You don't need a source to put 2 +2 together ,Jets will Fire Rex Ryan and likely Idzik,Harbaughs apparently out in San Fran,Jets need to galvanize the fan base and do something big to rally the hopes of Jet fans across the board,So obviously if he's available we will attempt to sign him
No we won't because I'm sure the 9ers have already talk to teams about Harbaugh. You have to realize the 9ers will move fast also so they can find there next HC.
There will be multiple teams interested in Harbaugh, like you said. Since he is considered a sure-thing to get another HC job immediately and multiple teams would be very interested in him, it looks like he is a prime candidate for trading. In that situation the 49ers' GM would start letting word leak out amongst the GMs that they are open to trading him. From there, the interested teams' GMs start asking what they'd want for him, and/or making tentative offers. What makes this difficult for the Jets is that John Idzik is also on the hot seat and will probably be fired. Normally you would hire the GM first, then let him pick his new HC. But by the time you fire Idzik, Harbaugh will already be traded away to the Raiders or the Falcons or whoever. It would be too late. So let's say you have Idzik make the trade for Harbaugh, and then fire Idzik. Now you're re-creating the problem the Jets had when they fired Tanny but not Rex. They will have Harbaugh, and the GM candidates will be told "Harbaugh is your HC. He hated his last GM, good luck." Will the good GM candidates be interested, knowing that they have to keep Harbaugh, who is supposedly hard to get along with? What we could do is simply put Harbaugh in charge of the Jets completely. That's what he wants anyway, and if he is in charge, the GM will basically just be his assistant GM, helping him evaluate talent and leaving the major decisions up to Harbaugh. So in that scenario, you basically let Harbaugh interview and select his own GM. You'd have to trust Harbaugh to turn things around and if it did not work out, you'd have to start all over again with a new GM and HC in a few years. On the other hand, Harbaugh is a great coach, is great at coaching up QBs, and he is probably just the guy you want if you are drafting an early first round QB, or trying to get the most out of a veteran journeyman "bridge" QB. With the GM basically owing his job to Harbaugh, there would be no clashes, and you'd be trusting someone with a proven track record. The Jets do not have the talent that the 49ers have, but I have to say that I'd trust Harbaugh with player evaluation a lot more than I'd trust Idzik. We don't know if Woody would be down with turning the fate of the Jets over to one man. But it would be widely hailed as a good move since Harbaugh has excellent credentials, and it would give season ticket holders and fans the big splash move they "need" to feel like the Jets have a good chance of getting back on track. It's also a surefire way to get a good head coach, and would bring a sense of optimism back to the Jets. On the other hand, he might be too gruff with the media and they may start stirring up drama. The locker room culture would change from a family atmosphere to more of a militaristic atmosphere, and that could hurt team morale unless the Jets immediately showed signs of significant improvement. We don't know what the other teams would be willing to give up for Harbaugh. The Raiders don't need a QB, so they could conceivably do something like swap 1st round picks with the 49ers and maybe throw in a mid round pick in exchange for Harbaugh. With the Jets desperately needing a new QB, I'm not sure if we would be able to make that kind of a move, although I think it'd be reasonable. We won't get Mariota because we won't get the first overall pick, and he's the only "must have" QB. Winston has regressed a bit and has too many / too severe off the field / character issues for my taste. I would trust Harbaugh to get decent play out of a free agent QB while maybe coaching up a 2nd or 3rd round QB for a year so he can take over in 2016.
Since Harbaugh want more say so in players maybe Woody fire Idzik and offers JH the HC and GM job. Plus I don't see the Raiders giving up there top 5 pick. The most the 9ers get is maybe a 3rd round pick. It like a player u know about being cut why give up anything for him when he gone anyway.
That's more or less what I meant- put Harbaugh in charge of the front office, but he will still need a new front office staff. He will still need a guy to head up the front office, overseeing operations and making sure Harbaugh has all the info and that his directions are being carried out. Basically a GM with no power- you'd still need someone who can do that. Which is not too hard to find, but you would want experienced personnel guys to help evaluate talent.
I'm having such a hard time reading this post, I'm going to re-type it for everybody's sake. *ahem* Since Harbaugh wants more say with the roster, maybe Woody will fire Idzik, and offer Harbaugh both the GM, and Head Coach job. Also, I can't see the Raiders giving up their likely top 5 pick. The most I can see the 49ers getting in return, is a 3rd round pick. It's like when you know a player is going to get cut. Why would you give up anything extra for him? Anyway, whew. That was rough. In response, I can see the 49ers easily getting a 2nd round pick. Remember what the Jets got for Belicheat? He wasn't by any means thought of as the GOAT reputation that he has now either. So just imagine with a proven HC like Harbaugh? IMO, bidding starts in the lower 2nd round. I personally don't want to give up a 2nd round pick, but it would probably be worth it.
looking at the state of the Niners this season are people still 100% sure they want to hand the reins to Harbaugh?
Can you find me another coach who is over 70% on his career? Also, that division is brutal, and they've been without plenty of very valuable starters, and they're still over .500 at least. So yes.
