First off, no need to commend me on my excellent grammar, I already know.

For everyone out there who thinks Idzik's plan sucks... give us an alternative. A realistic alternative. This isn't so much an answer to the other thread (just mocking it), it's more of a discussion about what you would have done if you were the GM and what you HONESTLY think the outcome would have been:

Would our current situation be ANY better if:

    -We drafted Bruce Ellington?
    -We drafted Kelvin Benjamin?
    -We drafted Brandin Cooks?
-We overpaid DRC for the next 5 years?
-We spent $12 mil on Revis for a year?
-We let Vick start from day one?

These are all things I've heard from the masses that I'd classify as a complaint. There's nothing worse than hearing complaints but no solutions. So what is your solution? What was the PERFECT offseason?

Do I get the benefit of hindsight?

Everyone is using hindsight to base their opinions.

It's really all we have, no one could have predicted this.

    1. Kept Mark Sanchez as a starter for 1 last yr (2013)
    2. Not draft Geno Smith (2013)
    3. Begin to rebuild offensive line via draft (2013)
    4. Acquire weapons via draft (2013)
    5. Go 8-8 in 2013
    6. Draft Derek Carr / Teddy Bridgewater; cut Mark Sanchez (2014)
    7. Sign Decker (2014), do the same transactions you did this yr (just to prove a point)
    8. Future is brighter

None of this is hindsight either, this is what some fans wanted here on this board especially myself.

It's easy to say Idzik should've done this or Idzik should've done that with the benefit of hindsight. Once you saw what worked and what didn't work.

    Anyway

I didn't really have a problem with most of the moves Idzik made. I thought he should've re-signed Cromartie instead of signing Patterson. But outside of that I didn't really dislike his moves.

With the benefit of hindsight we can cherry pick the draft and say we should've picked this guy instead. Or say not to sign this guy once we saw that the move failed.

Really puzzling how we still find a way to suck in a loaded draft this past year

Bingo. It's a head scratch as to how it is even possible.

Without doing substantial research- I'd venture to say it's possible that all the other 31 teams got at least 1 high impact starter already out of that draft. Idzik took 12 chances and got nothing. missing on 12 picks would be bad in any year but especially a year where everyone else is finding gold

+1. How can every team that needs a threat at WR draft somebody who looks like they are going to be good for 10 years, but we (who _clearly_ need one) can't?

OTOH, Great Genius Master Darth Hoodie also whiffed on this WR-rich draft. So maybe everybody else is wrong and we are right

Especially in a year where there were franchise QBs to be had and possibly the best WR class ever.

How the FUCK does that happen?

Bridgewater, Carr, and Garopollo were potential franchise QB's. Bridgewater was my favorite qb from that draft. Imo the rest were no better than Geno.

If those guys are franchise QBs then this draft has just as many.

So far Bridgewater and Carr has looked promising. I'm not sold on Mariota or Winston. Just like I wasn't sold on Bortles or Manziel last year.

Stokes, I think you're jumping the gun WAY too early on these players. There's not a single player that you're talking about that has proven to me they will be franchise QBs. I think a few have potential, but after 1 season, I don't think there's anyone close to a guarantee here. And I still don't see it with the WRs outside of Beckham. Evans has shown major flashes. Watkins has done some good things. A few others have been fairly solid. But after one year, I don't see a whole lot that jumps off the page as other-worldly necessarily. Lots of potential, and we missed on a good amount of it, but I'm not buying the hype yet.

I agree that he totally botched the latest draft, but it's all hindsight. Botching a draft isn't nearly as bad as blowing your load on overrated FAs. He hasn't done that and we have plenty of money to spare now. He's set us up very well for the future in terms of money, so I'm curious to see what he's got in mind. Of course, we might never see that.

I don't think Bridgewater or Carr have shown anything warranting a "franchise QB" label. Not even close.

Everything posted below can be verified by looking at my old posts:

First of all I would have used more of our cap space to fix glaring needs before the draft.

If would not have let our little brother's the Giants steal DRC or Geoff Schwartz out from under us.

I would have tried to get Cromartie and Sanchez to take pay cuts instead of cutting them loose but would not have kept them under their old contracts under any circumstances.

While I would have tried to trade out (especially with Manziel and Bridgewater as trade bait). Here is how I would have used our first eight picks without trades:

    1. Johnny Football QB
    2. Jerremaih Attchou OLB
    3. Dante Moncrief WR
    4a. Andre Williams RB
4b. Shaq Evans WR (this pick I did like a lot)
    4c. David Yankee OG
    5. Zach Mettenberger QB
    6a. Laurent Duvernay-Tardif OT

Right but they've shown potential and have looked like they're headed in the right direction. But at this point it's still early.

I can't get past the fact that you wanted to spend that kind of money on DRC, who has proven yet again that he's the definition of mediocre.

Well in that case, Zach Mettenberger could be a franchise QB.
