How come you don't want to give up on a GM after 2 years but is ready to give up on a player just after 2 years? I have said bring in a QB on the off season and make Geno earn the starting spot.
Hopefully his rape case gets dropped before the draft. The FSU boosters have really helped fix alot of his off the field activities. This should be a fun off season to watch.
Initially, I was one of those folks that preached patience. 2 years in, I'm seeing trends that I really don't like. It would have helped if Idzik would have hit on a few of his FA signings. It would have helped if Idzik had drafted better than one standout players over 19picks spanning several years. I just don't see the eye for talent that a good GM needs to build thru the draft. The plan is sound but the execution of it sucks. Now? I wouldn't mind seeing Idzik kept on as the official Cap Guru as he's good with managing contracts. Let somebody else pick the talent and the leadership preferrably somebody with prior, established personnel experience. Not the guy who happened to be in the room when the great picks were made. Firing a GM after two years is not unheard of. It actually worked for Cleveland this season. If your car is going over the cliff, what's wrong with hitting the brakes? Idzik one day may become a good GM. That day seems to be a long way off though and honestly, I don't have another 10 or 20 years in me to wait on this team to actually do something significant. Has it occurred to anyone that the Jets just might have their own stadium before they make it back to the Super Bowl.. Wouldn't that be some shit..
I would not be surprised to see the Jets keep Rex fire Idzik and go all in next season. With the money they will have this off season they can do it. Look how quick the Browns made a turn around. I'm not saying there going to make the playoffs but they show signing FA's can make a difference.
lol...you know..was just reading an article on the N.Y. Post how Rex is still cocky about his job and I have a question for all of our loyal TGG'ers....we know Woody has always had a Woody for Rex right? Is it possible that Rex knows something already that we do not know? Is it possible by putting Geno out there against Miami and just blatantly running the ball at nauseam that Rex already knows that Idzik is gone and he is here to stay? Would that really shock anyone? I really believe that could be the case GENO....very much so..in fact if I were a betting man? Watching Rex the past few weeks and the total disappearing act by Idzik? Yeah...its very very possible.
I wouldn't bet against it. I'm a Rex fan and if he was to blame I would be the head of the line in firing him. Plus as much as Woody does respect Rex I think he has already told him if he will be back or not.
I want a GM, any GM to be given an opportunity to select a HC that is his choice, not one who he is forced to work with. If the jets don't allow him to get rid of Rex and bring in his own guy, the pattern will just repeat itself, we will be stuck with a HC who has not had an NFL caliber offense in 6 years and the jets will hire another GM who can't pick his HC and is going to be forced to select players that fit Rex's defensive philosophy. The jets will be passing on offensive talent in the draft and reaching for those players in round 4-6 while Pittsburgh, Baltimore, ...etc load up on known offensive commodities early in the draft. Then I have to hear how a CB taken in the 3rd round is the steal of the draft. While I think mcdougle is going to be a good NFL player, he is no steal. In regards to Geno, the man had a year under his belt with an easy schedule last year, you would think that at some point this year he would not look like he was in his first year in the NFL but he still looks like he is in his first year. He does not have the natural instinct that a QB who has been playing the position for quite sometime should have. He is not accurate, everyone already knows he has a hard time deciphering NFL defensive schemes. His pocket presence does not exist, his ability to play from under center is very limited, and I'm not talking about handing the ball off, I'm referring to dropping back from under center and making his reads. That's why I would give up on Geno, because the NFL is not a training ground for the basics of being an NFL QB, the NFL is where a player fulfills his potential, because he has already built on the basics of what it takes to play the position. I have to give you props though, you are like the captain that went down with the titanic, in your support for Geno. You would make a good Jet fan.
Interesting post. It would not shock me.. you said it yourself, Woody has a Woody for Rex. Plus Rex is coming out now saying how great an owner Woody is.. and the report where Idzik is alienating the rest of the organization. Like any job with big power at stake if you find yourself alienated, without friends and allies, even if that is through your own plan, that usually means you are the one on the outside close to losing your job.. Would Woody really force Rex on another GM candidate though? We'd have to be the most bass - akwards team in football to keep a Rex Ryan yet again after this disaster. That's Raiders stuff.. 1990s Bengals stuff.. 1990s Jets stuff
I didn't donate to anything although I had faith in him and I was a supporter...until his press conference... As for his plan... "he's planning the plan"
See..I dont think that far ahead...and thats my problem...but thats an excellent point...and perhaps a theory breaker. I think even Woody would have a hard time pulling that one off. Very good point.
I was absolutely one of them. He had a sound strategy, one that I hope our next GM employs as well. Big name splash FA signings are usually not conducive to winning, look at the Giants. And he was put in a bad situation considering he was forced to retain Rex. However, he knew that going in. He had a fair amout of screw ups as well: 1. Re-signing Rex just to set him up to fail this year. Should have fired him last year, despite the seemingly happy ending to the season. Bad move on Idzik's part. 2. One more CB would have been nice. Letting Cro go was a good move by most accounts here, and the Patterson signing was the type of signing most were clamoring for. Unfortunately, he went AWOL and never produced. Semi-bad move on Idzik's part. 3. Lackluster drafts- I think it might be a bit too early, but the sheer number of players from this draft that were cut was pretty annoying. I think he got some studs. Richardson and Amaro are going to be really good. Pryor can be a good player if he got to actually play his own position. Milliner, I like, but injuries have killed him. Also, not getting a receiver in this draft was a crime, it was too talented of a pool. Hopefully the next GM realizes how stacked this years draft is in WR's and RB's and gets one of each. I think the premise of the thread is silly though. Calling out Jet fans for being optimistic about their GM? Why do people need to see other people eat crow to be happy? Congrats you were correct on the Idzik signing! It was a bad call, you win!
This is not to say that he doesnt have a plan. In theory his plan isnt terrible. Draft best player available and rely on the draft and dont blow your wad in free agency. However his execution has been poor at best.
How come all you Idzik fans all they can say is he should get the chance to pick his own coach. What the hell does that have to do with his FA signings? Drafts? That has nothing to do with who the coach is.

I will admit I was wrong. I defended him up until those reports of him sabotaging Rex came out. If you're that arrogant, you should be fired. Plusx it's wasting the fans time and a year off the player's lives. Like what he did first year, hate what he did this yearwith offseaaon. Much better CB's than Patterson available that we could have got for good price (Flowers). 8 out of 12 players we drafted are on team, but only 2 are making any sort of positive impact. Absolutely dismal, he had chance to change fortune. The whole QB competition was mishandled, and don't get me started on 'jet decisions' Team is also lifeless compared to 2009-2011 (and part of 2012). Maybe it's the losing, but there's no swagger. Just going through motions
