Eli doesn't belong in the Hall, he had 2 great postseason runs but his body of work does not say Hall of famer. Coughlin probably gets a spot though, he took an expansion team and made them into a contender and went on to win a few rings with the Giants.
Im just saying, I think being a 2x time Super Bowl MVP is a more prestige honor than being in the Hall of Fame. Everything else I agree with you though, his overall body of work is not that impressive, he really was on the right team at the right time, with everything breaking right.....I swear if he had ended up on any of the other 31 teams, he probably does not have a Super Bowl, maybe one, but definately two, its just how things worked out though, stars aligning........
If Eli was truly a borderline HOFer he'd be a lock b/c of the SB MVPs but he's not even in the discussion at the moment.
Remember the advantages both Jax and Carolina had entering the league at that time,. both made title games in their 2nd year.
What years were they great? They even sucked when they won their 2 Super Bowls. 2008 was Eli's only good year that I can remember.
Eli was really good in the 2011 reg season too, the #s weren't great but that was a Hall worthy season overall. other than that his only other hall worthy season may have been 2008.
Eli's 2011 was his only epic season. He had record 4th quarter comebacks to win the games. And his defense that year was 32nd or something during regular season. Yes they got hot in playoffs but it was all Eli who carried them to post season that year.
Winning that legendary game against the undefeated Patriots is going to help both of their causes. Not saying they will both get in necessarily though but that game will hold clout with the voters
the D held one of the greatest O's of all time to 14 pts. they already got their gift HOFer from that game in Strahan.
junc If somehow your pretty boy Sanchez did what Eli did in those 2 Supoerbowl runs, you would demand all Jet fans to give Sanchez a blow job all the way. Your double standard is beyond explanation. On one hand, you refuse when people say Jets' 2 AFCCG games were product of Jet defense but not Sanchez. On the other side, you belittle Eli saying defense carried them. Be consistent man. Be consistent.
Mark did what Eli did in his title game runs. the difference was Mark's D/STs didn't win the title games like Eli's did. Eli played really well on those runs as Mark did in his but that doesn't make Eli a HOFer. Never said Eli's D carried him, Eli played really well but the D keyed those runs just like us w/ Mark except their D played great throughout, ours only for 2 games each postseason.
Game in and game out, Eli isn't close to being a Hall of Fame caliber quarterback. It's only the widespread idiocy embraced by the national sports media of assessing individual quarterbacks by counting Superbowl rings (a team statistic) that allows such a silly notion to be taken seriously.
I do like the joke but in reality Eli is not playing poorly this season outside of last week's game for the most part. He's not playing at an HOF level either but he's much better than he was last year.
If the question has to be asked then they don't belong, a HOF career is obvious to everyone who watches.
Okay maybe Eli himself was good in 2011 but the team was bad. The 2008 Giants was the only one I thought was legitimately good since Eli being drafted. Can't take the 2011 team serious when a Jets win in that game would have made the Giants toast.
Coughlin and Eli will both get into the Hall Of Fame by paying the admission fee just like all the visitors do. Winning two Super Bowls and a ton of losses isn't actually enough of an accomplishment for these guys. Roethlisberger will get in, he has a boatload more wins than either of theses two guys. Peyton will get in based on wins.
