(So has the rest of the league) So the first half of the season he passes the ball excessively when he should be running it. So now, he is running the ball every time so that his offense will be "balanced" when you look at snap counts at the end of the season.
The sad part is, Marty was known for being too pass happy and for neglecting Westrbook and McCoy on running plays. I think Rex really has a big say on nights like tonight. This is not Marty's DNA at all. This is the same way Sparano and Schotty have called games too. 3 different OCs, that adds up. Rex is behind the times when it comes to the offensive side of the ball. Doesn't excuse the predictability of MM today and for much of the year but he's not alone for what happened on offense.
I know, thats what's driven me nuts. The guy is undoubtedly creative. He's also unbelievably stubborn. He's like an offensive Rex Ryan without the Charisma.
You're smart enough, remember we are out of the playoff hunt this was a game of building back up Geno's confidence, no way MM does not call at least 30 passes next week, most of em will be simple throws but he better show drastic improvement if he wants a shot at starting next year.
Geno showed why we ran the ball 40 times last night. He sucks. He had an opportunity to drive down the field to maybe save his career and prove himself. He failed.
Geno is not a very good qb, but weirdly I think he's a better QB than he's allowed to be. no, seriously. where the fuck is the guy from the GB game who looked like a fucking NFL Quarterback for instance? CRUSHED under the weight of a team trying to stop him from making mistakes, which ironically just perpetuates the problems with the O. how did we lose that game again? oh yeah, our O-coordinator didn't trust his QB to make an adjustment and called a timeout, even though he DID make a good adjustment and he would've scored a HUGE TD had he been trusted. the team is trying so hard to keep the QB from making errors that they're tearing up any cohesive game plan and can't stop getting in their own way. setting up the pass with running threats in the backfield who keep opposing D's honest doesn't work if the only time you pass is out of necessity and your WR's take so long to get comfortably separated (partly by design) that your young QB, scared out of his wits to throw a potential pick, can't pull the trigger. Once again Smith is not good, but this staff is horrible and has him set up to fail and fall faster than he has to. they've recked his confidence in an ill-conceived effort to make the O better. i don't even know how good the talent on this team is the staff is so bad. I mean I bet Smith is a stud in Chip kelly's Offense. Conversely I bet guys like Foles or even Wilson would SUCK under this teams guidance. I was just thinking the same thing. You know there's gonna be a shitstorm over the run-heavy offense last nite so in typical Jet fashion, they'll go pass heavy next week in Minny. It could be a f'n icebox up there but they'll throw a frozen football all over the field just to prove they can..
What an enormously frustrating and painful game to watch. Any NFL QB with a league average level of ability throwing the ball could (AND SHOULD) have capitalized on how strong and unstoppable our running game was last night and audibled some play action pass plays. As has been the case so many times this year, we missed countless big play and potential scoring opportunities that would have given our defense (which was playing more than well enough) a large enough cushion to win last night's game EASILY. Even if we'd just taken (and missed) some more deep shots down field during the time when we had Miami's D on it's heels, it might have helped us to at least sustain the efficiency of our running game which Miami eventually clamped down on us when we didn't throw the ball when we more easily could have and were then left in a position where when we had to, we couldn't. I can't even bear to look at Geno with his helmet pulled low enough to almost cover his eyes because it makes him appear even more stupid than he really is, particularly after one of his bad plays/decisions.....
I'm starting to really believe that this coaching staff is toxic for QBs. I'm not saying Sanchez or Smith could be great NFL QBs necessarily, but it just doesn't seem like the team puts its QBs in good positions to succeed. And that really leaves me ready to move on from Rex after the Jets next game against Miami
