NO, NO, NO. Some guys are suited to just be specialists and not great head coaches. Haley is good as a OC, but not as a head coach
I get that you don't like the guy but jeez give the guy a little credit would ya. Ben Roethlisberger is a good QB but come on now.. the last 2 weeks in which he practically rewrote the passing records has little to do with his offensive coordinator? The fact that they used have a trodding ground and pound offense and now have a dynamic no-huddle based passing offense has nothing to do with the offensive coordinator? Their development of great young receivers like Emmanuel Sanders, and Antonio Brown since he joined the team has nothing to do with the offensive coordinator? come on now.. I don't know if he would be a good choice here or not.. I might not have a brain in my head but I'll be dammed if I didn't wish my Jets offense looked like his Pittsburgh offense. And fuck - I could careless if he's the biggest A-hole in the world.. it's working for pittsburgh and nice guy cheerleading Rex has these Jets at 1-8 (and counting)
The Jets looked at Haley before, but that was with that ridiculous shared role with a never accomplished anything Tony Sparano. So of course he took the OC job in Pitt. Like you I was impresssed by his work with Arizona. I don't know the ins and outs of what happened in KC, but I know much of the criticism was aimed at Scott Pioli, not Haley. And while Andy Reid came in and fixed everything, an HC like Andy Reid is not likely to be in the Jets' cards. Haley is the right man for the job in terms of his orientation to offense. But I doubt he comes to the Jets with Woody still being the owner.
yes clearly i don't like the guy.. nor do the fans of the Steelers, nor Big Ben, who were pissed he replaced Arians. he's been a popular scapegoat until the last couple games. objectively, i don't blame him for the Steelers missing the playoffs 2 years in a row (since he's been there), this years 3-3 start, or their anemic offense during that stretch. i also won't overly credit him for the last 2 games, where the offense was incredible. i love everything about the Steelers structure of an organization. I'd take the Rooney's/organization identity and consistent philosophy, no 1 boss structure, their great scouting dept, Tomlin, Dick Lebeau, Big Ben, and Antonio Brown any day. To me, Haley's ceiling is producing as an OC in a very favorable and stable organization, while keeping his mouth shut as much as possible. running the whole show in the NY spotlight, without a QB, would be a disaster and further sinking ship. your last comment about our 'cheerleader' coaches suggests you want the exact opposite, which would be typical of the Jets endless cycle of change (see Mangini). It's kind of ironic that you cite a team like the Steelers though, who have very successful 'players coaches' in Tomlin and Lebeau. personally i think the Jets need to stay within their philosophical identity, which hasn't been executed nearly as well as the Steelers. play good defense, control the line of scrimmage, be physical, win in the cold weather December games, draft well, and pounce on a QB when the time is right. To do that, i think the first change is front office structure, as well as the scouting dept. Then find like minded coaches to support that structure rather than define it. everyone is evaluated on their jobs independently, and have the team building philosophy transcend individual jobs.
I'm sorry but there is no identity here. I'm told they want to play good defense but they get lit up every week. I'm told they want to run the ball while they ignore the run and drop back with subpar QBs way too much. There is the "play like a Jet" cheerleading B.S. that Rex claims is an identity though and Idzik borrows like a jackass. Still trying to figure that one out. The only constant here in the Rex era has been terrible offense, a regressing defense and inconsistency in preparation from week to week. Some identity that is.
If this game turns into the embarrassment we all think it will, at home, how can Rex possibly remain the coach heading into the bye week ?
Serious question. What am I missing here... Why are the steelers only favored by three against us this week? with how crazy good their offense has been as of the last couple of games this was a head scratcher
The Steelers will crush the Jets. Big Ben just had a great two game stretch which he will continue against the Jets. Vick will be lucky to walk off the field at the end of the game.
Antonio Brown could break some records. Shifty after the catch and can get open, deadly combination against this inconsistent, poor coverage NYJ team.
We've already lost . Time to start watching something else when the jets "play". Ima usin Tapatalkie.
seriously?1? the peeps in Vegas know something...... and there's gonna be ALOT of CA$H dumped on Pitt with that spread but honestly I wish all their games were 4pm for the rest of the season.......... ruining a perfectly good sunday watching the JETS get hammered sucks
It's going to be so embarrassing when there is more black and yellow than green and white... Sickening..
