I'm admittedly not a college football junkie, but I think it's pretty clear that this kid could be a legitimate starting QB, potential franchise QB in the big leagues for a while. I don't see a weakness other than having to pick up an NFL offense, but like I said he's not a peabrain running around like a chicken with his head cut off chucking bombs downfield to get out of trouble.
Well put. We may not need to trade anything if they don't win another game. I just don't know if Oakland will win one either.
Raiders will be building around Carr - kid's the real deal. If the Raiders get the number 1 overall pick, Amari Cooper will be the first player drafted. Raiders receivers are so bad, so bad. They run the wrong routes, drop passes.
"He seems to" are the operative words. There have been a number of prospects that have been exactly that and didn't pan out, so I understand some of the skepticism. I do think they have to take a chance on him though.
mariota has all the tools to be successful and i'll be extremely happy if we select him. he just has flaws (like all prospects) that worry me i see him attempt to run too much, but isn't great. he's extremely quick and tall, but he needs to add muscle on him if he wants to be able to consistently do that in the NFL. He stands tall in the pocket, has great accuracy and arm strength, and can throw on the run, but rarely do i see him go through progressions. this doesn't mean he can't do it (he does have a high football IQ and had a great work ethic), it's just something i don't pick up on film it should be stated that oregon's offensive line stinks though, so that probably adds to the reason why he runs a lot
The bold part we have no idea - The pro offense is 100% foreign to him. The ability to go through reads and progressions he has no experience. If the Jets draft him and throw him into the fire, then the probability of this kid busting increases exponentially - he needs to hold the clipboard for at least 8 games to a full season while he gets accumulated to the basics of being a pro style QB. Oregon System is very QB friendly for a collegiate QB. The kid more than likely will selected by the Jets, the Jets better acquire a veteran QB that can start week 1. If Winston wasn't an immature brat, he would be the top QB selected in this draft. Again, I don't like this draft for QBs in the first round so take that as you will.
Way too early to tell if Carr is the real deal. We thought Geno could be the real deal too after the Atlanta game. Carr could be a bust just like his older brother but i do hope the Raiders think he is so they draft Cooper or White. This team needs to draft a QB desperately and keep Harvin. I would definitely draft Mariotta #1, then draft OL. If CJ plays the rest of the year like he played this past Sunday, it may be useful to bring him back as well. This team needs to start doing what Indy is doing for Luck and drafting around their franchise QB. Not neglecting offense like they have for years now.
Mariota is a different QB from Luck, BUT he has all the tools and intagibles that Luck has...He is a different breed of QB (A Spread QB vs. a Traditional Pocket Passer QB) Just like Luck, I expect struggles...Luck had a few INTs too...You have to learn in this level and adapt too, which is why I hope he can sit and study before coming into the firestorm
Derek Carr is light-years better than Geno Smith, that kid is the real fucking deal. This guy has been reading pro defenses since David Carr was in the NFL. Geno Smith's game against the Falcons, was pure fools good. That game was against a non-existent pass-rush / awful secondary. Carr is far more advanced, reads defenses and goes through progressions. Dude is a gifted passer and has become better against the blitz. David Carr would have been successful if he had a better supporting cast coming into the league. Newsflash btw, there is no Andrew Luck prospect in this draft. We won't see one for a long time.
I think Cooper is by far the best player in the draft but realistically the Raiders could trade back , get something for the number 1 and still take Cooper if they want him at pick 3 , 4 or 5. Some team will be stupid and trade up to 1 for a spread option QB and put him in an NFL offense. Hopefully its not the Jets. Hopefully we know better.
I don't see a scenario where Mariota isn't a Jet this April. The only way is if the Bucs move ahead of us. Even so, I've been hearing a lot of rumors about them liking Winston a little bit more. Just be ready when that time comes...
lets not get carried away...And I see many scenario's outside of our hands Mariota ISNT a Jet. Lets rephrase by saying "I don't see a scenario where Mariota isn't a Jet this April, if he is available and we are on the clock."
Lovie probably thinks he can work with Winston and change him. Hope he tries. Hope any team but the Jets try. That kid is gonna be such a disaster. As much as I am against the idea of taking Mariota I could probably come around to giving the kid a chance come next training camp. If we draft Winston though? Holyyyy shit I might hand in my Jet-fan card.
Hahah OK you got me on that one ... Jets might not win another game this year, so more than likely the kid will be OTC. Only games I can see the Jets winning is the Titans game and the Vikings game... It's possible. Other than the QB position; pass-rushers, offensive lineman and receivers look to be the stars of this draft.
this is why i want them to loose every game and obtain the #1 pick..i dont care if you say i should never want them to loose games... im tired of this garbage QB play every year.... suck for the duck and dont look back...hopefully for 10 years we wont have to worry about it again
It's best for Winston to play in Tampa Bay - better weapons, less of a media issue. It would be toxic for Winston to come here unless we have a disciplinarian as a HC. I agree we stay away from Winston - if this were a veteran filled team maybe Winston would work here. Like in 2009 instead of Sanchez we got Winston? Regardless of who the Jets draft, I will support them, but man I hope we have the right plan for them. If we trade for Johnny Manziel, that would be the time for me to take a step back.
