.
they were down 21-0, led 24-21- that's awful? he fumbled that ball trailing by 1 score moving the ball late? he gave up 38 pts?
Sure. Or, you could say that the offense came out stagnant in the first half and then blew their best chance once they got back in the game. And the defense obviously had to get some stops to allow them to get back in the game. It all depends on what your perspective is.
Yeah, but of course, part of them not having the ball is going three and out and turning it over. And you're right, their running game was bad.
they didn't turn it over until late. the first few possessions they couldn't run, set up 3rd and longs and had some penalties. that is one of the dangers of that O playing so fast.
Sanchez critics: That interception was really bad and it really changed the game. Sanchez fans: If the defense would have done x, y, and z, the pick wouldn't have mattered. Sanchez critics: Sanchez also could have done x, y, and z, but he didn't because he's mediocre. Sanchez fans: Sanchez is a winner. We have proven you can win with him. Sanchez critics: Sanchez is a below average quarterback. The teams that have won with him generally played around him. His passing production has been anywhere from below average to poor. Sanchez fans: The Jets ruined Sanchez and their fans ran him out of town. Sanchez critics: Sanchez got 4 years as the unquestioned, tenured starter. He had plenty of time to prove himself. Sanchez fans: Anyone who knows anything in the NFL knows Sanchez is good. That's why Philly signed him. Sanchez critics: Philly signed him to be a back-up. No one thinks Sanchez is any good. Rinse and repeat.
It's also one of the dangers in having to rely so heavily on a running game. Mark isn't a guy who is scaring anyone with his arm.
they came back from 21-0 down and took the lead through the air. don't let the TDs fool you, they were set up by the pass game and actually Maclin did score on the long pass but they rule him down at the 1).
