Do you guys actually have faith that we can utilize any receiver? When was the last time we had a 1000 yard receiver?
I am going to reserve my right to bitch about what receiver we should have took until i see evans play a snap in the n.f.l.
Speaking of botched WR picks, isn't it amazing that high 4th round pick Jalen Saunders was not only cut in favor of non-NFL talent like Chris Owusu, Walt Powell, TJ Graham and Saalim Hakim, but he didn't even get picked up for the team's practice squad.
Uggghhhhh Calvin Pryor over Brandin Cooks... I didn't totally hate the pick then, but now I really see the team has 3 strong safeties and 0 free safeties
Moncrief was obtainable in the third and Martavis in the 4th. If we used free agency to sign a CB we wouldn't need McDougle. I will admit we don't have Luck or Big Ben at QB and both would struggle because our position coaches suck as well as the QBs. Example: who decided to give Jace Amaro no targets yesterday? 20/20 hindsight? Maybe, but look at the WRs we used or acquired: TJ Graham, Chris Owsu, Jacoby Ford, and some other no names. WR was a big need and Idzik doesn't try to help his 'franchise QB'? He tries to find some practice squad guys on the cheap instead of swining for the fences for elite athletes and big bodied wrs like Moncrief and Bryant. Only until we fell to 1-6 did we acquire Harvin at which point the public was totally against the franchise and Geno was a walking embarrassment. Evans never compared to those two as a prospect. Whoever is employed to scout the offensive skill players should be tarred and feathered.
Hey, you don't want the offense to be too good. Then they might make the defense look bad! You guys couldn't figure that out?!
Considering the Jets and Rex's prized defense is on pace to set the record for getting the least turnovers in a 16 game season and on pace to allow the most points in a season, "play like a Jet" must means SuckAss.
Also looks like he's no longer on the Cards PS either. This kid did have some talent in college, it must be a medical thing. If so, that's pretty shitty for him.
It's not an excuse, but a fact, 30 teams also passed on him 2-3 teams. Good for the Steelers for grabbing him and developing him, but WR have been a Steelers strength in the draft for whatever reason and seem to have got another one. The Jets do need to make better picks but once people try single out picks in the later rounds, you really are point out one team made a good move and 31 others passed on that player.
Another undrafted rookie FA making headlines is Taylor Gabriel on the Browns. Great find by the Browns GM. Yet, Idzik and the Jets entire scouting dept. can't find a decent WR in the draft, let alone a rookie FA. Disappointing.
Problem with that argument is it assumes all other teams have the same needs. They don't. Chicago doesn't need a WR. We did. And to show that we did, we took two before the guy was drafted. And one is out of the league and the other one was dropping passes in camp. It's time to stop giving this FO a pass - every other team is drafting better than us which is why our roster is where it is today. If we had the benefit of having a well run front office for a few years, we would have higher standards.
How Idzik missed on every wide receiver in the deepest wide receiver draft in 30 years is reason enough to fire him..add to that have two free agents go awol, and having more draft picks working at kinkos than playing in the NFL
Did you miss the part where I said the Jets need to make better picks? Every other team is not drafting better than us. The Jets have been below average though. Here's the thing, if the guy is a talented player you sign him. The Bears signed Holmes, who was a question mark coming into the season, they would have upgraded that position if they knew the kid would be an upgrade. They don't, that's why it's the draft. The Steelers have been money on WR picks and developing them, better than almost every team in the league in my opinion. (with the huge Sweed bust) The Jets probably miss on more than the average team in the NFL, but they aren't the worst because they haven't been missing on multiple top 10 picks like other teams. The Jets haven't much of an opportunity to miss that high, and if you repeat that high that means you are drafting worse than the Jets. Seahawks, Packers, Broncos, Colts, 49ers all took WRs before him too. All their front offices suck too for missing it? And again, if this is such a key player to build the Jets need to draft better argument on, then 31 teams should be kicking themselves for it. Something better, obviously hindsight, would be passing on Bridgewater in the last draft, not missing on Martavis Bryant.
