Wow, that is a bad man. Not sure I would pick an OT top 5, but he would be great for the Jets. He's not making it to the 2nd round.
I know they don't usually call holding if your hands stay inside your shoulders and I think it's even taught like that, but this guy grabs a hold almost every time. This is holding every time, no? Discrete, but still holding.
This guy is the meanest fucking offensive lineman in the draft. Brute strength, nasty attitude you want in an offensive lineman. You could argue he's the most versatile.
I like the way that he doesn't stop until his opponent hits the dirt - and then he usually drops his 320lbs+ on top of them for good measure. He clearly wanted to intimidate his opponent from the first play on, for the whole of the game.
i'm very impressed. would love an immediate upgrade at RT, which he has the attributes for, while also addressing LT for the future. if we don't land a QB, taking an OT like this would be very high on my list.
love that he can play a number of positions on the line. reminds me a little of Zach Martin in that regard, who i was on this forum pining for last draft. unfortunately he went to Dallas, shortly before our pick.
I think it's a blessing we are going to miss out on Mariota and Winston, we've got some options to create stability on this team and he could start that.
Im usually against taking an OT in the 1st round but Ive soften on that stance. If we cant get Cooper Id sign up for this guy in an instant.
I would have no issue taking an OT in the top 5. QB's get the glamor but the OLine makes or breaks an offense. You can't pass if the O-line can't protect and you can't run (unless your Barry Sanders) if the O-line can't create space.
He's an interesting prospect but it seems like he projects more to an offensive guard in the pros which doesn't justify a top 6 pick realistically. My problem with him in watching these highlights and any tape on him is that when he sets up in a pass blocking set his feet are constantly moving and chopping like he's waiting to make a tackle and then lunges at the defender to go for the big pancake. That's one thing I see that doesn't translate well at all to the pros. He seems better fit at engaging right away which offensive guards do. He doesn't have a low stance in pass protection either.
Love the way he plays, would be the pick for me if Cooper is gone. A lot of people on this board are against drafting OL high, but it is a huge need for us. Signing FA OL hasn't worked for us. Brick and Mangold were both first round picks, worked out great.
I agree. If Cooper is off the board you have to take the best available offensive lineman since there's a load of top end talent at tackle this year. Last time we tool Brick and Mangold we went to the playoffs the next year because we kept our quarterback upright. The biggest setback for a young quarterback is getting hit a ton not even necessarily sacked just hit. It makes them get rid of the ball quicker than they want to at all times whether there's pressure or not.
We need players like this on our o-line. Remember going to back to back afc champ games with sanchez and our o-line murdering everyone. God that would be great to have again.
You like Scherff more than Stanley and Peat? Scherff is a great player, probably the most solid OL prospect in this draft - but I don't know if he has the upside to be a future franchise LT, which is IMO what you aim for with the first OL pick in the draft. That said I love Scherff and think he'll be a great pro player at G or RT, and we do really need the OL help. Just not sure you can take him before a potential LT prospect like Stanley.
