Let's assume for a moment that Idzik and Ryan are fired...hell the whole damn front office... Picture that in your mind.

I was reading MMQB the other day and in there they were discussing the possibility of the Jets bringing in, paying whatever it takes, Harbaugh.

Here's the twist...the writer said...bring in Harbaugh and let HIM hire everyone...the GM, President...etc...let him control the whole enchilada...

I think this would be an incredibly intriguing idea but not sure if it would be good or bad. What are your thoughts on this? Does Harbaugh instill enough confidence in people to think he could run the whole show AND coach? I don't know...

Personally the young Pollian kid would be my pick for GM and then go from there...he can always grab his dad's "ear" if he needed to and I respect the hell out of his dad.

Just an interesting take/thought process on the eventual openings and thought it would be a good topic for thought and debate.

Harbaugh hasn't done anything in his entire career to justify giving him complete control of everything. So no.

I believe he is the best coach in the game, do what you have to do to get him. we have BP full control when he was a mediocre GM type and it turned around our franchise. if Rex is gone I want Harbaugh at any cost.

Are you talking about Brian Polian? The HC of the Univ. of Nevada?

Yes, I have enough confidence in Harbaugh to do both jobs IF he wanted it. I also would have no problem with him hiring the next GM either.

Honestly, do you trust Woody to make the right hire?

Of course I am with this idea. Not only would it be a HUGE upgrade at coach, but it could definitely intrigue Harbaugh to pick the Jets instead of Oakland. Give him a lot of money and tell him he can hire anyone of his liking. Complete control. Something a coach dies for.

Believe me, at this point in time, I trust Harbaugh ten times more than I trust Woody. Harbaugh would at least know exactly what he's looking for to build the team he wants. Woody is just guessing at resumes

I think I may be confusing Polian's at this point...let me do more research...

Interesting...that's two for allowing Harbaugh to handle the whole thing... Interesting...I'm on the fence. Can't wait to see some of the debate this is going to spawn!

And this is the argument that begins to sway me...at the very least Harbaugh knows what he wants/needs and to simply let him do it.

    why not?

he tried like crazy to get BP to come back when Groh quit, then made a good hire w/ Bradway/Herm, made a good hire w/ Tannenbaum and w/ Rex. Mangini and Idzik not so good but his track record overall is good.

I don't trust him at all. Sorry, but that's just a personal thing. His hire of Rex was great, and I love Rex, but he hired a defensive coach who never paid much attention to offense. It took these past two years for me to see that.

You say he hired Tanny, but when was the last time we had a good QB? Tanny drafted Sanchez in round 1 and how did that turn out? Since then, we've had Geno Smith, Michael Vick, Matt Simms, etc. We haven't had a solid QB in years. That falls big time on the GM and scouting department.

When was the last time we drafted a weapon at WR? Don't say Ivory, because that was a trade from New Orleans. Our scouting department, management, and coaching staff has been atrocious at drafting and developing players. Defensively? We've made some great picks. But what was the last offensive pick that made you all giddy inside?

We need a change and Woody needs to step back and let a guy like Harbaugh have his hand at it. If it fails, then you look at plan C. I trust a coach who has an amazing record, has proven to develop QBs, and has a great eye for talent. Say what you will, but Harbaugh definitely had a hand in drafting all the guys they have. Let Harbaugh mold the team in his eyes and hire the people that fit his plan. The status quo here needs to change.

I would be weary of trading away too much for Harbaugh, and also weary of making him the GM. How do you know if he's any good as either? 49ers had a lot of talent already there when he came to them and a high draft pick. They already had their defense mostly, with Bowman, Willis, the linemen, and used their high pick (7th overall) on Aldon Smith. They also had a former 1st overall pick Alex Smith, Frank Gore, Crabtree, Vernon Davis, Iupati, on offense. So he came in, drafted Aldon Smith and Kaepernick, played Alex Smith more as a game manager, and then eventually replaced him with Kaepernick. At first, Kaepernick's running ability and unusual style caught other teams by surprise, and the 49ers went all the way to the Superbowl before losing. But since then, they've been getting worse every year, as Kaepernick doesn't surprise anyone anymore.

