Can someone tell me how many times since the last SB win, we've actually had the chance to draft a franchise QB in the draft but went another direction? Anybody know of the top of their head?
Sanchez is the one time when the Jets had the right strategy, albeit the wrong guy. They knew who they wanted and got him, for a song. Sadly, we know how that worked out: buyer's Choice-supportive bias even resulted in a big contract on a known-bad commodity. Whoever they draft, I hope it is not because he falls to them or because he has value. Do what Jacksonville did - find the guy you like and take him regardless if he is a reach.
About a generation ago, Peyton Manning. Last season - Blake Bortles, Derek Carr, Teddy Bridgewater, et al. Jets just chose a wrong season to tank.
it has to be dozens and dozens if you go back that far. Think of all the great QBs that have been available to draft at one point or an other since SB3......then right off the bat, you can count every single one that went in the 2nd round or lower since the Jets could have taken him in the 1st round ( sans years the Jets didn't have a 1).....then you would count all of the ones who went in the 1st round where the Jets picked already. Gotta b lots and lots of QBs in there that coulda been Jets
Namath is the one time we got it right-- Find a once-in-a-generation talent and do whatever it takes. That's what this franchise should have done with Peyton Manning.
We got fucked twice. Could have drafted Peyton but he didn't come out so we took Keyshawn. We were ready to draft Favre, but then the Falcons traded up ahead of us. They took Farve ... We got Browning Nagle.
Yep. There was talk of drafting Manning anyway. Like the Celtics drafted Larry Bird. Tuna was the last guy to do that tho. He was on a fast trac plan. I think of that often: what if Tuna pulled the trigger on drafting Manning anyway.
I still believe we would have won a SB by now had he came here. Rex knows defense, Peyton knows offense. Now would Idzik have fucked it up? We'll never know.
I'm not saying that is not the case. I'm just giving my opinion on what would have happened. He fucked up imo. At least he got some records.
Had parcells reached out to him and told him the team would commit to drafting him in 98, word was he would have come out... precisely to play for Parcells. But Parcells wouldn't guarantee it. Of course, in 2012 there was no chance. In either case we would have run him out of town for his lack of arm strength.
The Teddy one still hurts. I thought for sure we were getting him. By that I mean from the little college football I watched and how he was considered the top QB, I wanted him ha
