No. He also didn't get a QB,true #1 wideout,OL. Yes I'm a Geno fan but how come he didn't have to earn the starting spot in training camp? Isn't that what Idzik preach all off season?

So Rex gets no blame?.......Rex is the reason our offense has been neglected year after year he knows shit about offense and only cares about defense....
He is a horrible game manager and fields an undisciplined team

Rex would be overqualified for the role but all odds are it wouldn't be for the best interest of either side.

One unrealistic but appealing scenario I thought of is Jon Gruden. If he falls for Mariota/Winston and wanted a new start coaching he'd be the perfect hire here. Would cost Woody serious money but he'll spend as much as he has to this offseason.

Just listening to Gruden you can tell he's a Rex Ryan fan and realistically he's probably the only hire Rex would take the demotion for. If we were lucky enough to land Gruden and he wanted Rex, Rex would be our D-Coordinator.
I know there's little to no chance for that to happen but Gruden is one of the best hires we could make, he's just a hard guy to land and it would take a lot to get him out of the booth.

He got 2 highly rated college Qbs plus Vick, etc. How's about a little coaching!

I'm not exactly sure where you get this idea that Rex won't ever be a head coach ever again. Very rarely do head coaches get one stint and then blacklisted in the NFL from another chance at being the head guy again. That's not to say it will necessarily be next year even though I think it will be, but look at the history of NFL coaches. They always get two shots especially if they've sniffed the success Rex had early here in New York regardless of how you want to swing the argument of him having a talented roster.

Has he shown any glimpse of the all around management skills needed? it's not like he hasn't been given the chance. He delegates offense to a fault and two QB prospects were run into the ground on his watch. I mean I suppose another team might take a chance on him if they wanted to make a splash, but realistically I think Rex has shown he is what he is, a great D guy & locker room presence but nothing more

Some of you guys just don't know how to say goodbye. You didn't with Mark and with Rex, too. You can't forget 4 years ago. And was it really all that much. I know Jets fans want success but first of all. One of those 2 years we backed into the playoffs. There's no doubt about that. Plus both years we didn't even make it to the Super Bowl. So how long do you want to keep him, anyways.

It would never happen; it would be far too awkward for all parties. For Rex, it would be painfully awkward to keep going in every day to the site of his humiliation (and being demoted to DC is a humiliation). For the new Head Coach, it would be incredibly awkward having the old head coach hanging around the office. Besides which, the new HC will want his own staff (and I can't see "my predecessor as HC" being high on the new HC's list).

Rex will most definitely have another HC job at some point in his career if he wants one.

I didn't watch the game but just saw the winning TD in OT on SportsCenter. A lot of missed tackles. Great defense, Rex.

I would welcome it but it's never going to happen. I think DC is what Rex was made to be. And a real head coach above him would have overruled him on that cover-zero. Also, I'm pretty sure he'll get hired as HC somewhere. He's acquired a bit of a cult of personality. When he flops again then he'll go back to being a DC. Given our luck, he'll probably get hired by Belichick.

Are you nuts? Nobody has done LESS with so many number 1 picks ON DEFENSE than Rex Ryan.

This. The original post is delusional:

    1. Rex will have his choice of about 20 teams where they will give him an "Assistant Head Coach" title and let him do whatever he wants with the defense,
    2. Rex will likely have somewhere between 1 and 3 teams offer him a head coach position if he wants it,
    3. Rex could probably get a offered a head coach position at a Power 5 school instantly if he made it known he was interested in returning to college coaching.

As a result, there is zero, zip, nada, zilch, not-gonna-happen chance of Rex accepting a demotion with the Jets to return as DC.

EDIT: People are going to be shocked when Rex is announced as a Chicago's head coach less than a week after he's fired from the Jets.

He hasn't done anything in 4 years, why would he start now?

you might as well offer him a job as a janitor, he's not accepting. he's a good defensive coordinator but there are plenty of other good defensive coaches in the league.

can we please get off his nuts already?

You people are out of your mind if you think Rex would even think about taking a DC Job especially with the team that just fired him.Why would he take a coordinator job when he has already supossedly had tv offers for 3-5million a year?not to mention how embarrsing it would be

Some of you guys give to much power to the coaches,The players we have in the secondary are just terrible ,its the worst group of corners in the Rex Ryan era and one of the main reasons we are 2-11.No QB and NO CBs,the two most important positions in todays NFL

Dopey thread. Rex gets paid at a head coahes salary in 2015 whether he is sitting home or in the broadcast booth. Why would he take a pay cut and a demotion?
