This sh#t is really picking up steam. With all the publicity he will reach the goal before the 2 month period.
We grew up watching the Jets together. We wanted to be excited again about something. We had to do something. Help us reach this first goal by tomorrow! This is New York and we are Jets fans.
Stuff like this billboard is one of the major reasons Jets' fans have such a bad reputation. There are tons of teams in the league who make terrible decisions year after year and yet I don't see their fans whining and bitching nearly as much as ours. So we've had one really bad season, mostly because of injuries, tough schedule, and getting sodomized by the refs. Yeah we've missed the playoffs a few years, but the team is trying to turn it around, and changed their approach from the wrong one (all in short term) to the right one (long term) only a year and a half ago. Give them a fucking chance... How do you undermine the last 8-10 years in the NFL, a league where literally every year a bunch of teams go from playoffs to the bottom of the barrel and vice versa? Just look at us, we went from playoffs with Herm to shitty team with Herm to mediocre with Mangini to AFC title games with Rex to shitty teams with Rex. It's a very up-and-down league with a few exceptions. And the team's record has little to do with where anyone goes. Parcells came to us after we were the worst team in the league 2 years in a row. Decker left Peyton Manning and a bonafide championship contender to come to us. Golden Tate left a Superbowl winner to go the Lions, who haven't been to the playoffs in forever. There is all this irrational hatred for Woody when no one can show how he has been worse than an average NFL owner during his tenure.
I haven't really thought much about the billboard, don't really care all that much. And your definitely right about Woody, the hate for him is not warranted. But why should it be ok to make terrible decisions as an organization? Because other teams do isnt a valid answer. It is an up and down league but there are plenty of teams who more often then not have winning seasons because they have a solid foundation. The Jets dont have a solid foundation, and its been a downward trend the last 4 seasons because of it. Jets fans shouldnt be forced to sit back and accept mediocrity. We're long overdue for a Super Bowl, we're long overdue for a franchise QB. I want guys in place who put us in the best situation to acquire both.
I am surprised you guys aren't thinking of more constructive ways to establishment. Start an official poll to fire Izik, organize a picketing at Cortland on facebook, make a list of media contacts and send them to fans. Jeez. I've seen better protests in Seattle.
We aren't fans of those lesser teams. Some people may settle for mediocrity and not complain about it but we have every right to state our demands for a better performance.
We have reached $6175. Keep the support coming. We can put the billboard up now. The names of our supporters will be listed on the billboard. We spoke to Joe Bonigno and Evan today and Joe endorsed us.
Congrats. You've found people dumber than yourselves. It's bad enough you losers think this is worth the effort... what about the idiots that have actually donated?! For their family's sake, I would leave the names off the billboard. I don't know anyone that would want to be associated with that.
I for one love the front page of all the Idzik failures ,its perfect. The only problem I have is I've been saying this since day one and no one would listen.Where are all the "Idzik Has a Plan" guys its amazing how fast they jumped off the sinking ship
Yeah, and I can guarantee you that no matter what Idzik said at that press conference he would be by attacked by some of our fans and the sorry excuse that passes for the local sports media. What can you say at 1-7 that sounds good? Did you want him to throw everybody under the bus? I'm glad he didn't, that's not how decent people behave. The truth is, the reason they are 1-7 is part bad luck (combination of tough early schedule, injuries, bad refs), part things still being early in the massive rebuild, and part Geno not working out at QB. These things are not anybody's fault, not Idzik's, not Woody's, not Rex's, not Geno's, it's just life. You need time to get stuff done, and one and a half years for a GM is not nearly enough time. But there is this ridiculous culture of needing to find somebody to blame every time, whether or not the blame is actually warranted. If Idzik mentioned any of this at the PC, he would just be accused of using excuses, so he didn't. Because nobody can name any terrible decisions that Idzik has made. Everything he is accused of is basically people looking back in perfect 20/20 hindsight and blaming him for good moves at the time that just didn't turn out well (Geno, Milliner, McDougle, Patterson, Pryor), or moves that were made for the long-term benefit of the team (Revis, Cromartie, letting Geno start over Vick). Yet no one is focusing on the brilliant moves he has made (in a very short amount of time) such as drafting the best player in the 2013 draft, getting us a great pick in Amaro this year, stealing Harvin for a 6th rounder, getting one of the best young RBs in the league for a 4th rounder. The other nonsense is constantly blaming Idzik for the past failures of the team. What does us being long overdue for a Superbowl or not having a solid foundation in the past have to do with Idzik who has only been here for 1.5 years? Give him a fair amount of time for a GM, and then judge him based on his results at that point.
I'm taking up a collection to put a billboard right outside Met Life Stadium where we tack up all the idiots who thought Geno Smith was a good idea. You can all wave to the 6 Jets fans who show up to the games in December.
