I think their decision making are very similar. MM is just not the vocal leader that Russell is. He's more of a leader by example.
He did the early hard count to get Stanford to expose their blitz pre-snap. Then changed the play for the TD. That's transferable to the NFL.
Incomplete pass, because of a hard hit. But did you see that pass just now I thought he Mariota just throws screens?
If we have a chance at Marriota and we pass on him over any other position I will puke all over Idzik and his mini me Bradway.
I think we will be in on Mariota or Winston, that is unless someone throws a kings ransom at us. We can take a receiver in the mid rounds or go after Treadwell or Duke next year.
If we draft Mariota we could sign Fitzgerald if AZ releases him and concentrate on the o-line in the early rounds. Fitzgerald is not only a great player but a good genuine person who would be great for the locker room. It also helps that he's one of the best run blockers at his position. With Lamborghini Percy and Jeremy Kerley that is something that could certainly be helpful.
My mistake. I lumped off field antics in with work ethic, and that's not at all fair. I made assumptions about his work ethic based on his character, which I think 95% of the time is reasonable, but as you said, from all accounts, it is not pertinent here.
Pass on Larry Fitz. A great player, yet he's on the back end of his prime, and would command way too much money to come here. A team close to winning a SB would bring him in to put them over the top. Hell, Arizona may go to a SB this year lol We're not close to a SB right now. I'd rather find a younger veteran WR or take a cheap, talented WR in the first 3 rounds of the draft.
Mariota made some nice throws last night, looked to scan the field as well. At least he proved to me he could make throws in tight windows against a stingy defense. I still don't view him as a must-get prospect but more performances like last night and Michigan State will surely make him the guy to get. Guy is fast as fuck though no doubt about it, that would bring a great element to the offense.
question is stokes do u trust the current staff (idzik, ryan, and marty) to develop someone like mariota.... and dont think for 1 second the mariota camp (whoever that is - family, friends, lawyers) isnt monitoring the possibilities next may. they already know who may need a QB and who doesnt. IMO - the jets unfortunately should come with a red flag to anyone, especially QB, at the top of the draft. looking at the recent experiences with sanchez and now smith is all the proof anyone needs.
Irrelevant in my eyes to the discussion at hand. This is, in my view, a hypothetical discussion as to who I want us to draft. I have (i) no idea who is going to be here next year and (ii) no illusions that either one of the 2 prior QB were capable of being developed like Mariota is. I'm just a fan, I'm not in the FO so in my eyes I want the best possible player, I'm not thinking about drafting based upon my coaching staffs propensity to fuck up. If that were the case, I'm never drafting any offensive player and only taking defenders. Actually wouldnt have ANY offensive players, just play defense all game and try to develop getting turnovers and pick 6s or scoop fumble TDs because our offense has been the worst I've ever seen it. My forward looking fandom is done with illusion filled eyeglasses such that the players we take will be developed the way they should be. If the FO fucks that up, I did my job. _
We draft Mariota...... It won't be any different than Geno...... Mariota will not be a good pro QB. I'd rather re-sign Vick and draft a different position all togather than go after Mariota.
