When a Qbs team is in a hole he's supposed to try to dig out of it not dig deeper. And with Chip's O and the playmakers they have it's not impossible even if the Eagles D couldn't hold off Rodgers. It's not all Marks fault but he was a part of the problem not the solution.
It really is amazing. That play started the avalanche. edit: It was 21-9 at that point . . . but still
It was 21-9 ..... I still wonder about that play though. The whole thing turned upside down from there. Thanks 3rd round Winters (whom we could've drafted Keenen Allen or Jordan Reed with the pick instead).
I don't know that I agree that a pick 6 with 6 minutes remaining in the third quarter can be called a "garbage time" interception. Is a comeback likely down 27 points and that stage in the game? Obviously not but such a comeback wouldn't have been unprecedented and if any offensive system is built for that type of comeback it's Kelly's. Hard to imagine the team was throwing in the towel that early, which is what "garbage time" suggests to me. Good thing Jeff Garcia didn't have any garbage time picks against the Giants in that Wild Card game back in 2003.
The game was over before the 2nd q. Mark was making some throws early on despite two hits to the head but they fell flat in the red zone. One was his fault the other was a drop by Matthews. But overall the team was dooomed from the start against GB. Ima usin Tapatalkie.
so you think facing a Kerry Collins led Giants team at home is the same as facing an Aaron Rodgers led one on the road? let's say they score a TD to make it 33-13, you do know GB came right back and scored another TD after Philly got a TD to give them 13 pts, right? the GB O could have scored 70, the Philly D was not stopping them. It was complete garbage time.'
If anybody watch that game and saw the pounding he took from his OL not blocking would see Sanchez did not lose that game. The great Peyton Manning was under pressure all game long yesterday and look at what he did. I don't care how bad or great of a QB you are if he doesn't get time to throw he will look bad.
Did you ever stop to think that if Sanchez had led the Philly offense, the 5th best offense in the league, on a couple TD drives early in the game it might have been a totally different game? It's easy to blame the non call on the one sack, but the fact is on that play if you watch the replay you see that Sanchez had a receiver open in the middle of the field, he hitched/pump faked and then was hit after wards..he was gun shy. He had his play and he was indecisive....he hitched and pulled the ball back despite his receiver being wide open. He makes that pass, even if it's incomplete, he doesn't take the sack. Watch the game, watch the play...and watch Dilfer break down the play and how Sanchez hitched and failed to get the open receiver on it.
BTW for a QB trying to audition for a starting job and new contract and rehabilitate his image there is no "garbage time". Every play will be looked at and the 6 turnovers in 10 Quarters isn't boding well for him.
Funny things happen in a football game. Strange bounces can occur. What evidence did the 49er defense show in that game to suggest that they could all of a sudden stop the Giants from scoring for the rest of the game? It's a loser mentality if your QB thinks it's garbage time in the third quarter. Yes, the Packers did continue to score but that's hindsight.
I don't think he cares a lot about football. He just likes being the QB. Reading Collision Low Crossers, I got the impression that he was a nice guy who was just too flip.
Mark is all about self preservation. He goes fetal about as fast as any QB I know. And last evening on the fumble 6, he got out of Dodge fast to clear the way for the GB guy with the ball.
Sanchez is an average QB. There's games where he shows he can be slightly above average and there's games where he looks like he shouldn't even be in the league. Hell even in his "good" games he manages to sneak a fumble or INT in the mix. I don't hate him or love him like some people here... but im just tired of hearing his name linked with this team it's going on two years since he been released. Let it go people, he's never coming back, and he's never going to be great.
Mark's a veteran Qb. He's had over 60 starts. He's not a kid anymore as his fans always affectionately called him. So there's no excuse for rookie mistakes. No matter who the coaching staff is.
Despite the 3 fumbles and 2 INTs I thought I saw a lot of improvement in Sanchez. He was certainly much better against the Packers than during his time with the Jets. The improvements I noticed were 1. Sanchez actually took some hits and did not fold up into full panic mode. In the past one hit will cause Sanchez to go into panic mode and give up. He is arguably the softest and worst QB under pressure we have seen since Rob Johnson. Despite the hits against the packers he kept trying to compete which was a tremendous improvement over his time in NY. He looked much more like a football player than he has ever before. Maybe he is maturing or maybe he simply realizes his time in the NFL could be over unless he puts in more effort. 2. He was stepping into throws. Something we rarely ever saw from Sanchez. 3. He was making quicker decisions and getting rid of the ball quickly. With the Jets he was almost always played confused and indecisive. 4. He actually made some accurate throws into coverage. With the Jets Sanchez could occasionally complete balls if his receiver was uncovered but almost every completion was off target usually low and behind the receiver often putting receivers at risk. Against the packers Sanchez completed a number of well thrown accurate throws to covered receivers. I would credit that to him playing less scared and stepping into throws. I have always contended that his fear of contact was the reason his mechanics broke down and why his accuracy and velocity was so poor. I am not saying Sanchez is anything close to even mediocre. But he displayed some improvements in the Packers game. It may take Sanchez sometime to start panicking and mentally unravel again. But I think the time off has given him time to mentally refocus and make football a bigger priority in his life. I guess the question is will he mentally crumble or will he grow into the role and become a competent back-up capable of remaining in the league. I can't imagine a better place to play QB than Philly. Great running game, explosive playmakers, receivers that can catch poorly thrown passes and a coach that can protect Sanchez with quick passes and the hurry up offense where thinking to much will not hurt him as much.
when you are down big your mindset has to change, you start taking more chances and sometimes good things happen while sometimes bad things happen. How close were we to not coming back vs. Miami in 2000? if Coles doesn't snatch that INT away we don't come back. Bad things happened the other day, to blame Mark shows a lack of knowledge. To say he wasn't good is one thing but to act like this was all on Mark and he sucks and all that is just either blind hatred or lack of knowledge. every play will be looked at, teams will know that the first INT at Hou was on the WR and the 2nd one may have been as well. they will realize the circumstances of the Packer game. they aren't dopey fans. Mark has played very well overall since coming in, he's helped the team win 2 of 3 games while losing at the hottest team in the NFC- no shame there.
I never blamed Sanchez for the loss a single time. I blamed Sanchez for that particular interception. I don't agree with discounting poor decisions because the team is trailing. It's not as though he was forcing a ball into a tight window or taking a deep shot down the field. He just eyeballed Celek and never saw Peppers. That's never okay, especially for someone who is under constant evaluation.
