And what is the problem here with speculating about explanations for Simms's not playing?

Again, it is not speculation in general that is the problem, but that mine do not fit with your homer agenda.

Btw I am far more intelligent than you.

So, when are you going to make a real contribution here, presumably sharing with us all your excellent football knowledge, rather than again posting your bitchy little attacks on my posts?

Firstly the coaching staff didn't "chose" McElroy over Simms, McElroy earned his spot because he was BETTER than Simms. McElroy is only out of the league because of his choice not because nobody wanted him.

I can agree with this to an extent. Smith should have sat for a year. They should've brought in a vet QB to compete with Mark.

I said it in this thread and I'll say it here again. Why would Rex continue to trot out a struggling QB all while ignoring a potential decent starter in Simms? Rex was coaching for his job last year and if Simms could help him secure some wins to keep his job he would've done so. You guys think Rex is stupid but you have to give him a little more credit than this. Anything else and it's practically tin foil nonsense. And btw one second half appearance isn't enough to tell whether Simms is any worse or better than Smith. But considering how garbage Geno was and considering that Rex sees these guys in practice if Simms was really any better or worse they would've gave him a shot. Yes you're correct they do have an interest in developing their 2nd round pick. But Smith playing is mostly because Simms is not a good QB.
They explained in the beginning that Vick was brought in to push Geno and that Geno would get the majority of the snaps. It's the Mehta's of the world that act as if their reading and understanding of the English language was shit and continued to spew nonsense about a "fake" competition in order to get clicks, when Vick himself knew he was brought in to backup Geno and to push him. If there was any "competition" it was basically this. If Vick looked significantly better than Geno in his limited snaps then Vick would get the nod. Outside of that Geno was going to be the starter.

If Simms showed anything then Simms would've been the backup in '14. Why waste money on Vick when you have a potential NFL starting QB on your roster with Simms. Simms would've been in the Vick role as the guy that gets less snaps but if he showed he was significantly better then he'd start.

If Simms didn't play before it would be because he's the 3rd string QB. You took a QB high in the 2nd round and you spent 5 million on Vick. When you exhaust all other options then going to your 3rd string QB makes sense. Nothing more to it than that. But it's that kind of thinking is why we have Mehta writing the garbage that he does, it's people like yourself that eat it up. Like I said before Rex sees these guys in practice and it isn't some conspiracy to hold Simms down. Simms isn't that good and Geno may be bad but he has a higher ceiling than Simms. So it makes sense to go back to him and see if there is anything there to salvage. If Smith fails then they'll go to Simms.

He's on the roster because he was/is a developmental project?
If Smith plays well and I mean plays well based on every measure we judge good play by a QB, I would have mixed feelings about it. On one hand it's a good thing because we wouldn't need to draft a QB. However Geno played well at the end of last season and we got burned.

First of all I did not mean to imply that McElroy failed to earn the roster spot over Simms in 12. I thought he did, too. And I am not sure he would have a job in the NFL if he wanted it, but that's not the point, either. He may well have chosen to go another direction, but he might have stayed in the NFL if more success for him appeared likely. The main point is that Simms has really only been with the Jets two years.

As for assessing Ryan's perceptions here, there are several problems. One is we don't know what those perceptions are based on overall team decisions, and even less so based on what Ryan says. Add to that we have reason to doubt Ryan's competence analyzing the skills of players on Offense.

And there is plenty of evidence there was no real competition in camp this past off season. I don't know what to say if people like you keep ignoring that.

How do you know Smith has a higher ceiling than Simms? Based on what you have seen? Based on what the Jets have done and not done?

As far as Ryan's own assessment of how to best perform in his role of HC, has he made any mistakes you can think of? If you answer yes, then presumably he is capable of making mistakes in performing his job. And perhaps those mistakes can be motivated, as for all of us, by considerations we are not conscious of. In that connection I never used the word conspiracy, as in an intentional effort in such regard.

Because there is no explanantion other than the powers that be do not think he is good.
This whole "rex will look bad if simms is successful" or idzic is protecting his 2nd round draft pick is so ignorant it is beyond comprehension. If simms came in and was good they would get credit for finding a diamond in the rough. the only peoe who would bash anyone on the jets for simms being successful are going to bash them anyway. end of story.
btw, i find that people who need to tell me how intelligent they are, usually aren't.
i am sure you are the exception thougb.
now call me a homer in a 6 paragraph post

You were the one who called me an idiot, so how were you not implying you are more intelligent than me? Read your own posts, douche, before you post them. It just might make them better.

Rex and Idzik committed to starting Smith, which did not work out, and in fact is a huge demerit against both of them. They stayed with him long after he obviously was sucking. If they now put Simms in, how would their commitment to Smith look if Simms did well?

And if Simms is literally worse than Smith has shown himself to be, Simms should not be on the roster.

It is obvious that Idzik wants to try one more time to show that he was not only right to pick Smith where he did i the draft, but also to have spent this season on a further effort to prove it was the right choice. It may be that the only way he can assure his job now is to "show" how great Smith is, that he merely needed time.

to be fair, i referred to your posts as idiotic. no way a complete idiot could read a thesaurus they way you do to make your posts.
although, if you truly believe rex and idzic are holding simms back to save face during the course of one of the worst seasons in jets history,i may rethink that postion.

For real. It doesn't matter if he plays like Peyton Manning at this point.

It's not a matter of if we draft a quarterback, but where...

The worst thing that could've happened was Geno play well to give the front office an excuse to move forward with him. The guy is trash and I refuse to watch another game with him behind center

'When Geno doesn't throw the ball he's a pretty good QB'

lol...Geno would have fit in with the Tommie Frazier/Turner Gill role at Nebraska tonight.

Geno is a horrible QB. It's amazing how this kid can't play on the pro level.

I say we sign Jake Locker in the off season.

Is anyone surprised that we lost the game because of Geno Smith throwing an INT?

What else did they think would happen?

We are just lucky that it only happened once this time.

Dumbass, it's called being stubborn, just like you are. I never said THEY think they are holding Simms back. They just don't want to rethink what they feel was the right choice all along, despite the fact they have quite evidently been totally wrong about Smith.

You have yet to offer a plausible reason why Simms, in your view, HAS to be worse than Smith. Most of the posters on this board could have handed the ball off as effectively as Smith last night, and we're supposed to believe Simms could not have?

It's all about staying with a losing hand, which is what they are doing.
