I don't see how it can be overblown though. 1-7 is 1-7. I think the Jets were badly assembled. Everyone said the skill position talent coming out of the 2013 season was atrocious. Idzik's attempt to fix that was to just sign Eric Decker. I like Decker, but that's it? This team needed a complete overhaul at that position and instead he signed one guy and basically brought all the rest of the guy who couldn't cut it last year back again. And when a guy like Decker hurts his hammy, a frequent thing in the NFL, the Jets were left with the same crappy group of receivers that couldn't get it done last year. I mean, as bad as I think Geno is, how the hell do you properly evaluate a guy when he has nobody to throw to? Harvin was acquired as much for that reason as any other. I can't stress enough how deep a receiver draft this past one was. So much talent at that position and Idzik let them all go. When you start drafting guys in the 4th round and later you never know what your going to get with them. So far none of his receivers picked have worked out. He had a whole off season to upgrade and he came away with just Decker.

I think he was unlucky at the CB position this off season. I didn't want Talib or DRC at the price they signed for and I knew Revis was more of a dream than anything. But like I said, why not bring back Cromartie? That just made sense. If he signed Cromartie, and Patterson, along with drafting McDougle I would have been fine with how he addressed that position. But he didn't. He banked on a guy whose always hurt and then that guy let him down by ditching this team. He has to take a hit for that.

Like I said, he hasn't missed big in FA. I'll give him that. He's signed guys to smaller contracts and a lot of them have not worked out. These guys aren't setting this team back or anything. But they've still been bad signings. And they're a bit of an indictment on the current talent evaluating talent, which includes Idzik. And to be fair, these are the same guys who we are most likely going to select this teams next possible attempt at a franchise QB. That's a huge decision that's going to be made by these guys.

No problem with the Milliner pick at all, McDougle however wouldn't have been as big of a need if he just signed another decent stop gap FA. The Jets needed skill position talent in the worst way going into this year. Instead they went defense in 2 of the first 3 rounds because Idzik left them thin in the secondary. In todays NFL you have to be able to push the ball downfield. The league is setup now, more than ever to do that with the rules. It's an offensive league. When I look at the Jets skill players I sometimes feel that the Jets just don't understand that.

Idzik's drafts are still to early to judge. I like Milliner, I think he can, and will at least be a solid starter in this league. But right now the early returns dont look good. Winters was a "starter" for the Jets. Doesn't mean he was any good though when he pre injury.

The guys he's drafted so far that you can say look good are Richardson, Amaro, and Pryor. 3 picks unless i'm missing someone. I agree with you that late round draft picks are crapshoot picks but thats what makes FA all the more important. And thats an area where so far, he has missed more then he has hit.

Like i've said, I believe Idzik does have a plan with the rollover money. Guys like Brees to the Saints and Peyton to the Broncos are great examples. You never know who gets cut and who becomes available. But 1-7 in year 2 is still 1-7 and it's not acceptable. This isn't a team thats coming off big success and has hit a low period while they rebuild. So I don't think its the end of the world to question the future of this team right now.

Everything you said is pretty much spot on except for one thing. Pryor looks pretty bad so far. The guy hasnt made a single impact play all year and has given up quite a few TDs on just awful angles and he has been a huge liablity in coverage (something we expected from the start). Still too early make a final judgment on him but he has shown very little and we should definitely expect a least something from your #1 pick.

Can anyone out there honestly say that they were happy that Idzik did not address the CB position ? I mean even if you hated all the FA out there or hated The thought of Cro coming back and liked the idea of Milliner or the pick of Mcdougle or maybe somehow you even liked the thought of Patterson holding down the fort or maybe by some act of god you thought " Idzik knows what he is doing and that Rex can scheme and coach the secondary up " ! After all that you saw that we had injuries to guys that some people actually had faith in and Patterson went AWOL and we still have another guy down in Walls can anyone argue with the results ? I mean look what we are putting out there in our secondary this Sunday ! Whether you liked or did not like what went on move wise by our GM the bottom line is Idzik gets paid to make the moves and Get It Right ! We as fans can say We had these all wrong but the GM GETS PAID to GET IT RIGHT and address needs and he and the coach are supposed to put his players and team in the best position to succeed ! THE IDZIK got all this wrong and did not even attempt to get it correct until it was way too late ! I would have burned up the trade lines and even bought in any warm body that could help or had a pulse well before it became a necessity which by the way was over 6 weeks ago,,,,rant over !

