This is why I have a hard time believing this article. However, if there is even an ounce of truth to it, Idzik should go. The only thing I could possibly think of (and even this is far-fetched) is that Idzik did want to fire Rex, but Woody said no (especially after overachieving last season). Thus, Idzik kept the cap space on purpose, saying he would save it for better use, and not overpaying for players. Idzik would then put Rex at a disadvantage, which leads to what has happened all season, and giving Idzik the excuse to fire Rex.
This should have been obvious to all Jets fans by the way Idzik let his secondary leave in the offseason without replacing them. Recall how truly bizarre it was that Idzik let Cromartie walk (who's a star with the Cardinals now), didn't re-sign Revis, and passed on about a half dozen good CB options. Rex was screwed royally by this pathetic organization, and now we as fans will have to suffer through probably decades of losing football while our young stars age, we draft bust after bust at the QB position (starting with Mariota, who will be a bust mark my words).....all I have to say is, thank goodness for fantasy football!! We all should come to grips with the fact that, if the Jets could not win a SB with Rex Ryan, they most likely never will in our lifetimes.
What's obvious to me is that the circus is indeed back in town. Not the Tebow Circus of a not-so-long ago era, but a new circus with Idzik as Machiavelli, Rex as the fall guy and Woody as the insulated Owner/RingMaster. Until this leadership void is filled with competent people, the circus will remain. Until Woody hires someone with prior direct personnel experience instead of someone that has to learn on the fly, this organization is thoroughly FUCKIFIED until he does. For a coach who brought so much personality and identity to Woody Johnson’s franchise when he was hired, and had astonishing early success with the two AFC Championship Game appearances his first two years, this has become sad to watch. But Ryan’s fate with his team 2-9 and eliminated from the playoffs before Thanksgiving is something he had an idea was coming before the first game was played this season. Sources told The Post that, during the offseason, Ryan bumped into scouts and other coaches from around the league who told him Jets general manager John Idzik had been telling people his plan all along was to replace Ryan after the season and bring in his own head coach. “Did he think that wasn’t going to get back to me?” an angered Ryan told one confidant. All year, Ryan has been exasperated by the deficiency of talent Idzik has given him — particularly at cornerback, which is the most crucial position on his defenses. Through it all, he has remained a company man and kept those frustrations to himself, instead actually praising some of the ill-fated moves Idzik has made. Idzik staying more than $20 million under the salary cap this year was a clear message to Ryan there was not a strong commitment to win during a year in which Ryan knew he had to win to keep his job. I don't believe it. The team is bad because they are both just incompetent, not because there is any power struggle.
If this crap is true then I have no problem with Idzik being fired. Normally I wouldn't want to fire a GM so quickly but this would make an exception.
I love the quote about the opposing coaches not wanting to face him, no one is afraid to play the Jets. I believe the opposite, and that's why the bills ran up the score, it's a screw you statement to the Jets and Rex. Keep on believing this garbage that is put out by the media, especially the part about not giving rex any talent. The jets have been a defense heavy drafting team since rex got here and after 6 years and forgoing the offense they have a terrible team. Enough with the rex pitty party, I do not believe for a moment that a GM is going to sabotage his HC and then tell people that he was going to fire him all along. You guys are too smart to believe this propaganda, even if you don't like Idzik. This is garbage journalism by a garbage newspaper and they wonder why Idzik gives them nothing.
Not sure, you're right. So I should have thrown an adjective in front of it. I'm speculating because over the years when things haven't gone right we always get leaks and this pro-Rex spin and I've always been suspicious of it. I don't think this was all a set up by Idzik to fire Rex. First I don't believe John is a snake in the grass. And would tank a season for petty reasons like that. Plus he couldn't get away with that with ownership. But if he did it would he be telling people about it. So if you want to say he did a horseshit job no one would disagree with that. But these allegations to me seem phony.
if true then idzik should be fired. maybe he should be fired even if it's not true. doesn't mean that rex is a good head coach cause he's not. i'm starting to really believe it's setting up for harbaugh to come here. not a fan of him cause he's a jerkoff but i do believe he's a very good coach. so as long as he wins games , i won't care as much if he's a dick.
31 other teams would have fired their 2-9 coach by now but not the Jets....Idzik should follow him out the door and Woody should follow Idzik out the door
BS or not it's more fuel for the fire. I thought from the time they hired idzik that he was in over his head. He was nothing more than a higher mid level manager. Not the guy that a NFL team (especially in NY) should let rule the organization. I hope we clean house.
Idzik isn't a guy who talks a lot. If he was going to do this you'd think he'd shut up about it. Especially since the owner likes Rex Ryan. He's done a piss poor job dealing with the vicious press here in NYC. And really made a lot of enemies. On Twitter Mehta is openly calling for him to be fired. And he's not alone on that.
Everything we know about Idzik is that he doesn't speak often and beat writers have been one step behind on every move he's made. With that in mind I find it hard to believe he was running his mouth about firing Rex. This is Rex and his agent being smart and setting up Rex for his post jets career. Smart move. Saying that, if Idzik was careless and made up his mind, and told people about it, out the door. My guess is that people speculated that, not that he was running his mouth
This whole episode reeks of trouble making and unsettling by media sources. IF there is any truth in this, quite possibly it could be coaches/scouts from other teams whipping up the frenzy in order to expedite Ryan to their own team. Doesn't look or sounds right to me though
Nice post except I don't think it is a rant. I think it is dead on. As for Woodrow, we know he has no prior experience running a business, so why should we think he is going to learn to do so now? The writing was on the wall when the West Side Stadium proposal failed and he had no alternative beside getting in bed with the Giants. Sure we had the run from 8 through 10, but that was all Tanny taking the very short term approach, one the organization has sworn not to follow again, and I don't think they could, anyway, given the reputation the Jets have as a clown show. The team is essntially not fixable as long as Woodrow owns the team. What that means for the fans, for each of us as fans, is the real question. In the short run I still watch other games and follow the playoffs and that sort of thing. But as a Jet fan, what does one do at this point?
