That's great, let me know when Chip Kelly wins a Super Bowl with Sanchez as his QB. Sanchez was a free agent for a month and apparently no other team in the league thought he was good enough to be their starter.
OK…if you really want me to. I'm pretty sure you have the means to find out on your own though since it appears you have internet access and I'm guessing a TV.
Sanchez was a free agent for a month and apparently nobody in the league felt he was good enough to be their starting QB, let alone perfect for their offense. Speaks volumes.
The Jets seem to be drafting based on their board. It's possible that Idzik is free-lancing in there but highly unlikely. That's not his rep and it's not the way most teams draft, particularly teams that talk about consensus a lot and Idzik has talked about that in the limited information he's given out about the team's approach to talent. Whether the Jets board is any good is an open question given the talent deficits that have developed over the years. It's hard to imagine that Vlad Ducasse of UMass should have been anywhere near the top of an NFL team's board. Stephen Hill was a hot post-combine riser but given what we know now it seems ludicrous that he was that high. Part of the Jets problems in finding talent are that they value potential very highly, in some cases almost ignoring production, and that they have a really strong tendency to project players in roles they didn't play in college. The Jets are always moving college tackles to guard and then surprised when the move doesn't work out well. Coples may or may not have been drafted as a LB (he didn't play LB until Richardson was drafted) but he's another 1st round talent that is playing somewhat out of position. Pryor was playing FS despite being mostly an underneath defender at Louisville. Stephen Hill was drafted to be an all-around receiver despite being an isolated deep threat in a running offense during his college career. How much stuff can you teach somebody at the NFL level and have them still maintain the performance levels they had in college? You're already teaching them a new system in many cases. Is it reasonable to expect to teach them a new position as well and get good results in the process?
Not at all, and this isn't just regarding you because your not alone in the belief that one man should take total blame for the "failure " of the last 2 draft classes even though its all premature when you deem a draft class a success or failure. I just don't think Rex and his coaches are completely faultless for some of the defensive players not having success right away if people are looking for someone to blame.
The offense by going into hibernation for most of the second half could have lost the game. It was the kind of game losing teams often blow. The reason we won you'd have to say was a turnover ratio of 4-0. Vick wasn't lights out but he held onto the ball. Remember his first game he was a turnover machine. But we wouldn't be 2-8 with Vick as the starter. What this nugget of info does is nada. It doesn't change a thing. I guess the press and some of us have to blame someone and the name of that guy is Idzik.
I agree with most of this but in the end a GM wanting to anyone but himself for draft failures is like me back in the day trying to convince my teacher to change the grade on a homework assignment from an F to a passing grade because my friends "helped" me complete it.
For the last few weeks? I do. You'd have to be an idiot to think Geno wasn't killing the team (or that he gave the team the best opportunity to win) and I don't think Rex is an idiot (and I'm pretty sure Idzik might be).
Not really ... I don't select my opinion by democratic process. Also, I can't wait until halftime tonight when everyone remembers "Oh, yeah ... it's Mark Sanchez, there's a reason he was one of the worst QBs in the league for four years." This whole notion that Sanchez is actually going to be good is hilarious.
So now they want to fire Idzik for not starting Vick. Well if you like Vick so much whose the GM who signed him.
Wrong way of looking at it ... they hate Geno so much that they want the guy who drafted him (and insisted he play) gone. It's got nothing to do with Vick.
Drafting Geno in the 2nd round wasn't a bad pick. Committing yourself to him as your starting Qb was a mistake.
And most people, rightly or wrongly, believe that committing to Geno was solely the fault of Idzik ... hence, they want him gone.
Idzik had a major part in that decision, there's no doubt about that. They did bench Geno but it took a zero rating for them to do it. To me this "why didn't they start Vick earlier" is a non issue. I'm watching SNY and that's all they're talking about instead of giving the Jets credit for a good win.
Problem is this isn't just limited to QB position....it's taken injuries to Brian Winters, David Nelson to realize how ineffective they are and to find out we have better talent waiting in the wings. Same thing with Cromartie when be was hurt last year. Does that fall on Rex or Idzik? I would love anyone's input. Where else could we be not putting forth the best player? Not drafting instant starters is one thing, not knowing who your best players are is another. It's not a sign of a well run team.
Why? It was readily apparent in training camp that they didn't let Vick compete for the job (likely at Idzik's demand). And it was obvious to all three games into the season that Geno is not an NFL starting QB and should be benched. It's not the fans fault that the front office is stupid; it's not fair to pretend the fans could not see the same thing the front office could not see. Sometimes the obvious answer is the correct answer: the fans knew what they were talking about more than Idzik (and many in the media) did. It's as simple as that.
Geno is abysmal on crossing patterns. Too slow on slants. And he throws a rotten deep ball. Seven step drop, mid range vertical stuff, pretty good. Better by far to his right than his left. I remember watching Johnny Huarte (yes I am that old) and I used to tell people that the guy was rotten hitting guys on the move. People scoffed. Guy sucked as a pro, though.