I couldn't understand the canonization of Milliner, honestly.
The guy played well for a 3 game stretch at the end of the season and all of a sudden he was a shut down corner.
    This organization is on crack.

is this because he is bad or playing out of position . he is an in the box safety and rated highly if the corner position was decent I think we would see more of him

this is what the idzik supporters do not get. That he had chances to addresss issues cheaper then he has. Never mind he wasted draft picks. Not that he did not hit and these guys are not starts, wasted as in 7 out of 12 picks have been cut from this past draft. That is how bad he is

You realize this is an fan base who saw Geno play mediocre for 4 games at the end of last season and because he was merely mediocre rather than dreadful they thought he'd turned the corner?

He threw for under 200 yards a game and managed not to turn it over twice each game for those 4 games but because he was behind only Peyton Freaking Manning in QB rating, holy shit he's the MAN.

I think Pryor has looked vulnerable in coverage but pretty solid against the run. He's been up and down.

Except that he didn't just sign Decker. He also used a 2nd round pick on a TE who now looks to be a really special player, and 3 other picks on WRs. Again, the problem here isn't that Idzik didn't address the receiving corp, it's that he didn't bring in 3-4 studs in one offseason, which is a ridiculous expectation, since he has to address other positions as well, and it's not like he can just pick the players he wants, like in the Madden video game. Everybody is whining about him not getting this player or that player, but few people seem to realize that Idzik is competing with 31 other teams for the same players and draft picks. What if Emmanuel Sanders or whoever else wanted to play with Peyton instead of Geno? What if someone else wanted to play somewhere else? You guys do realize Idzik is not all-powerful, right? He did good in signing the best available WR in free agency, and drafting a really good TE, and wanting more than that in one offseason might be a bit unreasonable. Then you also have to consider other factors, like the fact that Stephen Hill was a high draft pick in only his third year this offseason, so it made sense to give him another chance, or that players aren't drafted in a vacuum. Idzik can't just say, oh there are a lot of receivers available this year, let me just grab a bunch, for every pick, he is looking at who is available in all positions, and for the 1/2nd round espeically, they are trying to land BPAs. Without the benefit of hindsight, Pryor and Amaro probably just looked much better to them than any WRs available by that point.

Cromartie is also a hindsight thing. He has played well this year for Arizona, but he was the worst CB in the league last year, with the injury, but also on the wrong side of 30. If they resigned him, he could've easily been just as bad this year, getting older and everything. Obviously there is no exact science that tells you when exactly a player is going to go downhill due to age/past injuries, but letting him go was not a terrible decision. More importantly, Cromartie doesn't figure in our future due to his age, so if we don't have him for this year or the next, which are rebuilding years, it's not a big deal in terms of building a championship contender. It hurts the fans in terms of more competitive games this year, but it helps the franchise in terms of getting better draft picks, so... Another issue is that their plan was to let Miliner and McDougle become starters over the course of the season, and Cromartie, given what we know about his attitude problems, might have chaffed at giving up playing time to a youngster.

Richardson and Amaro are impact players. Pryor will probably be a solid starter at SS in the future. Aboushi and Dozier might become starting OGs long-term, too early to tell. Bohannon can be the starting FB. So even if no one else develops into starters/impact players from those 2 drafts, you got 2 impacts players and possibly 3-4 starters in 2 years. That is not worse than the league average.

Of course you are allowed to question the future of the team. You can disagree with what Idzik is doing, think he is an idiot, etc. But you can't bring in a guy to rebuild an NFL franchise, and then can him after 1-2 years, unless he really does something unthinkable. That's just ridiculous.

Jets fans are actually making a concerned effort to protest the team's totally inept manegment. And some of you are supporting the current regime? You turncoats are the bigger pussies than the English national football team.

He drafted Amaro and drafted a bunch of guys in the later rounds who as we've discussed can be hit or miss type players in those slots. If this was a weak class of receivers I could understand, but it was a strong class. This was the draft to acquire a good young receiver and Idzik passed. Nobody is expecting him to go out and get a bunch of studs in one off season but a guy like Decker plus a pretty good prospect would have been nice. Instead we got Decker, a guy he agreed he screwed up on by cutting him, a guy on IR, and a guy on the PS. Bad job. They might have thought Pryor was BPA in the first. Time will tell if he's right.

When you take into account what Cromartie signed for why not bring him back? I actually liked the Patterson move and defended it but Idzik was banking on Patterson staying healthy, Milliner playing like he finished, and a 3rd rounder who missed basically his whole senior season due to injury. That's risky. Cromartie would have helped solidify that group going into TC. I think everyone knows Cromartie was playing hurt last year which was a big reason he was so poor but this was a guy who knew Rex's system better then any other CB not named Revis they could have had. And its not like the guy signed a long deal. The Cards gave him a 1 year deal, and yeah he doesn't figure into our future but neither did Patterson. You can bring in stop gap players to help develop younger guys. Giving Rex what he gave him wasn't right. And banking on a 3rd round pick to become a starter over the course of a season is risky to begin with anyway if your legitimately trying to compete. If Cromartie becomes a problem you could have easily cut him....like they ended up having to do with the guy they chose over him....

