How do we know who made the QB decision? Members of the media have made claims in both directions at this point, which leads me to believe that nobody knows and everybody is speculating. Unnamed sources are of no value at all. They add nothing to the conversation. If they want to come forward for attribution then we can judge what level of credibility they have, assuming they exist at all.
Would like to see them test Simms in these waters, can't see a better time to test your roster depth than now.
The guy's been on the team for 3 years now and never had a start. And during this time period the Qb play has been mostly atrocious. When he did get a little garbage time now and then he never distinguished himself. I would have no problem seeing him get a start.
I'm Worried that if Geno does well down the stretch, Idzik will keep him for next year as a starter. Resulting in another lost season
First I'd like to see Geno do well over these last games. He's still on a learning curve and he has nowhere to go but up. You would hope that Idzik does a lot better job planning for the Qb position than he has shown so far. First drafting Geno, then going with an injured player who hadn't played since 2010 as the backup and after he was injured another inexperienced player as his backup. He has to sign a true starter for 2015 no matter how well Geno plays. Plus he could still draft someone for the future but not to start next season.
He would have to be outrageously good over the last 5 weeks of the season for that to fly. Won't happen.
At least give Simms a chance to start a game. He maybe nothing but a career backup, but you have to give it a shot. It's obvious that Smith is a god awful NFL starter and the team is 2-9 with nothing to lose. This should be the point in this dismal season that all the chips are riding on long shots to see what the team has. If you're not starting Vick, you have to give someone else a chance. That someone shouldn't be Smith. Although he had some decent completions last week, he looks totally lost on the field. I can't fathom watching him for another snap.
Based on what I read Rex basically laughed when asked if Simms would start. It isn't as if he has a great roster of Qbs to choose from. He did the same thing with Tebow. Laughing at the prospect of a Qb getting a start even with a roster with of Qbs who suck the root. So why not give the guy a chance to play. And as for laughing at people. The only thing I find laughable is your coaching style. You've mishandled the Qb position long enough.
Why does anyone think Geno is the future? We gave the kid every chance in the world and it is clear that he is not the answer. If Vick is not up to the job, try someone new. I would rather start the has been than the never was.
Vick has provided nothing. And last game he came out showing quit. They are going to give Geno one more shot. But they better not play handoff with him. Or wristband with him. they better let him do it and see if there is anything in his performance worth saving--even as a possible backup. In other words, put everything on his plate and grade him hard. I am almost sure he will fail. But what else are these games for?
Instead of wasting these games continuing to watch Geno fail, how about we start anyone else so we can evaluate the rest of the roster.
Given that Vick is getting paid 4mm, completely wasted his tryout to show he could be our stopgap QB, he's the last Qb on our active roster that should be starting. Given we are out of the playoffs and Vick was abysmal, you go with the never was (Simms / smith) over the has been every day.
The HELL you say, James Hasty!!!!!! How DARE you float a thing like common sense around this place! !!!
Nothing except a quality win over a strong Pittsburgh Steelers team that we all thought would clean our clocks. And Geno had done what exactly?
I just think that the Jets regard Simms as the towel-boy QB. He is here in the unlikely event that 2 QBs go down in one game. I guess they think that the likelihood of two QBs actually sucking beyond belief in just 60 minutes is small. I think they feel they know what they have in Simms, and do not need to observe him. I also feel that Geno will fail. Every time I read something he says or hear him talk I just think" "BS artist." But this is the move to make. We have definitely entered draft pick territory.
the Pitt game was more about Ben being Geno-like than anything else. He was awful, and still threw for a ton of yards. Vick threw for what, a buck and a quarter? Perspective, please. It was a quality win because it was Pitt who lost. But their guy blew chunks in big spots all day.
When Geno gets benched at ht because of his 45 passing yards and 3 interception Inc 2 pick six, who do you bring in Vick or simms?
I don't know if I can watch Geno Smith play QB again ... he's so frustrating to watch ... please throw 3 ints in the first QTR so I can watch Simms at least try
