This is what he really meant: Amari Cooper Amari Cooper Amari Cooper sloppy footwork Amari Cooper Amari Cooper Amari Cooper. _
WW, would you take Cooper at 3 and pass on elite OL/DL prospect when you know at 35 you can get a really good WR prospect?
Problem....Your boy isn't going to be a Franchise QB. Failure rate of High pick QBs is at least 2 of 3, if not more.
Here's the thing about QB. While the bust rate is high you most likely always get your cornerstone QB in the first. I'm not sold on either prospect as franchise guys, however.
I would gladly take that OT from Stanford in the top 5 then go get Kevin White (WVU) if he's there in the early 2nd. I think a lot of these receivers will be gone by the time the 2nd round comes up.
I'm not being an asshole. At least not this time. If you don't like what I'm saying ban me. All I hear out of you and 101 is what I heard out of BWay last year about every QB coming out. I get it, you love Cooper. So do I. But I'm not going to disparage him at every turn because I want Mariota. That is literally all I hear you saying. That is my honest opinion. If you don't want to hear me point that out when you disparage Mariota, then ban me or ignore me. _
I would bring in Shaw as HC, draft Peat and if Harbaugh leaves/gets fired by SF I'd bring him in as some type of coach as well.
A lot of football to be played and a lot to happen before free agency and draft time, but here's my too-early, bye-week edition of a mock offseason RESIGN NT Damon Harrison (4yr/22M) ILB David Harris (3yr/16M) RB Bilal Powell (3yr/6M) DL Leger Douzable (2yr/2.5M) S Jaiquawn Jarrett (2yr/2.5M) LS Tannder Purdum (3yr/2.8M) CB Phillip Adams (1yr/800K) LB Nick Bellore (1yr/800K) WR Greg Salas (1yr/550K) QB Matt Simms (1yr/550K) DO NOT RESIGN OG Willie Colon, QB Mike Vick, CB Kyle Wilson, S Dawan Landry, NT Kenrick Ellis, OT Ben Ijalana, FB John Connor, CB Josh Thomas RELEASE RB Chris Johnson LB Antwan Barnes RESTRUCTURE WR Percy Harvin (to reduce overall cap hit and raise guaranteed money in 15’) EXTENSION DL Muhammad Wilkerson (5yr/50M) FREE AGENCY SIGNEES CB Chris Harris – Denver (5yr/48M) OG Mike Iupati – San Francisco (5yr/42M) QB Brian Hoyer – Cleveland (3yr/22M) CB Zack Bowman – NY Giants (1yr/950K) RB Chris Ogbonnaya – Carolina (1yr/800K) DRAFT 1. Graham / Shaq Evans TE: Jace Amaro / Jeff Cumberland / Zach Sudfeld / Chris Pantale LT: D’Brickashaw Ferguson / T.J. Clemmings (R) LG: Oday Aboushi / Brian Winters / Dalton Freeman C: Nick Mangold / Dalton Freeman RG: Mike Iupati (N) RT: Breno Giacommini Comments: Here they decide to spend a little more and get a more promising QB rather than resigning Vick. Under this arrangement, their rookie QB Grayson will – by design – have virtually no chance of playing in 2015 and perhaps not even the one after; he’ll learn, practice and develop before getting to start. CJ has been just okay in 2014, so the team invests in the versatile, improving-by-the-season Powell and brings in some depth via draft and free agency. They keep the same wideouts, but do bring in another young guy in the mid rounds. If Aboushi continues at this rate, he’ll be a starter going forward. Iupati comes with a big price, but he’s a major upgrade and if the team wants to improve in 2015, they’ll need a couple signings like this after missing in the draft in recent years (i.e. Brian Winters / Will Campbell). Another option is to draft a guard at the top of the 2nd and spend in free agency in another area. Clemmings will have a chance to start at RT immediately, but won’t be put in a position where he needs to. If Brick continues to slide, he’s the heir apparent. DE: Muhammad Wilkerson / Leger Douzable NT: Damon Harrison / T.J. Barnes DE: Sheldon Richardson OLB: Quinton Coples / Jason Babin / Trevor Reilly ILB: David Harris / Stephone Anthony (R) ILB: Demario Davis / Nick Bellore OLB: Randy Gregory (N) / Calvin Pace / IK Enempkali CB: Chris Harris (N) / Zack Bowman (N) / Dexter McDougle / Phillip Adams CB: Dee Milliner / Marcus Williams / Darrin Walls FS: Jaiquawn