I'm not an Idzik hater, I'm not saying he should definitely be shown the door, I don't blame him for anything that happened not on his watch, i'm just speaking in general and right now to not question the direction of this team at 1-7 in year 2 is a little silly IMO. I do think he has a plan but he screwed up this season. I don't think that can be argued. Chris Johnson is a bust FA signing, Dmitri Patterson was a bust FA signing, Mike Goodson didn't work out, Colon stinks, Milliner has not worked out so far, Geno has not worked out, he drafted a guy in McDougle who missed his senior year due to an injury and then promptly tore his ACL. Granted all these things like you said can't be foreseen but the GM has to take blame for some of it, otherwise, whats does he get judged on? He has to take some blame for those misses. The one thing i'll give him is that he hasn't missed BIG on anyone yet (maybe Milliner, we'll see, I still think he can be a player). But he's had a bunch of smaller signings that have just not worked out in FA and his drafts have left a lot to be desired so far. Those things can't really be argued. He's taken the safe road so far but it hasn't produced a ton of results. The Jets are 1-7 as a direct result of the organization not acquiring enough talent to be competitive. They should have at the least brought Cromartie back at a reduced rate, he knew the system and was hurt last year. That would have been a simple move to make and he chose Patterson instead. Patterson failed, didnt even make it to the season and the secondary is a joke. Bad job by Idzik in that department. He drafted Geno and that pick looks terrible right now. I didnt mind the pick when it was made because I liked the value but it still hasn't worked out. He's the GM, that's on him. Whether people say Geno stinks or Geno doesn't have enough weapons around him doesn't even matter in regards to Idzik, it's his job to supply his QB with skill talent. That's on him. I give him all the credit in the world for trading for Ivory and drafting Richardson. But what about the other picks in that draft? And I actually think Pryor has been decent, I like Amaro, but after those 2 what else do we have with 2014 draft class? This past draft was such a great opportunity for a team like the New York Jets to improve on their poor skill position talent. It was such a deep receiver class. But Idzik chose to wait till the 4th round when the pickings weren't nearly as good and then eventually cut the first receiver he drafted. And he got Harvin for a 6th cause the Seahawks were done with him for personal reasons. I like the move dont get me wrong but lets not act like this was some brilliant plan by Idzik. Harvin fell into his lap and Idzik knew he had to make the deal because of how poorly this team was setup at the skill positions which he could have addressed early on in the recent draft instead of drafting two more guys for the secondary in 2 out of the first 3 rounds.
This Jared Koeppel poster is not associated with us in any way.. Please ignore him. It is a fake handle. They are popping up everywhere
The 1-7 thing is really overblown. It is a great example of why you can't just look at statistics without also looking closely at the situation. A lot of times, teams with that kind of record are badly assembled, completely talentless, badly coached, or the coach loses the players. None of those are the case with us this year. What's the case here is that we just happen to be really weak at 2 positions, only 2 out of however many there are on the team, but as it happens, those 2, as Rex likes to say, are the ones that lose you games the fastest, being the QB and the CB. Do you really doubt that if we had an average NFL QB and average NFL CBs this year, we would have a much better record? And yes, now everyone will blame Idzik for not getting us average CBs like DRC or letting an average QB like Vick start earlier, but that's when you keep in mind that he is rebuilding for the future, not this season. I disagree that any of those was a screw up. Guys like CJ/Goodson/Patterson/Colon were brought in on very budget short term contracts, in low risk, high reward type deals. If you as a GM give a player a huge contract with lots of guaranteed money, and that player sucks, that's a screw up. If you sign a bunch of guys you are not sure in to short contracts for little money, you are not screwing anything up. If they work out, great, if not, you don't lose much. None of these guys were meant to be long term solutions for us, just stop gaps while Idzik is looking for better talent. Look at it in terms of rebuilding over several years, not some unrealistic scenario where Idzik somehow pulls 22 great players out of his ass in his first 1-2 years here. Milliner and McDougle were decent picks. You can criticize them now in hindsight, but they were good picks at the time. There are tons of players who had some injuries in college and went on to have successful pro careers. That stuff happens, look at Belichick with Easely 1st round this year (2 knee surgeries) and Ras-I Dowling in 2nd round. Same thing with Geno. Idzik had to make that pick. When a potential first round QB (projected by some to be #1 overall before the draft) falls to you in the 2nd round, and you got Sanchez, you make that pick. Just cause it didn't work out, doesn't make it a bad pick. There is a website called pro football reference that keeps track of all NFL teams' draft history. Go check out some teams. There is this misconception by NFL fans that every other team except their own routinely lands a ton of players in every draft. In fact, if Idzik has drafted one impact player per draft, and then 2 starters per draft (which right now looks very possible), this is by no means terrible compared to everybody else. Sure, sometimes teams hit the jackpot in that crapshoot and draft several impact players, but that is fairly rare. And the whole "we had 12 picks in 2014" thing isn't fair either, because all the extra picks were 4rd round and below, which is especially crapshooty. 2 times 0.0013 is still a very small number. Also, the reason we were able to trade for Harvin, is because we had that cap money. If we had Tanenbaum, and he spent it all on guys like Holmes/Harris/Sanchez etc, we cant make that move. This goes beyond Harvin, because sometimes you can make moves for even more important players, maybe an elite QB that is cut lose (like Brees back in the day) or an elite pass rusher, or whatever else. As long as you are cap flexible, which is what Idzik has been doing, you got that freedom.
