He's popular among his players because he lets them do whatever they want. Nobody is scared of him and he is just their cheerleader, not their coach. Look at a guy like Kyle Wilson--The Pats would have cut ties with him long ago, but Rex continues to play him and watch him screw up. Calvin (stone hands) Pace and Willie (penalty machine) Colon are always talking Rex up--because Rex is the only coach STUPID enough to keep playing these worthless retreads.
I wasn't referring to his popularity among his players (Obviously, it's because he's the ultimate players coach). I was referring to his popularity among Jet fans, which continues to astound me.
Maybe if we had a coach that new how to develop a qb maybe sanchez or geno would have been a little better.....I'm just tired of the excuses for rex his time is up in NY
I don't think the game has passed him by I think like most coaches Rex can't win without a full deck of solid starters on defense and an offense that can minimize turnovers and move the ball when it needs to.We don't have the corners neccasary for the defense to be as good as it can be,you can't be blitz happy without being able to trust the secondary.
Why does this keep coming up? It's not going to happen, and yes, he will get another HC opportunity if he wants it.
I honestly believe Rex would be perfect for the Michigan job...His personality suits the college game, he'd be a good recruiter, his defensive ground and pound mentality would work in the Big Ten
Stopped reading after the first sentence. With all the actually BAD head coaches in the NFL these days you really think Rex wont get another head coaching job? Give me a break.
It's because he saw great success before great failure, and because the great failure is not his alone. He's a better coach than his predecessors were (up to and not including Parcells) and its very possible the Jets will replace Rex and actually go backwards. That is a scenario that seems unimaginable and will be very ugly if it were to pass.
They need a clean start across the board. I heard that Rex could command $4mm per to be a talking head and take a year or 3 off. He has that John Madden type persona (except for recently when Idzik told him to check his balls at the door). I can see Rex transitioning to a lead roll like Madden did.
I don't think rex is a shoe in to land another HC gig right away. His teams have been average at best and terrible at worst over the last 4 years. he's never developed an offense, has publicly lost the locker room more than once, continues to make assinine challenges, and foolish mental mistakes are a hallmark of his teams. even on the defensive side of the ball his teams have been progressively worse every year. What teams are lining up to give him the reigns? So far as I can tell he is one of those bad HC's that were referenced. edit: And here's another thing. Most HC positions assume the coach with no head coaching experience is going to require some learning and will make some mistakes early on. So my question is this. In what ways has Rex improved as a head coach over his tenure? Obviously someone behind the doors at Florham park is best suited to answer that question but as fans we can see some things and so far as I can tell he still has all the game day warts he did the day he was hired. Am I missing something?