Jarrett / Calvin Pryor SS: Antonio Allen / Calvin Pryor / Rontez Miles K: Nick Folk P: Ryan Quigley LS: Tanner Purdum Comments: The line is kept intact as Douzable, who has been a terrific rotational player, is resigned. Ellis may deservedly seek the opportunity to help out a NT-needy team, but T.J. Barnes should be ready to see more time. The team finally gets a big-time impact pass-rusher, who, like every other rookie, won’t be pressured to start immediately if he’s not ready, but rather begin at the best pace possible and earn his way onto the field. The team could certainly get by with Coples/Pace/Babin/Reilly, but adding Gregory adds another dimension to the defense and could make this among the league’s best pass-rushes. Harris is brought back to team with the ever-improving young leader Demario Davis, but perhaps his heir apparent is brought in. In addition to the positive impact the improved pass-rush on the secondary, they get one of the league’s top CBs in Chris Harris after whiffing badly in 2014. The team will also hope for a healthy Milliner to pair with him and McDougle to compete for time as well. The team signs the veteran Bowman for depth, but depending on the play of very promising UDFA Marcus Williams and Phillip Adams, it may not be necessary. Walls returns as a reserve to round out a very solid group if the injury bug isn’t brutal this year. If Jaiquawn Jarrett plays half as well as he did against Pittsburgh going forward, the Jets have found their FS and perhaps the only true one on the roster. Pryor will need to improve all aspects of his game and be put in better position to play to his strengths. Allen will return to his true position and should at least be a contributor in a rotation. Miles gets a shot again to make this team as Landry is no longer needed.
JetFanPA: Good post. As for CB Bowman (Giants): did you see Bowman getting his butt chewed out on two separate occassions by Coughlin when he came off the field last Sunday? On more than one occassion Bowman (#31) wimped out on a tackle - one time at the goal line. There was even one former player/analyst who mockingly referred to it as Bowman "making a business decision." : )
Nope I missed all of that haha. That signing doesn't need to be Bowman specifically as it's more of a depth pickup that may or may not be needed depending on how Williams, Adams and Walls play. There are other guys out there who can fill a similar role
Updated Mock 1. Randy Gregory - - fills a need we have been seeking for years. The top of the draft is muddled right now, so he could be there for us. 2. Devin Funchess - - hybrid TE/WR, I think teams will want him to play TE but I think he'll stay a WR in the NFL. Great route runner, big guy. Agile for his size. 3. Tyler Sambrailo - - very athletic, strong linemen. Has versatility to play OT/G. 4. Senquez Golson - - a smaller corner, but he is very physical and a ballhawk. He has the potential to be a day 2 prospect but I think with his size he will fall a bit, great player.
1 mariota/winston 2 eric kendricks/eric striker 3.abdullah/tevin coleman 4 tyrus thompson/corey robinson sign justin houston, iupati, byron maxwell, cobb/crabtree if harvin let go
He's like a more fluid / faster Marques Colston. That's crazy IMO (in a good way). Hopefully his stock stays in the beginning of the 2nd round. Randy Gregory - pray Bo Pelini doesn't convince him to return to school. I think he leaves regardless.
I have a feeling Funchess will sky rocket come draft time, but if he falls into the second I like our chances.
1: Marcus Mariota 2: Jaelen Strong 3: Melvin Gordon with low picks spent on OL and vet OG through FA. Funchess? You'd better pray Stephen was still playing for the Jets. Funchess is a drop machine.
Wishful thinking... Rd1 - Randy Gregory, OLB, Nebraska Rd2 - Dorial Greene-Beckham, WR, Oklahoma - May not come out unless he gets a first round grade, hard to do when you don't play a full season. He is super talented though. Rd3 - Marcus Peters, CB, Washington Rd4 - Daryl Williams, RT, Oklahoma
