Lee is a huge step up from his predecessor. His big success was Tony Romo. Many might scoff at that saying that Romo is a choke artist. But how many undrafted QBs put up numbers anywhere nearly as good as what Romo has? With regards to big blocker's comments about preseason fluff, the coaching staff always oversells the team in preseason. I'm glad that a coach is accepting blame for Geno.
One thing that did bother me was Vick being unprepared when his number was called. I don't know how much Lee works with the backups as far as 'getting them ready to play', but come on.....with Geno already playing really bad and the fans calling for Vick for weeks, to think Vick was unprepared when his number got called really hit me like no ones watching the cookie jar. I'm not sure who got caught off guard more, Lee of Vick. Either that or Lee had no time left in the day to get Vick up to speed after trying to 'prepare' Geno.
You can't always keep blaming the Qb coaches for the bad play of the Qbs. The mistake with Geno: g There comes a point when you have to blame the player. I have no doubt that Lee and Cavanaugh were not responsible for the breakdowns with either Sanchez or Geno. Are you going to blame the Bengals coaches becauise Dalton is having a terrible season. The players are just not that good enough.
This is seriously the first thread blaming Lee, when every other thread blames Smith. The coaching staff needs to take a hit here. In his time here, have Lee QBs progressed? No difference from year to year is a huge problem. Same goes for Lal. These guys continue to get a free ride, yet their only job is to help these positional players improve at their game. If I don't see improvement, I blame the coach and the player. You're an NFL positional coach, and you tell me NOW you have something you can't work with? Get out of town. Give them something, anything that they can translate to improving their game.
There's overselling and then there's really overselling. For example, Ryan said this was the best roster he'd ever had or some such nonsense. That for a team that proceeded to lose 8 straight games. Offhand I have trouble thinking of any greater disparity of overselling. Plus the opinions about the specific progress of Smith in the off season was not merely part of some overall optimistic assessment of the coming season. It had to do with the justifications for why Smith was given the starting job over Vick, which decision turned out to kill any chance that the team would be competitive. It was something other than the usual preseason fluff, and now Lee is trying to say it was not fluff at all. He in effect is trying to justify what he said back then, and in turn the decision to start Smith over Vick, by basically saying Smith WAS awesome before the regular season began, and then, for some reason Lee has no idea about, turned back to awful once the season was underway. I think that's all bs, and I would bet you a billion dollars that Vick would agree.
Yeah and that was implied with the word oversell. I know it's bs. I never thought otherwise. I think the whole point of it is to get fans to spend money on tickets and overpriced NFL merchandise instead of billboards and aerial banners.
So this is probably going to come out in the media soon. Geno was pulled over (don't know why) and his Land Rover was impounded because he doesn't have insurance
Yet somehow he is smart enough to play QB and will eventually learn to read defenses someday if we give him enough chances to start.
