I am rooting for them to lose. The logic is simple. By rooting for them to lose....they will win more in the future. What's best for the jets is to lose 3 more meaningless games to sacrifice for a whole decade of winning coming up should the Jets setup a new successful front office. It's really not that hard. In the end...fans like us are rooting for more wins.
I think hes saying he'd rather lose to get a shot at one of the top QBs than to not get one at all. Better to go to down swinging then just staying average.
nothing is guaranteed. someone mentioned the Reggie Bush sweepstakes recently. everyone wanted us to lose to be able to get high enough to take Bush. we won our last game, missed out on Bush and got Brick in rd 1 then later got Leon Washington who was as good as Bush when healthy in the 4th rd. If Luck was in the draft you may have a point but there are no sure things in this draft at QB.
I didn't say it was. But I'd rather get the chance at a franchise QB then not. I don't play in hypothetical but always gotta be in it to win it.
if the wrong people are making decisions it doesn't matter where you draft, they will screw it up. if the right ones are drafting it doesn't matter where you draft- they will have success. That means more to me than draft position.
sure but they got him in rd 6. they didn't tank for him. outside of Chad P none of the other QBs deemed better than Brady by the draft experts amounted to anything.
. It's really not. I would lose 3 games to get a top 5 pick. In the end what is more beneficial to this team? Getting a top 5 position (not even to draft...but even to be in the position to trade it even) or winning meaningless games? If the Jets get a top 5 draft pick...It also considerably makes the Head Coach and/or GM job more appealing here. So to summarize: -Losing the next 3 games means getting a top 5 talent (or being in a position to trade), making the Jets more attractive to the top Head Coach and GM candidates, and possibly ensuring a clean house. And you would trade that for winning games in this 2-11 season? I'm sorry...but losing now means a better future. The only game I will root for the Jets to win is the Pats game because I hate the Pats so much. That's the only game worth winning since seeing the Patriots lose to a 2-12 team would be the greatest thing ever. To see the embarrassment on their faces would be worth 1 or 2 draft spots to all Jet fans.
football and basketball are very different. the draft is never deep in the NBA, one player can change a franchise in the NBA. In the NFL you can get good players in any rd. Magic- #1 pick Jordan top 3 Bird #1 Lebron #1 Duncan #1 Robinson #1 Russell top 2 pick Kobe top 10 pick Wade Hakeem #1 Dr. J top 12 Kareem #1 in the NFL: Brady 6th rd pick Wilson 3rd rd Brees 2nd rd Montana 3rd rd Unitas 9th rd I could go on and on By the way, Magic the player would smack magic the exec for saying something like that.
There's a huge wrinkle in the lose out approach, really two. One is that losing out is not going to guarantee getting Mariota. It looks like TB has the inside track there. The second is that the Jets for all practical purposes are the sole roadblock in the Pats getting homefield advantage in the playoffs. NE has two home games bracketing the Jets game at the Meadowlands on Dec. 21. Both home games are likely wins for NE, who quite simply is near impregnable at home. Meanwhile the Jets continue over the last three contests between the two to be a tough matchup for NE. So, in what could be Ryan's last home game, rolling into Christmas, what could be better than a win over NE knocking them out of the first seed? Let's face it - home field throughout the playoffs is a pretty good shot at NE going to another SB. Ftr I hate NE. Of course we can also root for the Ravens, who are looming as the best playoff opponent to knock off NE in Foxboro. Unlike the cold weather wilting Broncos (?), the Ravens would look forward to doing that. And if Denver loses this weekend, it probably won't matter if NE loses to the Jets. But F it, I would love to see the Jets beat NE to F up their playoff plans. Since it's no sure thing they get Mariota, I am off the lose out bandwagon. So, what do we do about Qb? That's for another thread, but I think Cutler might work. Heh.
No matter what you are rooting for, they will without a doubt win the Titans game and put themselves out of the running for either QB, and you will be even more angry. Then they will trade a future 1st rounder and more for one of the two QBs and spend 4 years destroying him. Gonna be a hoot.
For me at this point, it's just not being upset when they lose. I'm rooting for them to win because I just cant root for them to lose, but when they do lose, like in Minnesota, i'm not as upset with it as I usually am, simply because their record is so poor, the season is long over, and big changes are on the horizon anyway.
