Absentee ballot mailed about 2 weeks ago.

Voted no on most amendments except medical marijuana...The fear mongering on medical marijuana by certain groups (Cops, old people) is insane.

It needs 60% to pass anyway...Not going to get that in our backwards state.

Did you know that if all the registered voters that don't vote actually voted for a 3rd party candidate, that that candidate would win in a landslide and we wouldn't have to deal with all this Democrat/Republican B.S. anymore? Less than 1/3 of all registered voters bother to vote. Time for the 2/3rds to rock the boat.

Question for you political savants. How come sometimes I have to vote for propositions or whatever along with candidates. Isn't that what I elect my damn representatives for?

Also - doesn't that seem like a shady way to get things passed to you or is it just me?? Make a really long/complicated proposition that most people who vote aren't going to really read let alone research the pros and cons before making a decision. So voter turnout is low and of those that vote the percentage of those aware of the proposition is low too. What are you getting like 1% of the electorate by the end of the day that votes on the proposition & knows what it's about?

I remember last year I actually took the time to flip the ballot over and read through the propositions and one of them was a very long , two paragraph, purposely vague description of what was simply a pay raise for those in charge. I was like Hell- NO. What a shady way to get yourself a raise!

Yeah, but is there a better way to try?

Proposition Y--give pay raises to all the politicians.

Who would vote yes for that? :D

I find that there is a real flaw in the premise that people who are too lazy and uninterested to bother getting off their ass to vote are actually likely to make good decisions if and when they decide to.

Maybe if there were viable third parties, more people would deem it worth their time. Not sure I believe that, but the system we have in place is going to require fundamental structural change before it ever happens.

Abolish the Electoral College and all political advertising. Force the candidates to take advantage of every opportunity to actually speak and debate in front of the people they represent.

Then fund raising goes out the window and actually talking to your constituents at every opportunity is what replaces it. You want good representative government? Then make the representatives represent their constituents, not the people who paid to get them elected.

I like republics. I prefer they decide themselves if they need a raise so I can vote them out in retaliation.
