glad we won but it may end up costing us in the long run (but I don't get too bothered as we aren't going to get the #1 pick whatever happened today and you never know in the draft who is going to pan out and who wont, our best pick in years was taken #30)

Idzik made zero draft day trades this year even though he had 12 picks. To me it was a mistake. Something Tannenbaum was pretty good at doing. Even his deal to trade up for Sanchez was a good one because he was able to package expendable players and not too many picks. I hope he doesn't draft Jameis.

and our worse pick recently was 6th overall.
win games when there are games to win.
make picks when there are picks to be made
don't let the picks dictate when to win

Its kinda funny because Tannenbaum traded up and was criticized for it ( especially for the Sanchez and Revis picks, when I think he only picked 3 or 4 players)
So, Idzik horded picks and now is getting criticized for it.

you need a middle ground - Tanny got carried away so that we only had a couple of picks to make - which was more of an issue when those picks didn't pan out as hoped - but would like to see the Jets being a bit more flexible next year

He wouldn't be criticized if he made good picks. It's a two part process: (1) Hoard the picks, (2) Use them to draft good players. He didn't do Part II.

Tanny made a lot of good draft day deals and usually got good value according to the Draft Value Chart. He just wasn't always good selecting players. As for Idzik in 2014 there was no way he was going to be able to keep 12 players. So why not package a few picks to get better quality or a player they really wanted or do what New England does when they have extra picks: Trade them for next years picks.

YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME
That being said, it's a process.

Listen...Idzik's 2014 doesn't draft look good right now, at least in the short term. But this whole thing of hording picks, he had 4 number 6's. What's the percentage of hitting on any of them? On the other hand, he had 3 number 4's. You'd like to see hits there, for sure.

I just have to say that the Detroit Lions had a whole bunch of first overall picks but never won anything. We drafted arguably the best qb prospects of 2009 and 2013 and look where we are.

There are problems with this team that a first overall pick will not fix.

Getting back to the OP, I think all this win did is guarantee Rex & Idzik are here at least until the end of the season

Hording picks isn't a bad idea, it's just that Idzik didn't capitalize on them.

I don't know about that. If they have another two or three game slide in them, they could be out the door a little sooner.

For those who think that tanking for a draft pick is a good thing, the poster child for tanking for a higher draft pick can be the 2008 season where we beat the Chiefs on the final game and missed out on Matt Ryan and ended up drafting Vernon Gholston. The problem with this is that Matt Ryan never won any superbowls yet Joe Flacco (who we could've picked in the first round) did.

Why draft 12 guys then. Trade back into 2015 when you won't have as many picks. Btw 2 guys the Jets drafted this year then cut and put on the PS are on active rosters of other teams.

At this point, past the bye, with no more than 5 games left after the Bills, I don't think the switch will be made.

I don't think they would name a new coach in hopes of winning games, because they're season is done. But, I think if it all goes really wrong in the next few weeks they might can Rex and start the ball rolling on considering candidates and getting the word out that the Jets are looking for a new HC.

I'll tell you what win doesn't help our future...the Seahawks

If Coughlin "retires" and Reese gets canned, the Giants jobs will be considered much more of a plum, and we'll be the JV again, like in 2012
Hopefully, the Giants will hire Cowher and leave the other candidates alone
