I think we are all in agreement there. However, some of us are lobbying for a vet to start while the rookie learns from the sideline. It's obvious this regime cannot develop a rookie QB and have him start day 1, they have done it twice and both times failed. Having Vick stick around isn't awful, it's obvious that if he can stay healthy he is a very serviceable QB in this league. Depending on who gets fired/hired, who knows what can happen. But having a vet that can actually play and start can only help in the development of a future QB. If you're talking "QB of the future" then it wouldn't be tanking if the team can utilize a veteran to assist in the development of the new QB. Besides, if this year is any indication, Vick might have garnered more wins than the turn over machine we started for most of the season.
Rumor is Cook would leave if he is a high first rounder. Considering that Cook probably goes top 10, I think he leaves. If not, he is probably the first or second pick (depends on Hackenberg) in 2016. As for Bradford, I just dont think knee injuries for a QB (especially one who doesn't rely on his legs) are that troublesome. 2 in a row is just bad luck. But if the knee heals, I would 100% want him to be the starting QB next year.
The Jets starting QB is not on the Jets roster at the moment. And you're a fool if the game today makes you think we can stick with Vick for next season.. This season is one thing, but not for the future. Whether it be Mariota, or a free agent like Bradford, Hoyer, or whoever, Vick is not our answer. He was lucky to not have lost a fumble and throw a TERRIBLE pick, today. If we had a competent QB (and better OL) our offense wouldn't be so bad and wouldn't stall on drives in the red zone..
I love how people think this FA QB is just going to fall out of the sky. Go look at the avilable UFAs for next year, and see who is worth a shit. Hoyer is getting resigned, the dude is 9-3 as a starter on a team that hasn't won in forever. Mariota is a rookie, and the point is, starting a rookie is moronic, especially when it comes to the Jets. Bradford has a high ceiling, but the dude is made of thinner glass than Pennington was. So like it or not, Vick is one of the best options going into next season. Like it or not.

Vick, as he was last year, could be seen as one of the better players amongst this crop. Mallets a wild card, Moore hasn't seen time but is seen as a good backup for whatever reason, I'm pretty sure we aren't returning to sanchez and honestly he'll probably sign a new deal with philly no matter how he turns up. if no Hoyer, yeah Vick it is, he'll even be relatively easy to sign, especially if we give him the line that he's the starter until the rook says he's not on the field.

Yikes. That's some impressive list of back ups. Mallet is getting his shot next week, so we'll see. Like Hoyer though, if he does well, I'm sure they will have the inside track to keep him around. Learning 3 systems in 3 years would be less than optimal, and there are no income taxes in Texas. Sanchez might do well somewhere else, but I believe that ship has sailed.
Reason I see Cutler hitting the trade market. He's just one of those QBs that would drive us insane, he can look like Elway, and then look like a JAG the next week.
dudes got a 15 million dollar cap hit next year, a 16 million one the next… all for a guy that is streaky as hell at best. thats un-tradable theres not a team out there thats gonna take that risk, not even us. goddman that was an awful deal, it goes SO over cutlers value, and they can't even cut him till after next year too! Qb purgatory does crazy things to a team man...

The primary reason Cutler might be available cheapish is that Trestman wants to go another direction and the cap hits to keep Cutler around are too high. What do the Jets have a big surplus of? Cap space. Carson Palmer went to the Cardinals for a 6th and a 7th essentially because he had a huge contract and the Raiders wanted to move on.
I haven't looked but I'm pretty sure Andy Dalton's deal is just as bad. Amazing how bad these guys are even with the weapons they both have.
ok just to give an honest answer, I think he'll just be re-signed by philly. and if he's not? somethings wrong and he's not worth the time of the day, which lowers the chance of his being here even further than it already was. logically the eagles should want him back, as he is a decent backup in kelly's O at bare minimum and a potential starter/bridge QB/entity to keep Foles honest at best. he's got value to the eagles that he simply doesn't anywhere else. If philly doesn't want him and lets him hit free agency, it means that the next few games went horribly for him and that he's too poor to give another chance. Just as well, Sanchez should WANT to come back to back eagles. he has his best shot in philly, where he can up his value for a good chance at a new contract down the road or potentially usurp the starter thats come back to earth. going back to NY would be a backtrack in all regards, why would he WANT to come back here? he's got a better shot there ethan here at this point. I think its safe to write him off for those reasons, if he's playing in free and white, its in Philly not E.rutherford.

I'm not too sure about a guy like Dalton...he's got a top 5 receiver and RB yet their offense has looked pretty pedestrian as of late. Not sure exactly what the problem is but some of it has to fall on the QB. Dalton in a place like NY with the "lesser" talent wouldn't be too appealing from my point of view... I'm really on the fence concerning Bradford. The guy has all the talent in the world...but if he isn't on the field then how can he help? The FA crop doesn't look hugely appealing...but I'm hoping we can find some lightning in a bottle.

Yes, that's right. The Jets need a talented, unprofessional QB with absolutely no leadership qualities who vanishes in big games and earns $30 million in guaranteed money. That would certainly be a SOJ move. Cutler is not the future, and the problem is that he will expect to be paid like he is. And can you imagine the pouting if we try to develop a QB behind him? Dude threw a fit and forced his way out of town just because the Broncos had the temerity to talk to Peyton freaking Manning. No, thank you. Let the Bears suck with him.
