Stokes I don't watch college football. I don't like it. I haven't watched even 1 throw from Mariotta or Winston. Until yesterday I didn't even know Mariotta was white and Winston was black. So I am not able to comment on who should be the pick. I go by people like you or WW85. Both of you think Mariotta should be the choice so I am leaning towards him but if he is taken before our pick, we should pull the trigger and pick Winston. If he pans out, good. If not, keep drafting QB every year until you find your guy. Tired of incapable QB's derailing this team's future.
The interview process will be critical for him obviously. The draft just got thinner at QB too with Connor Cook intending to go back to MSU. If we can't get Mariota idk what we'll do with the QB position if the FO is convinced Winston is too much of a knucklehead
neither is white, Mariota's Samoan. If you got a few minutes, check out some the videos on draftbreakdown. they show every relevant play a prospect makes in a game, so every run, pass or turnover from a QB. its not as complete as a scouts film or something, but it should help you get an idea of what the player is beyond hype videos that only show the players best moments. http://draftbreakdown.com/players/marcus-mariota/ http://draftbreakdown.com/players/jameis-winston/
How can you not LOVE this kid?!? Holy fuck what a player. Am trading my entire draft for him. Yeah. I said it. _
I like him a lot. not enough to give the kitchen sink for 'em, but he's good, I'll be happy to have him in NY green. he'll probably fall to us anyhow.
I don't think he will be the type of prospect someone trades up for so if we finish third overall we could get him, provided that Oakland and Jacksonville finish 1-2.
That's wrong thinking. You do whatever it takes to get your franchise QB--the kitchen sink if necessary. Not giving up that package to grab a good OT and a good CB and maybe a good WR next year is thinking small. Give it all up and 2 years from now and for the 15 years thereafter the New York Jets could be the next version of the Patriots. Are you really willing to pass on your Tom Brady because you didn't want to give up a few draft picks that May amount to nothing? We grabbed Miliner and Geno with 9 and 39. Would you give them up to Mariota? I would. _
I wouldn't but it helps that I'm not THAT sold on him that I'd be willing to give everything to have him. First round talent? absolutely. top 10 talent? probably. Got some flaws about him? naturally. Worth the time to develop him? yes. Worth giving up a load to ensure he's here? …eh?… His intangibles, quick release, good arm strength, size, and mobility are very attractive assets. his lack of dropping back, less developed ability to read defenses (than Winston, I'm sure MM's is fine but its not as pro ready) and over reliance on his mobility (700 rushing yards a year,WOW) keep him from being a can't miss thats so good I can't see why we wouldn't give two firsts for 'em or something. I see a good if somewhat raw prospect has a high ceiling, I don't see a guy I'd give up a lot for. And honestly the jets might not even have to give up anything for him, they'll probably finish in the top 10 and be in great shape to get him.
Again with the "raw" shit. Such a precise and defined metric. Geezuz. The guys played every game freshman, sophomore and junior year at the highest level in college football. No college QB is a polished refined finished product. He's no more raw than any other QB to come out of college save Manning and Luck. _
Folks. I think we might be overthinking this a bit much. The Jets desperately need a QB, above everything else. Any responsible, knowleageble ( cough) organization should never, ever pass up on the opportunity to draft a great talent like Marriota. We can talk fundamentals and the experts on this board can shed some light on the specifics pluses and minuses of Marriota but to me, totally void of first hand knowledge of what makes a great QB, I offer the following: Marriota is incredible smart, football savvy and can read defenses in seconds. Given a small amount of time he can find the open receiver and deliver the ball with accuracy. As a plus he is a real stud that can keep defenses on their heals. I'll take smarts and ability to read offenses over imperfect footwork any day. The common denominator for all great QBs IMHO is natural football smarts. Passing up on a potential mega NFL QB for another position because he has some short falls would be beyond irresponsible, particularly for a team that has not seen that position excell since before most of the posters on this board were born.
What is this shit? Rationality has NO place on this board. We need a WR or a OT or a RB or a pass rusher or a TE or another fucking CB before we need our 15 year franchise QB. Go take your intelligence and rational ideas elsewhere, they are not wanted here. _
i guess "raw" is a broad term when I start to think about it... Make no mistake, if the duck's there? we should take the duck. not a tackle much as I want one, no, the duck, Mariota. I'm just not sold on the idea of moving up to get him, he's very good but not SUCH a surefire thing I'm willing to give up everything like washington did. this team needs as much youth and talent as it can muster, and I get the feeling what it would take to secure MM would effectively screw us and maybe hinder MM's development.
Raw is a bullshit term used to ding a player if you don't have a specific criticism. It is undefined, amorphous, unmeasurable. It's a red herring throw away critique. And in Mariotas instance its complete bullshit because he's one of the most polished QBs you'll ever find in the system he runs. I find if funny that you can't move up to get your franchise QB. If we're at 3 and we're worried that someone at 9 or 10 is going to move down to 1 or 2 to get him, it'd be massively stupid not to move up a spot or 2 to grab him. What, you're concerned we're going to miss out on that massively talented CB in round 2 or safety in round 3. It's not going to take much to trade up with Oakland or Jax, they have QBs and they don't want to be down outside of the top 5. _
Omg, Mariotta overthrew a guy wide open alone in the endzone--that's it, gimme the king crab rapist!!! ….. who also badly missed several reads back on Thursday. Many games to go, much more to see from both.,,
