Ignore the morons and cretins who call you a fake fan (because that's what they are). IMO a real fan wants what's best for the franchise long term over the short term (a meaningless game or two). Anyone who thinks draft position doesn't matter is ignorant. Trying to justify that ignorance by saying it doesn't make any difference because of who is making the picks is even worse. Could Idzik (or whomever) still screw up? Sure, but the team's chances of getting better players is always better the higher they draft in each round. Do we want them to draft high every year? No, but when the team has totally blown a season like they have this one, the only thing that can salvage anything out of it and make it even remotely worth the pain is getting topflight talent in the draft as compensation. Just because the Jets have usually screwed the pooch in the draft doesn't mean that they will every time. I make no apologies for wanting the Jets to lose every game the rest of this season. IMO, it's the only thing that will almost certainly guarantee that Woody is forced to make major changes. That buffoon Rex also deserves the humiliation of having one of the worst records in Jets history.
I was actually kidding about that part, it just started the narrative. I really don't care what they think. _
I cant do it, I simply do not understand. 6-10 over 2-14 every damn day. hell 3-13 over 2-14, MORE wins please. i want to root for the jets not the acquisition of potential jets who are no guarantee to be our savior IF they join us. you're not rooting for future success by wanting the team to lose NOW, thats a major fallacy built on the delusion that a higher pick WILL work out and only a select few will have any impact. fake fan was wrong to say, but this isn't a mentality i can comprehend. maybe its from an overestimation of Mariota as a sure bet at QB, or the undervalue of blue chips at any other position? We want to finish behind the Bucs or titans so they can't take MM before we have a chance right? and MM (or winston) is our only chance at getting a QB and thus our only chance of saving everything. thats the rationale? thats what poor play from current players worth? I guess thats the divide, I see MM as a good prospect, others see him as a sure thing, I see losing out on him as workable and not that big a deal, others see that possibility as hell because nobody else is worth it.
Oh come on, I had an Aaron Rodgers fraud reference ready to go as I saw that post while scrolling..and then I scroll down some more and I see you stole my thunder.
Yeah, I didn't think so. It doesn't really make sense since they're from the same city. It's not like we're talking about Detroit vs NYC.
Motherfucker that sucked. A win would have been awesome there, the guys played hard for Rex, nobody quit. Really nice effort all the way around. Goddammit. Shit. Wait, did we lose anything in terms of draft position? No? Well, at least we have that going for us. But motherfucker. _
I am a season ticket holder, I am a real fan and I want them to lose. I am not going to show it and I keep it to myself when at the stadium but the only thing I have at this point is hope, just hope. I hope they get the best draft pick possible, I hope they get rid of the GM and coaching staff. As far as I am concerned, the best way for the things I hope for to come true is for the Jets to be as bad as possible for the rest of the year. I only have a handful of posts so if between a low post count and wanting the Jets to lose makes me a fake fan, I am good with that.
Im tired of the lack of a franchise player in general for all of NY sports. This draft run for the two top spots is very fun and different for me.
Interestingly enough, being a STH kinda makes you exactly the kind of fan Woody should be worrying about keeping happy. If at this point all you have is hope, that's not a long ways from apathy is it..
I stop rooting for the Jets when they are mathematically eliminated from playoff contention. The win against Miami felt good last year right? Kept Miami out of the playoffs. Kept Rex his job. Cost the Jets 7 spots in the draft. Maybe they draft ODB or Kyle Fuller with that pick...maybe not. Who knows. I understand the thinking that bad teams will draft bad and that better organizations seem to draft better. But when you are talking about the very top of the draft, why wouldn't you want the highest possible pick for your team?
Yep, this is precisely why I can't get too worked up over prospects like drafting Mariota. I was watching Jets Post Game when they were talking about bringing Harvin back and Westie said of course he's coming back, and Lucas gave him a look and said something about how you need an FO to bring him back. Meaning it is no sure thing Harvin will be back, just like there's never a sure thing, if it's a good thing, with the Jets. Never. I expect even if the Jets lose out that they somehow do not end up with Mariota. Either that or they do and they fail to develop him, and he busts as bad as Kyle Wilson. To really turn this franchise around, either Woodrow needs to fire Idzik and announce that he is renouncing any role whatsoever in running the team, which imo is not going to happen, or he sells. Which is even less likely. So in short I don't expect the team to turn around in the foreseeable future no matter how this season goes, and the coming off season as well.
Ftr I have more or less bought into Stokes's view of the rest of the season, but what sells me is not only the draft position consideration. I think more losses at this point make firing Idzik a more likely result, and since that is a good thing, imo, something that needs to happen, I am for it. Individual players' performances is more tricky, at least for me. As much as I have had a negative take on someone like Walls, for example, it is still painful to see him give up yet more big plays. The one player I am totally against seeing any success from is Smith, but that's because I am virtually certain he at best can have a decent game here and there, but will revert soon enough. The evidence is too plentiful in his regard. So if you add Smith, Ryan, Idzik and likely some others in the FO and some other players who need to go, then add the draft position consideration, I am for the first time ever on board the lose out train.
Again, I have stated that instinctively, its very difficult to root for the Jets to lose. But I agree with your analysis that 2-14 is the best possible outcome for this season. We finished fast to go 8-8 lst year. Where did that lead us? A high draft pick, at least $45m under the cap(by current estimates) should make this a good landing spot for a new GM. And with the right person, we don't have to wait long; eg, In 2012, KC went 2-14, had a player kill himself in the parking lot, then brought in Andy Reid and Alex Smith, and is now on the verge of making the playoffs two straight years.
I stopped giving a shit this year, too and my Sundays are soooo much more enjoyable. I do, however hold hope for next season. I know I don't have any reason to have any, but with Rex gone, and hopefully Idzik gone, too maybe, just maybe they can turn this thing around. I really don't fucking want to deal with another 10+ year shit show. And how there are 3 teams worse than this team, I have no fucking idea. It just goes to show you how pathetically awful the bottom of the NFL is. The jets are #4 in the draft next year as of today...How in gods name are we still #4 in the draft order next year being this bad? FUCK FUCK FUCK!
