I don't feel a lot of confidence coming from the players or from Rex. They don't believe in themselves. I think our only chance of winning is if Mike Vick gets hot. Things click on offense. And maybe the defense can get a few turnovers. The Steelers looked great last night but you know how things go in the NFL. One week you can be great and the next week come out flat.
Brown is going to be a nightmare for the Jets to deal. They have so many ways to get him the football
Do we even need to discuss this mess anymore? I think we all fully knowwhat to expect. 1-3 INTS 1 Fumble by the QB 2 ugly drops 1 drive stomping wildcat 1 12 men on the field 3 shots at a deep bomb from the opposing QB 2-3 Folk Hero field goals 2-3 drive altering pens from the Guards 3 holds/PI from our secondary 1 block to the back/clipping/whatever on a return 0 turnovers 2 3rd and long overload blitzes some meaningless sacks and a TD, maybe even 2 this week . . . . . . . . . Who am I kidding, 4 Folk FG's and 0 TD's
People might hate this idea but.. what about Steelers OC Todd Haley as our next HC??? He washed out in KC but at the end of the day he took a team that won only 6 games in 2 years under Herm prior to him to a division title in year 2. Year 3 they struggled with injuries and he had a personality clash with management (probably the biggest reason he was fired). Like we see often times coaches are better in their second opportunity and I think if it wasn't for the personality clash anyway with Pioli, who is a tough cat to mesh with anyway, he probably wouldn't have been fired. He worked wonders in AZ as O-Coodinator though and is doing some tremendous work in Pittsburgh now. He is also great in the passing game, particularly good at developing/getting the most out of WRs: where his roots are (Larry Fitzgerald in AZ, Dwayne Bowe in KC, Antonio Brown in PIT - all developed and had their best years under his tutelage). Plus he got his roots here - first job was offensive quality control and WRs coach under Parcells' Jets.
Don't want Haley although he had ties to the Jets through his father. Too many issues when he came to the Steelers with Big Ben. Although it seems they worked things out but it took too long for them to get on the same page.
care to elaborate? I'm not trying to champion his cause or anything but you offer a strong opinion without a reason.. I personally almost throw up every sunday with the guys we have running the ship now..
people talk about toxic players, or disruptive forces in a locker room.. well Haley is that as a coach. he's a fake tough guy who players genuinely hate, and i don't feel he offers much as a coach to offset that. there's been turmoil every place he's been. add in the hot bed of the NY media spotlight, and its the perfect recipe for disaster.
He has brought Pittsburgh out of the dark ages. They were trying to play the old-school, dated, ball control offense of the past and he has them humming right now with his modern approach. I think the abrupt change certainly ruffled some feathers but look how they are playing now.
Could we possibly lure Malzahn away from Auburn? That team was in the sewer and he revamped their offense and guys love playing for him. Nick Marshall has gone from a glorified running back at the beginning of last season to being a pretty good passer
Well the players love the coach we have now and that's not working out. Maybe they could use a "fake tough guy" over a nice guy with no discipline.. Also, the second go-around maybe he learns from his mistakes and matures. They said a lot of the same things about Belichick that you are saying about Haley when he flunked out of Cleveland.
the second go around? he hasn't learned a thing from his days in Ariz where Boldin almost refused to play for him. that's Boldin, a player who has never had a problem with any other coach, and is a true tough competitor in this league. in KC, the problems didn't just stem with Pioli. Mgmt right on down to the players couldn't stand him, namely Bowe. In Pitt, immediate clash with Big Ben, the team's biggest asset. That's quite a record of clashing with mgmt and players. Where has he learned and changed?
lmao, the dark ages of Pitt winning Super Bowls you mean? Pitt's biggest asset is Ben. Haley immediately clashed with Ben, and it looked for awhile like the two wouldn't be able to co-exist. their Oline not being nearly as good as their Super Bowl days, Ben is playing his best football, so they are of course throwing it more. it has little to do with Haley, and a lot to do with Ben. That team hasn't changed identity or philosophy in years. They draft defense and Oline, and play a physical brand of football. I'm sure they'd love to run the ball with more success.
