+1. And there are at least 5-6 WRs in this draft who could be nearly as good, as good or better than Amari. Don't get me wrong, I love the player but there are other options out there that COULD be just as good and there are no options out there this year or next better than MM or Winston. Amari may be the best WR in this class--but you can't tell me for certain that White or Coates or Parker or Strong or Greene or Beckham can't be just as good or better. The WR position is quickly being filled up with REALLY REALLY good players. Last draft was incredible and I see more of that this year as college offenses become more prolific. _
Yes, Parker and Strong could be better than Cooper. I don't see Greene as being better but I still would like to see the Jets get him. I can certainly approve of passing on a WR in round 1 for the above reasons. I have written the same type of stuff about QBs and linemen numerous times here through the years.
I don't think that's a likely landing spot for him. Allen Robinson was impressive before going down to injury. Marquise Lee is very talented and stepping up a bit of late. They really like Allen Hurns and you have to remember Blackmon should be back next year. We all know just how good he can be.
I have to say that Parker and Strong have made some spectacular catches this yr and they both have great size. While Cooper is 6-1, he's easily faster - and far more dangerous with the ball in his hands. WE have to get a receiver in this draft within the first 2 picks IMO.
Again, I'm not saying any of them WILL be better than Cooper, but it wouldn't shock me if one or more of them aren't. Last year I think everyone was pretty convinced that Watson was the best WR. But holy crap how good is Evans and ODBjr and Matthews and Bryant and Brown and Cooks. And a bunch of other guys not far behind. _
2014 NFL draft might go down as the best WR class at this rate, just sucks we had 12 picks and couldn't even land one of those WR's, lol.
Yup. But I think it's signaling the sign of the times. I think we're going to see another decent haul of WRs this year too. _
I get your point because I wasn't convinced Watkins was the best. That is primarily due to the fact I didn't see any Clemson action beyond their season opener in 2013. In 2012, I saw them more and did not know if Watkins was even better than Hopkins.
Watkins was hurt in 2012. Watkins, I think is better but Buffalo made a dumb trade to move up when I believe they could have waited and grabbed Evans (whom is the best rookie WR IMO).
But again we don't know that to a certitude. That's my only hesitancy on Cooper. I have no doubt the guy is going to be a superstar. Are one of those "lesser" guys going to be as good? Better? Really close? At a lower price? Your guess is as good as mine. _
Well, I look at the receivers that will get drafted in the first round. Cooper, Strong, Parker and Kevin White. You will only get 1 shot to take one of these guys unless you trade up which I really don't want to do. Then you got the 2nd tier of receivers in Dorial Green-Beckham, Devin Funchess, Sammie Coates, Rashad Greene. I like these guys but I don't view them anywhere near as good as the first 4. They have upside and they are oozing with potential, but each has major weakness (or 2) in their game. Beckman could be the best receiver in this draft - but he's all potential IMO. Antonio Brown has been a revelation for smaller receivers - that's who I think of when I see Cooper. I honestly believe right now Brown is the best receiver in the league. Plays 4 downs, can beat press, can beat you anywhere on the field. To me the kid is really special and the only negative to Cooper's game is his blocking. I doubt we end up with Cooper (I think he's Raider bound), but if we could get a QB in RD 1 and Beckham or Greene in the 2nd round - then I think you got a great foundation going forward on offense. We need to hit on our first 2 picks this yr.
Actually, I almost want to put Kevin White in that 2nd tier because when I saw them play TCU, his ass got shutdown. I think he's overrated.
My dream draft is Mariota and Greene. I think as great as Cooper is, going Cooper and Hundley ultimately means we just get Cooper. I'd be happy if the Raiders went Cooper. Leaves one spot for us to get a WR and I'd like to see Carr with a stud receiver. _
After what Carr has been through this yr with a crap running game, offensive line and receivers he deserves Cooper. He could very well go #1. Mariota and Greene is a good combination. We need a receiver badly. I'm not sold on Harvin being here long-term. Greene, Beckman (have to keep him out of trouble), or Coates I hope the Jets target in rd 2. If we don't go QB in RD1, then I would like for the Jets to wait until the 5th round comes along - get a veteran QB and have him start 16 games. Hundley, just not a fan of him at all.
I don't hate Hundley, nor do I hate Petty. I just don't see the same top level play out of them that I see out of MM or Winston. Either or both if those guys could end up great QBs. I just can't see it yet. _
