Still trying to figure out why we didn't take Bryant in the 4th with that Clemson connection but hey we got Boyd
I'm not worried about losing ANYONE on this 2-10 roster. Especially a guy who hasn't done anything since coming here
Oh so if Wilkerson, Richardson, Harvin, Decker, Mangold were sent out you wouldn't care? That's a little ridiculous to me. You can have talented players on a bad team. That's what Harvin is here. Losing Harvin basically resets the WR position into a large position of need.
Honestly, yes, I wouldn't care. Just like I didn't care in the kotite era who they kept and who they didn't. Wilkerson and Richardson look like good pieces but this team is 2-10. Therefore it needs to be completely rebuilt. If a football mind comes in here with a working philosophy and doesn't think any of those guys are a part of it--- then I'm on board.
The WR position IS a large position of need. Harvin or not. Have you watched this team and compared it to the rest of the league? There are 31 other teams with passing games... Then there's a massive gap with piles of shit.. Then there's the jets passing game. .. And you think these receivers are good? Decker and Harvin are average receivers. I know we've had horrendous offensive talent here for so long, but let's not overrate them because we have lowered expectations on talent or a warped perspective based on terrible passing attacks for 6 years
The team doesn't need be completely rebuilt though. It would be silly to throw away good pieces just because they are from another "era". Imagine if we did that when Rex came here? The team would have stunk. You keep the talnted players.
You seem to be forgetting the key part of the passing attack, the guy who throws the ball to these players. Oh and another key part, an offense designed that top QB that passes a lot.
Yes Rex is lucky they didn't rebuild when he first got here because it would've been an even bigger disaster with his philosophies.. But that was a 9-7 team that was 8-3 and rolling before the QB got injured. This is possibly the worst team in football.
Yes but again you can have talented players on a bad team. The 2007 Jets went 4-12. The 2008 Jets effectively used Jones, Cotch, Mangold, Brick, Revis, Rhodes, Harris etc etc who were on the 2007 team. If we got rid of talented players and fired Rex and Idzik, then in two years we would be complaining about the lack of talent because we got rid of the talent we had and had to start from scratch. Then fans would start paying for a fire current GM billboard. You keep talented players on a bad team and carry them over.
I was a big supporter of John Idzik, because it takes time as a GM to build a team. I still support him, however after that embarrassing midseason press conference, I could care less if he gets fired.
If we get a QB and an offensive mind, we don't need receivers. Well would if we got rid of Decker and Harvin which would be silly. Decker, Harvin, Kerley with a QB and a passing offense is talented. It's not like Marshall, Jeffrey, Forte combo or Fitz, Floyd, Brown or top receiver groups. But it's talented and WR is not a huge position of need. If you keep up building up the WR talent thinking that's the weakness not the QB, you are not going to find the franchise QB no matter how good the WR are. You need the QB to effectively judge the talented. Nobody is going to break records with that group, but they are talented players who will shine. Yes Decker and Harvin aren't Gordon or Fitz or Andre who managed to produce top years without a QB, but they should carry over to the following year because they are talented WRs.
You can have talented players on a bad team but my point is that outside of Wilkerson and Richardson this team doesn't. And with those two, if a savvy replacement GM thinks he can use them to get better elsewhere, I'm ok considering it can't get much worse right now. And it's in need of a wholesale rebuild. Just like what should've happened after 2012 but the dumbass owner wanted to half ass it. They've half assed every rebuild in the woody Johnson era. Right now with virtually a blank slate roster, a coach who's philosophy is outdated and not working, and a GM who sucks, it's the perfect time.
I'm saying they do, they are just hidden behind bad talent elsewhere on the offense and poor offensive coaching. Here's the way I look at it, you can't blow up everyone except 2 players. That means you need to carry over talent because you also aren't fixing everything in one offseason. That doesn't mean you don't improve what you carry over if players fall in your lap (Cooper for example in the draft), but you need to carry talent over.
Would love to trade down in the draft go WR OL OL get a stop gap QB and CB in free agency and draft QB in 2015 when true talent is avl
Well they can't get rid of everyone in one offseason, so it's safeto say you can feel comfortable knowing most of the players will be back for you. I'm just simply saying I don't care who is back and who is not because nobody's job should be safe after this season I also think getting a player like cooper would change your mind on how talented decker and Harvin are. In time if this team was to have a good offense it would change on perspective on who is good and who just appeared to be in comparision
Why I would feel comfortable with most of the players coming back? You don't get what I'm saying. No I would still realize Decker and Harvin are talented football players, Cooper just has the potential to be one of the most talented players. There is a whole land of players inbetween All Pro and practice squad. They all aren't the same. I understand Decker and Harvin aren't Calvin Johnson. I also understand if Andrew Luck or even Matt Ryan, hey or even Matt Stafford, and I'll go as far as Jay Cutler was throwing them the ball with their offense, we would be saying these guys are good.
