So basically your plan for "sustainable success" is getting a 2 year stop gap and a excellent WR so the Jets can relevant in fantasy football beyond defense.

    So Mariota CAN'T do it.

Got it. Lets get an inferior college QB that runs a pro style offense and we're set.

    Sounds like a solid plan.

Yes, Key one of my favorite Jets BTW. Remind me, how many SuperBowls did we win with Key again?

Mariota hasn't done something in college therefore he CAN'T do it in the pros.

Stop obsessing about a franchise QB.

Austin Davis to Cooper and we are SB bound.

This…or a vet that hasn't been able to stay healthy.

Eventually the Jets need to get a franchise QB, and they should draft a QB every year - that doesn't mean you have to draft 1 in the first round. Besides Mariota and Winston - do you know any of the QBs that have decent to high stocks that may declare this year? I do. The offensive line is going down the drain, we don't have any game-changers on offense. We need to get some pieces around here so when we do draft that QB - the transition will be easier, the QB won't have to struggle as badly.

Jstokes thinks when you draft the QB, everything is resolved - that is the dumbest idea I have ever heard.

The bold is completely fair but the references to other Oregon QBs, snaps under center…etc. are completely bogus.

I guess this is the difference with age and wisdom.

I LOVED that pick of Key--also one of my favorite Jets. Was ecstatic.

As I get older I realize the flashy WR is 1000x less important than the guy throwing the ball.

Some folks would prefer Sam Bradford to lead us for the next 10 years. While he's throwing to Amari Cooper.

    Good luck with that.

Key was part of the best Jets team we've seen since the SB team (1998)

Never said that and you know that.

It's chicken and the egg. I want the QB FIRST--the foundation of the franchise, sit him and build the team around him.

You want the shingles and the fixtures and the wall coverings first and then POOF that franchise QB--the foundation-- falls in your lap.

    Good plan. But it's backwards.

Yeah that's what you said. You said it yourself, you would give up an RG3 like package to move up. 2 first round picks? A bunch of other picks? You are sacrificing the future for 1 player.

Nope. Bradford immediately makes us an 8-8 team for the next 2-3 years passing up on the absolute BEST QBs coming out in the future.

Bradford's fine if we take Mariota.

Bradfords NOT fine if we're looking 2-3 years down the road to grab our guy. And I don't see anyone on the horizon nearly as good as Mariota.

    For the MOST IMPORTANT PLAYER.

Oh, and if we're drafting 3rd, we're not giving up what Washington did.

If you feel a QB is a franchise type guy you take him with your first pick 100 out of 100 times as there is no guarantee he will be there when you pick again. You don't play draft roulette with a position that important especially when you are a QB needy team. When a QB drafted in the later rounds becomes a franchise QB down the line, that means no one thought strongly enough he would be a franchise guy when he came out to draft him with their first pick.

Key was also part of some of the worst Jets teams when we had no one to "Throw [Him] the Damn Ball". Note that team with an elite WR and vet QB did not have "sustainable success".

I really don't understand why more folks don't get this.

As the most important position in all of sports--you HAVE to insure you get that guy--whatever it takes. No gambling that maybe he'll be there when we pick or maybe next year or in 2016 a guy will fall to us.

You have to do it now.

Now, if you don't like Mariota or think he's the guy--that's fine.

    But the philosophy is paramount.

Well again, I don't feel the same way about Mariota as you do. The Colts tanked to get Andrew Luck. The Jets we have no idea what will happen down the road. Peat, Cooper sure pro prospects that will make our team better.

We didn't do nearly enough as A TEAM to sustain success. Vinny went down in 99 also.

I honestly think we draft him. Even if that means we move from wherever we are to the one or two spot. We will likely be in the top 5, but I can see us trading up to one or two and taking him. Can't risk losing it.

Mariota is one of the best prospects for QB coming out of college in a long time. He's not on Andrew Lucks level, but he is a very very highly rated guy coming out. We can't miss this opportunity. We want an answer at QB, Mariota could very well be it.

I see Hackenberg and Cook as absolutely the better PRO PROSPECTS. Plenty of transferable skill-sets (Arm, Accuracy, pocket presence, able to read NFL defenses, run pro offenses, ability to play in ANY weather conditions).

Now if you listened to me the first 100 times, I said I would draft Mariota ONLY if I can sit him down for a season. Therefore you must get a veteran to take the lumps in the mean-time.

You really do read only the things you want to read. I guess you have a selective reading issue.
