Agreed. NY is the last place a young QB will want to go. Indirectly, it's because of the spotlight. ...Not that the player can't handle the attention. It's the management: Coaches and offices under the intense spotlight of the media are less likely to give young players (mid/late round picks) chances unless they are touted, high picks.
Joe Namath sold his souls and his franchise to the devil for the SB 3 victory. The soul for all eternity and the franchise for the remainder of his time on earth. One of the greatest SB victories ever followed by year after year of futility. Every time this team gets close they come up short. 82-83 season ends in Miami 98-99 season ends in Denver. I feel the Jets easily beat the Falcons in that SB. 09-10 season ends in Indy 10-11 season ends in Pittsburgh after knocking off the #1 seeded pats in Foxboro. I really feel that this team will never win the big one again until Namath is gone from this earth.
I thought all year that a Jets-Vikings Super Bowl was coming. I was just sick on Championship Sunday. I remember feeling like the whole Super Bowl game was some kind of alternate reality, like I was having a nightmare that I couldn't wake from.
I disagree. If the Jets think Mariota is the QB they want, then they have to do what it takes to get him. If it means drafting him early and reaching a little, so be it. Of course, it would be infinitely preferable for the Jets to actually do their homework and figure out which other teams would be likely to take him, and then trade down a little, garner and additional pick AND take the QB they cover. The problem with that, is that some teams will overpay to get that QB and will draft one earlier than he's projected to go. If the Jets like Mariota and believe he can be their QB of the future, as long as he rated as a consensus top 10 pick, then they have to take him, even if they're picking at the #2 -#5 spots. No CB, WR, or OT is going to have the impact on the team that Mariot could have if he pans out. That's the bottom line. Going with the CB, WR or OT is the "play it safe" route, and the Jets can't afford to do that any longer. They've done that for much of their history and it has cost them. I'm not talking about wild trade ups or being reckless a la Tanny, either.