The bottom line is, there is not enough body of work there with Harbaugh to know that he is great as a coach or as a GM. Anyone can do well on a loaded team for a couple of years. And 49ers usually draft well, so you can't know how much of that credit goes to him or the FO.

turned out pretty damn good had a chance at 2 SBs. what happened since Tannenbaum left was the new GM came in and foolishly drafted Geno while getting rid of Mark.

why would I say Ivory when he isn't a WR? Kerley is the last decent WR we drafted. we have struggled there.

What's the worst that can happen? It won't work? Like mostly everything else the Jets have tried in my lifetime.

Last time they gave complete control to a football guy it changed the franchise. Who knows if it will work but it can't be a worse chance than hiring another first time HC and GM.

Ivory is an offensive weapon. I'm not talking about just receivers. I'm talking about offensive playmakers drafted that are worth more than a piece of shit?

You can preach all you want about the AFC Championship games but this teams lack of offense is one of the worst things I have ever seen. For years it's been this way.

Edit: I wrote weapon at WR in the first post but I meant on offense in general. My bad

I know we all hate the Patriots but you can't say Harbaugh is better than Bellicheat.

Revisionist history. Mark Sanchez was due $11.5M this year if we kept him. Mark Sanchez is not worth $11.5M.

1 Superbowl appearance, 2 NFC Championship games and an overall record of 43-17-1 as the coach of SF. Maybe the sample size is too small but those numbers are impressive you have to admit.

    you wrote WR though.

we have good enough offensive weapons to win with now. most important we need to upgrade OL and QB.

I can. BB was a complete failure w/o Tom Brady, Harbaugh made title games/SBs w/ Alex Smith and Colin Kaepernick.

I edited my post. I apologized, I didn't realize I wrote WR. I meant weapons in general.

And the cost of what? Because we have weapons now, that we traded for and signed in the offseason, Woody should get a pass for the lack of draft picks our front office had? It was a last ditch effort to sign guys like Harvin and Decker when we missed on countless players in the draft. We have problems now because for years we fucked up completely.

Offensive line needs upgrading, receivers need upgrading, and QB needs upgrading. That's the entire offense! You realize we haven't had a competent offense in over three years!! And that's putting it nicely. That all falls on the front office. We need a change.

Yeah, all we need now is stuff that we could have had years ago.

I don't think it was a last ditch effort. even w/o Harvin we had enough weapons around the QB to compete. good RBs, solid TEs, not a bad WR corps. I like that he didn't just spend money to spend it.

Woody Johnson went through countless resumes and countless interviews of guys to hire for GM. He did his due diligence. In all of that, we came out with John Idzik.

I'm not talking about us fans who claim to be arm chair GMs. I'm talking about a billion dollar owner of an NFL franchise.

We all had our thoughts on Idzik when he got here. I, for one, liked the hire because or his ties to Seattle, but again, I'm a fan who knows dog shit compared to a 15 year owner.

With all of his experience in this league and all of his hiring companies he hired to help him find a guy, again, we came out with John Idzik.

Now you want to trust Woody to do this again? With all the money and power he has he couldn't figure out that Idzik had no personnel experience whatsoever and he was purely a numbers guy? Who couldn't figure that out? Half of the board on here screamed from the mountain tops that this guy didn't know shit for being a GM and the only people who defended the hire were the other side of the fan base and the owner. Our owner is a fuckin moron and if he wants to keep owning this team, hand the keys over to a guy like Harbaugh and let him run his team. Gotta love the Kraft way

Agree with all that. I want HCs to have full control. Let the GM handle the contracts and stuff. Let the HC pick the players. Let the HC decide who starts in games. I want a coach with balls. I don't want some geek who starts who the GM says to start.