It's to early to tell with basically all of those guys besides Richardson. Amaro looks good but he's not an impact player yet. Dozier has never seen the field, Aboushi has been decent, and Bohannon didn't play well at all according to advanced metrics when he was healthy.

You can get rid of anybody you want at anytime. I'm not saying to just get rid of him because this is his finished product. I believe he has a plan. But sending him packing with Rex and starting totally over from a regime standpoint if the Jets win, lets say 2-4 games this season isn't the end of the world either.

I don't understand how anyone can defend idzick?
he was grossly incompetent when assembling this team. He wasted drafted draft picks he might has well flushed them away. it not that he did not find impact players it is not like found players or part time players. he drafted crap and cut 7 players already. that speaks to gm whose approach was lets draft 4 receivers an hope one catches on. And we can roll ou retreads cut from other teams.
I am not blaming him for injuries but I blame him for not properly planning for injuries. Patterson was not a plan even if he stayed with the team Idzik defenders. He played in 8 games the last 2 years.
Either he is a complete fool or he did this on purpose. 21 millions dollars he could have grabbed another 2nd tier wide receiver and maybe drafted better I might have been happy. go into the season with 15 million but get a young qb some help besides a tight end and receiver. Or drafted linemen but he sucks at the draft, and he was cheap and we as fans are paying for it.
Where I did not donate but people have the right to do what ever they want to insult them and call them morons come on... I actually applaud them because the see the fake hustle for what it is a snow job and how people still back the gm is beyond me

By the time we were drafting, who were these non-hit-and-miss WRs Idzik could have gotten? Watkins was gone and he was the only true stud WR in the draft going in, Beckham whom the Jets supposedly liked was gone, everybody else had some kind of questions, injuries with Lee, speed with Benjamin, etc. Of the others, some are doing well right now and others are not, so Idzik could ve been just as hit-and-miss with them as with the ones we drafted. More importanly, as I already pointed out, when you are building a team, you don't focus in one position (unless it's the QB), you have to see who is on the board, and if there are players who you feel are really special, you take those in the early rounds. The fact that it was a deep WR draft is actually arguing for Idzik's position and against yours, because the deep draft makes it more logical for you to draft those guys in later round as Idzik has done, and try to get more deficit positions early on. If Pryor has looked as good as everybody including ESPN, analysts, etc expected him to, nobody would be whining about us picking him in the 1st round and not a WR, much like nobody in their right mind would complain about the Amaro pick in the 2nd.

I already told you why they didn't bring him back. Maybe you disagree with my points and that's fine, but ultimately it wasn't an important move for this franchise. When you are rebuilding, a 30+ year old corner is not important. Their plan was to go with youth, and some stop-gap veterans to help bring that youth along. Having a guy like Cromartie would only cause problems in that situation. Also, I think Cromartie is a bit overrated, because when he was with us, sometimes he got a lot of praise, but actually watching the games, I often saw him getting abused by WRs. Sure, he was better than Walls/Allen (except last year when he was worse), but let's not act like him being here would fix all our problems this year.

Well, if you guys are going to judge his drafts this early, I see no reason not to make some early judgements. Amaro is on an impact pace certainly, considering he's not even starting in a terrible offense with terrible QBs that don't throw him the ball, and he's already on a better pace than Hall of Fame TEs. As far as the other guys, I didn't say they were great, just starters, which in itself is important, when you look at how many draftees for any team end up not cracking that.

It would be terrible for two reasons. One, it would deprive Idzik of actually finishing carrying out his plan, which might lead us to a really nice place. Not saying I know for certain he will succeed, no one knows that, but unless you let something take its course, you'll never get anywhere. And two, if we do that, no decent GM is ever going to come here, because unlike impatient fans, they know these things take time.

look guys.. this is the wonderful thing about free speech. We had an opinion and we voiced it. It gained traction because THOUSANDS of Jets fans feel the exact same way. We did nothing but provide a platform in which they could voice their displeasure with us and we are close to our goal. If you disagree with us and think we are nothing but a vocal minority - i beg of just ONE of you to purchase supportjohnidzik-com and build a website. Rally your troops and support the guy. He is getting CRUSHED in the media right now. If you really do support him, now is the time to do something about it besides posting what idiots we are on a message board.

We are no different than you. People with an opinion. The only difference is that we are doing something about it.
