Will most likely never happen but I think it looks great on paper. That's the kind of draft haul that can rebuild a franchise with the right coaching.
Definitely not happening. They could easily be the first 3 picks this year lol. Would be awesome though.
Look I don't expect our players to be choir boys but it's not easy to root for a guy like Jameis Winston.
Takeaway the sexual assault charges which he wasn't charged for. Are the crab leg and "Fuck her right in the Pussy!" incidents really that big of a deal? Both are stupid and immature but that's not getting him off my draft board. From what I hear he's the leader and Alpha Dog in that Florida State locker room and he showed some heart coming from behind and beating Louisville the other night. Led his team to a come from behind BCS championship game win his freshman year. I think there might be more positives to getting him then negatives but we'll let Idzik or the new regime figure that out. He's probably had the most pressure and scrutiny of any college athlete of our time for a guy who has yet to lose a football game.
Sexual assault isn't immature. It's criminal. He wasn't officially charged correct but there's more to that story and it might be coming out. The other stuff that we know about is immature although you don't make those kinds of comments when you're being investigated for rape. Not a guy I could root for.
I was joking. When someone suggests that it'd be a great haul to get the number 1A QB and the number 1 WR, I'll also throw in a suggestion we also get the number 1 LT, and what the fuck, let's also get the best pass rusher too. _
Quarterbacks make receivers, not the other way around. This team, or any other, that does not have a quality quarterback is not winning football games. The fact that the Jets have had back-to-back QB's that turn the ball over at an alarming rate is beyond frustrating. If they do take a QB this year in the first or second round, I sincerely hope they've learned from the error of Rex's ways and sit him behind a veteran QB for a season, or more. But no more Brunell's, no more Garrard's or guys of that ilk. That vet has to be a guy that can still play. Vinny T was the perfect guy for Chad to sit behind. Because of that when the time came for Chad to get on the field he wasn't some rook thrown into the fire. If Vick is that guy, great...
I'd consider drafting Jameis, but not before I spent a LOT of time talking to him and testing him to try and determine his intelligence level. Immaturity can be fixed, intelligence cannot. While there is a thing called 'football intelligence' as opposed to 'general intelligence', IMO the excuse that someone has 'football intelligence' even though their dumb as a rock applies to every other position on the football field OTHER than QB. QB's in the NFL have to process so much information and have the memory capacity to absorb and remember it all that a overall dumb guy with 'football smarts' usually turns out to be a bust in the NFL. It ain't a smart bet, and all the physical attributes in the world cannot make up for bad decision making in the NFL...you may get by in college, but the NFL is different. However, in general, if I believe in a QB at my 1st rd pick I'd take them over any other position in the new-CBA NFL because the cap impact of a miss is not catastrophic as it was when we drafted Sanchez and the Rams drafted Bradford. If I'm an NFL GM, I would have to know that any QB I was going to draft had the mental capacity to play QB in the NFL before I even looked at his other traits such as arm strength, 40 time etc. But that's just me.
I can't decide if Jameis Winston is going to be JaMarcus "Jeezy" Russell or Tim Tebow. I know what he's not going to be - good at the NFL level. The guy is not a passer of that calibre, and in the NFL the defense has better athletes than he is. Mariota is an interesting case, he has not been outstanding in all games but he has been very productive, and he DOESN'T THROW PICKS. I can't overestimate how impressive that TD/INT ratio is.
This is absolute bullshit! Most starting offensive tackles (especially good ones) were taken in the first two rounds of the draft. Sure teams find good lineman later in drafts just like they find good quarterbacks later in drafts but that does not mean that waiting for either one is a good idea. The premise that we can build a quality offensive line with mid to late round picks is what got us into our current mess. On the other hand if you are willing to pay top dollar you can sometimes get a very good offensive tackle in free agency while the top QBs are rarely available in free agency.
People say Mariota is going to be one of the hardest prospects coming out, to judge in recent time cause of the system he plays in. He's a gamble. Winston has the pure talent, but people are, and rightfully so, going to question his mentality. He could very well be Russell. He's not Tebow at all, way different caliber of player.
Florida State is great but a lot of their schedule are marshmallow opponents. I'd like to get a Qb who has shown he can perform under fire. No perfect conditions. Cause he's not going to get them here.
Winston is the best player in the draft, but with those gambling allegations, it would be nuts to draft him in the first two rounds.....if they turn out true, he would get thrown out of the league immediately. So even if we used a 3rd round pick on him, and started him, had success, but lost em due to getting banned, it would hurt our franchise so much. This is truly a tough situation, it sucks that Winston has all this baggage or else this years draft would be a lot less complicated.
It took a while for the Raiders to escape the whole Jamarcus Russell fiasco, Winston has that same feeling all over again. In New York? Just a bad idea. If the Jets are going to draft any QB in rd1 it has to be Mariota. How can teammates trust you if you are truly point shaving out there on the field?
Still just beat THE #1 DEFENSE IN THE NATION and beat SEC Auburn for the title so sorry if I think the point you're trying to make, makes you look like a clown.
It's pretty obvious this kind of behavior is condoned at Florida State, as well as the incidents with other players. The enabler coach doesn't give a shit. The Tallahassee police don't give a shit. The school didn't bother to investigate Winston until they were forced to by Title IX. They're postponing his hearing until after the season. Stay away from him. Call me crazy, but I want them to trade the pick if they're high enough to have a chance to fill other holes
