I'm going to be pretty surprised if both Mariotta and Winston go in the top 5 picks or so. Might happen but we saw what happened last year with all the surefire top 10 QB's. Got to draft evaluation time and it turned out they weren't hot sauce after all. Bortles was just a bad pick by Jacksonville.
I admit I haven't watched the Jags whatsoever this year, but can you really say this definitively after his rookie year? Also I agree Qbs do tend to fall (Bridgewater, Geno, etc.) but if a Qb falls it is much more likely to be Winston than Mariota IMO.
At this point, there is NO WAY Melvin Gordon falls out of the 1st round. I know RB's don't get taken in the 1st round, but Gordon is a special talent. He's the next Jamaal Charles. I wish we had another mid-late 1st round pick, so we could select him to replace CJ2k.
Yeah I wouldn't be shocked to see Gordon fall into Round 2 The best backs in the league right now weren't even 1st Round picks Le'Veon Bell and DeMarco Murray were 2nd and 3rd rounders Shady McCoy 2nd Rounder I mean you got AP and Lynch who were top 10 picks but even looking at the next best few backs they all got picked outside the 1st Round Mariota/Gordon would be a great duo to build around with Ivory, Decker, Harvin, Kerley, Powell, Amaro and a hopefully improved O-Line with Colon being gone and a new coaching staff
I'd be ecstatic if we got Gordon in the 2nd round to add to Mariota/Jameis/Cooper in the 1st round (it would redeem Idzik in my eyes), but I can't just see Gordon falling out of the 1st round.
My mind wouldn't even be able to comprehend getting Mariota and Melvin Gordon in the same draft. That would immediately be followed by some heavy bourbon consumption.
Better shot about getting Gurley in say round 4(If Harvin isn't kept) unless a team bites on him early than Gordon. I'd love it though I mean. Bortles has a miserable OLine to operate under, it been the Jags previous 1st round pick in Luke Joeckel that looks like a bad pick. Its not easy to operate behind such a miserable offensive line. Joeckel looks severely overmatched at LT despite going 2nd overall and wasn't much better if at all at RT.
Bortles is still pretty bad - he's the Blaine Gabbert of this past draft. He came out of no-where to be a top 5 pick, in reality he should have been a 2nd rounder.
Based off what? He's worked with a bunch of rookie WRs, no real good TE, and plays behind a miserable O-Line. Way too soon to say he's Gabbert. Bortles was very good in UCF though I agree he got picked where he did because Manziel/Bridgewater both ducked a lot of optional pre-draft stuff like throwing at the combine. He's got some game though. I still like Bridgewater more(Always have) but Bortles is better than Gabbert. Bigger body, better arm, and better composure.
He makes awful throws all of the time. I don't think the rookie WR thing is an excuse. Lee, Allen Robinson, Allen Hurns those guys were making plays for Bortles. Marcedes Lewis is a good TE. Bortles was good in UCF, but he's not as talented as Manziel, Bridgewater and Carr. The comparison from Gabbert is somewhat valid because he skyrocketed out of no-where and it was because Mariota wanted to go back to school. I think the Jags saw Bortles and thought of him as a poor Andrew Luck which he absolutely isn't. I don't think he's all that special. I could be wrong.
I agree I have no idea why I said Manziel he's the worst. Another QB that can't operate in the pocket
We don't have the talent or the depth to trade up, fix our oline there are many different ways we can fix this
