But 6 out of 10 WERE first round picks and you conveniently left out 3 SB wins by two high first rounders. Facts dispute YOUR position. Unless of course you think that Mannion in the 6th becomes Brady, Petty in the 2nd becomes Brees and Fred Slapdick goes undrafted an becomes Romo. _
Some years you may not. This year you do. Beyond MM and Winston the class is filled with projects. 1000s of projects don't work out. Except the 3 that did and that's all anyone points to. But...Brady...! _
Don't get me wrong, I like Hundley but I don't see in him the player I see in either MM or Winston. Mir we drafted him I'd be his biggest fan, I just don't see the ease of throwing completions I see with Mariota. And I really like Mannion as a college QB but I just don't know whether he's an NFL caliber player. _
No, the facts you just stated support my argument which does not allow you to group Rogers into your position because the argument in dispute is that you need a top of the 1st round pick to get a franchise QB. Rogers is not a top of the first round pick and belongs to my argument. My argument did not exclude all first round picks. The amount of Super Bowls does not negate my position in any ways. Fact is half of the top ten QB's were drafted exactly where I said you could get them -- outside of the top of the first round. We can do this dance all night but you will just continue to look like Elaine Benes the more you try to minimize that.
Lol the top winning franchises in terms of SBs and just consistent winning were helmed by top first round draft picks. Discount them all you'd like. You sound like George Costanza trying to sell cotton uniforms to Steinbrenner. We HAVE a top pick this year. There are only TWO top QBs destined to go in the top 10. There are no Rodgers this year. No Brees. No Brady's. Mariota and Winston, both top 10 picks and no one else. You're wrong. It's ok. _
Guys consistently left out of your "no need for a first round QB or high first round QB let's wait until much later in the draft to get a HOF franchise QB" rant. Eli Manning was the first pick in the draft and has more SB wins in his minuscule career than this entire franchise has in 50+ years. Joe Flacco a mid-round first round QB won a SB and has been one of the most successful QBs in history and before last year had made the playoffs every year of his career. Yeah first round QBs win in this league. A lot. And consistently. But....Brady! D'Oh! Brees! D'Oh! Aliki Smith!!!!! _
Rodgers could have just as easily been the first overall in the 2005 draft and Alex Smith be the 24th pick. Rodgers dropped because there were not many QB needy teams near the top of that draft.
Everybody please stop with the Brady thing. Another HoF QB is not going to be drafted that low. It is not going to happen. That is all. Aaron Rodgers was going #1 in some draft boards, he was a high pick who fell on draft day. This is certainly possible with a good player but he won't fall all the way to your pick one round later. You can't pass in that scenario. All this to say, draft your QB high. I like Mariota but maybe the Jets think Jameis Winston is the bees knees. Either way, draft your guy and go. None of this "best player available" garbage. And please no wide c receiver in the top 5.
This year is kind of similar to the year Rodgers got drafted in that there are 2 guys that are head and shoulders above the field. The difference is that there are more teams looking for QBs this year.
Tanny got fired because of bad contracts esp Mark's extension. Mark sucked but never as horrible as what we saw tonight. He set us back because he isn't a franchise Qb or even a fair starter.
Set us back from where exactly? Tanny got fired because bad roster construction and the opinion expressed in the bold set this organization back more than Mark ever did.
Yet there are folks here that say as an absolute you never need a high first round pick to find a franchise QB. Finding that miracle seems to be the strategy some are espousing. I'm thinking we eschew Mariota at 3 in the hopes we find the next Romo as an UDFA. You know, because it's happened. And AKILI SMITH ARRRGGGHHHH! _
To this day, I still think the Sanchez extension was a good gamble if you look at the other QBs getting 100M / yr now. Tanny was fired cause of Tebow and the awful drafts late in his tenure.
